If This Report Is True – Ashley’s Tactics To Sign Rafa Are Atrocious

The Sun is reporting today the Newcastle hierarchy are pressing Rafa Benitez to sign a new three-year contract and if he does he will get transfer funds of £100M.

From what we can tell from media reports this summer Mike Ashley has withheld funds from Rafa because he will not sign a new deal,.

If that is true they are just ridiculous tactics being used by the Newcastle owner.

He’s basically risking not strengthening the Newcastle team sufficiently so that Rafa will sign a new deal.

Basically holding Rafa hostage to scraping the barrel for players even though the club seems to have the money to buy some of the players Rafa wants.

And that’s what Rafa is doing – working within the constraints of having little to no money to spend, and that doesn’t augur well for Rafa staying on board.

He’s not taking Ashley’s bait.

And we must point out that this report could be inaccurate, but for this article, we assume it’s what’s happening – although we doubt it.

Rafa Benitez – smiling during training

And it’s £100M spread over the length of the contract, so that’s £33M each year which is chicken feed in today’s transfer market.

The Sun are reporting that “Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is thought to be undecided on accepting a new deal.”

This is not the way to business with a man with the integrity and professionalism of Rafa Benitez.

Instead, they should agree to what Rafa wants – which is not too much.

Rafa wants to be in charge of all transfers and he wants to be the one who decides who he can buy and sell and how he spends the transfer money

Does Ashley think he knows more about football and players than Rafa Benitez?

If this story is true then it’s not good news and not the way to go about trying to sign a world-class manager like Rafa Benitez for Newcastle.

What do you think?

It’s not only transfers that Rafa wants more influence over, it’s a small after of Ashley committing to long -term ambition to compete by investing in the Academy and training facilities.

If this is true Ashley is going to get so much burned when Rafa leaves mid-season and gets appointed at some other club leaving Ashley in another relegation battle…

…good riddance some would say (just a shame regardless of any outcome we the fans are always the sore losers)

Agreed, Ashley and his crew are not magicians – they are proven liars and have shown they cannot be trusted to honour their ‘promises’.

Heard on TalkSport (a Murdoch owned broadcaster) that Ashley’s offering Rafa a £100m ‘warchest’ if he signs a new contract. Ed’s shown that report to be in the Sun (another Murdoch owned medium) as well.

No mention of writing that into a new contract though!

This is yet more Bishop spin to show that Ashley’s misunderstood and Rafa’s demands are unreasonable.

Since 2007 (M.A takeover) NUFC club have spent £328m on transfers. Since 2015 (Jurgen Klopp takes charge at LFC) they have spent £382m. Both clubs have billionaire owners, fanatical fans & are vibrant cities. But the difference in ambition is staggering.

As you’re up and about early, have a good look in the mirror to make sure you’ve not left any of Jane’s gear on. We don’t want you to be seen wearing an earring or the like when you ho down to Spoons for breakfast!

“this standoff between the pair is threatening the success of the window, and probably has already damaged it.”

alleged standoff is based on a few remarks in Rafa’s interviews that are open to interpretation.

Are you for real.True colours shown without a doubt daft lass. Please answer where the money has gone and please answer the fact that the owners admitted openly deceiving the fans just as he has done with his tat trade market brand

Rafa won’t walk mid season. If anything, he’ll be sacked before the winter window opens if relegation looks likely. And just to show how ambitious he is and as if by magic, Ashley will find a lot of money to give to Rafa’s successor to spend to try to avoid yet another relegation

    Jesper,
I think that may have been lost in translation but it appears you’re saying good riddance to Rafa if he were to leave. In your previous post you’re also suggesting that Rafa should either put up, shut or leave rather than fight for the team that we deserve. Do you think that the next manager coming in will have a war of words with the hierarchy letting the fans know what is really going on OR do you think we might end up with a guy telling us how we can’t compete with Huddersfield and Brighton.

lesh #12, sadly I have a feeling you’ll be right, even though it’s the last thing I want.

Still hoping Ashley is siphoning the club dry to pay off his loan and then sell up for £250m, if he is, then I’ll be happier than if he gave Rafa £100m now and stayed on.

    But
    It’s how Ashley rolls

No dosh until the contract is signed
(and I bet the contract(s) have some
    really punitive clauses in it/them)

Would be more than happy to see Gayle and Mitro go for Rondon and another good quality striker.

The biggest issue for me is the no10 as we only have Perez who in my opinion can do a job but is best as a striker. We need at least 1 real quality central creative player through the door.

I am hoping that the limited spending is about a club sale rather than the fact this is the boards strategy however the hope is fading fast.

Can’t see us getting anywhere near mid table with the squad we have (including 1-2 more).

It’s more than just money for transfers. Rafa wants the training and youth facilities updated and wants the club to be as professional as possible. Ashley obviously isn’t interested in spending money on that. It’s so frustrating that we have a manager that sees the potential in the club but an owner who if anything is probably laughing at the fans as he sees this as an opportunity to get back at them. I just wish someone who loved the game would buy the club. Ashley is just a lying disgusting man that every time I see I feel physically sick, I really don’t ever think I’ve ever said I hate a man so much. Maybe in 20 years time, Ashley will be sat there in his massive house with all his money on his own with nobody that loves him. He will sit back and look what he’s achieved in life and who he has made happy and realise he just hasn’t. He’ll be a sad lonely old man who will probably think ‘when I had the chance, I could have made so many Toon fans happy.

Rafa is a man of honour and integrity. Me personally i would have walked last season. People will say he is staying for the money – i dont believe so as he has enough and could make more each year. He will see out his contract and walk.
Ashley has to be the worse owner ever in the premiership with his bargain basement buys and constant de stabilising of pre seasons and the club in general.
It is what it is, he has the club – free advertising and all and he will Not change. When you see clubs like the hammers, Fulham , Wolves Brighton out spending us – I feel he is doing this intentionally. We can only hope and pray he leaves us sooner than later.

It’s the worst it has ever been. In the past we have spent money in transfer windows. In Jan and in this window we have brought in no players.

Nico, I get that you’re angry at the owner (who isn’t) but your judgement might be a tad clouded. Ashley doesn’t care anything for the fans, he doesn’t hate them or want to spite them (us) he simply ignores us. And your view that no new players have appeared seems to ignore our goalkeeper, and the Korean, and Kenedy, who admittedly is only on loan, but he actually is here.

This is like buying a second hand car. You are not convinced about the price so the salesman runs his keys down the paintwork and says, ‘Buy it now or next I’ll kick one of the lights in’. This is like trying to do business with Trump. The pair are barefaced liars. 3rd relegation heading this way. The time to protest is now. Not when Rafa has gone.

Correct me if you know the facts but the story circulating is that Rafa s contract requires a big payout if either side ends it prematurely.
