Newcastle Linked With 26-Year-Old World Cup Center-Back

The Mail is reporting today that Newcastle hope to sell Chancel Mbemba to Porto for £5.5M this week and Rafa wants a new center-back brought in to replace him.

The deal to take Mbemba to Porto has dragged on far too long but hopefully, that can be completed this week.

But we will have lost around £3M on Mbemba after we paid £8M for him from Anderlecht three years ago.

The Mail are reporting two possible replacements for Mbemba – one is Swansea City’s center-back Federico Fernandez who played for Napoli when Rafa was managing the Italian club.

Fabian Schar – Swiss International center-back

We covered that potential loan deal for the 32 times capped Argentine International yesterday,

The other player mentioned by the Mail is Fabian Schar of Deportivo La Coruna, and the 26-year-old has 42 caps for Switzerland and is now available after Deportivo were relegated last season.

Schar only moved to Derportivo last summer from Hoffenheim on a four-year deal, and he is a talented and experienced defender.

He played for Switzerland in the 2012 Olympics and made his debut for Switzerland the following year in 2013.

Schar represented Switzerland at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2016 and played in the Swiss side in the World Cup in Russia this summer.

He would look to be a good acquisition by Newcastle but no word on what the transfer fee is – it would need to be low for Newcastle are to do a deal.

But maybe a loan deal with an option to buy next summer would be the best move for the Magpies?

We hope to see some deals completed in the transfer market by Newcastle this week.

Comments welcome.

It’s great we’re being linked to direct replacements for the possible outgoing players, but what’s to say Rafa will see the money that is incoming from these deals?!
As someone rightly said, 5.5m for Mbemba is a steal for someone, an international defender should be commanding at least £10m price tag in this inflated market.
Are either of these potential replacements going to be a similar price, I doubt it! I just dont get how we dont recieve these outrageous offers that other EPL teams seem to get! Rumours Jose wants Maguire for £65m, yet Lacelles was valued at £25m…crazy!! £50m for Richardlson, get real!!!

How come the Mbemba deal has gone bad ? We wanted £9m , Porto wanted to pay £7m so £8m was the target price. Now it’s £5.5m ?

We’ve discussed swapping Gayle for Rondon ? Really ? How about yesterday’s rumour ( the key word here being rumour ) that WBA has enquired about taking Gayle on loan.

    More fiction than pulp.

Sat here digesting information about other clubs spend millions on transfers and it is frustrating. Both Rafa and the fans could force the fat slugs hands :-
Rafa walks at the end of the transfer window following no investment. Who can steady the ship and prevent relegation – no one !!!!.
Fans stay away on live tv games – Sports Direct hoardings surrounded by rows of empty seats.
Not great advertisement for his horrid company. Hopefully news on poor season ticket sales is correct !!! Sorry to say it will be painfull for supporters – but the bottom line is stop going until he sells.

Why does Rafa not insert a clause into his 3 year contract offered by Ashley stating if Ashley does not give him a minimum £30M on top of any player sales at the start each season he can walk away without paying compensation to Ashley.

It’s quite funny when you talk about repitition. Do you not repeat yourself ad nauseum endlessly shooting down the people who repeat themselves, while forever defending Ashley (11 years and counting!) For me the insults are all water off a ducks back but for others I suspect when you vent, the expression pot – kettle – black often springs to mind.

the release clause will not be a problem. a lot of teams would pay that in an instant. rafa represents an almost guarentee of premiership survival. he obviously likes it here and i suspect he wants to stay. if he stayed when we went down then who knows? there is still hope.

Unfortunately the only way to get Ashley out is to lose Rafa and then boycott season ticket sales next year. For the fans relegation is a no, but would a bit of pain be worth while to get rid of Ashley.

Come on Rafa you have the backing of the fans to make it difficult for Ashley.

Mateo Kovacic has told Real Madrid he wants to leave
Of course he’s immediately linked with Chelsea Lpool
    etc. etc.
    But think on this
He has often stated his happiest time at the Bernabeu
was playing for Benitez who tried him in every midfield
    role conceivable.

Don’t be surprised if we don’t sell Mbemba, Sels, Mitro or any others for that matter. Ashley probably thinks Rafa’s successor might use them and thus save buying replacements.

You can’t put anything past the greedy tw@t!

Given Ashley’s behaviour with Rafa and his predecessors, you’d have to think that any potential successor wouldn’t go anywhere near him.

But, there’s always mercenaries out there and those that might fall for his lies.

Hibbit..I wouldn’t give out a factual number to begin with…hi but that’s just me!

I would guess this is mainly an English blog with people from the Newcastle area…some who have moved away and some who are Expat…then you have the likes of me, Cyprus and Dok…but we don’t take up a large percentage I would assume…

Whole transfer window just gets crazier, alot of clubs are yet to spend though, Burnley, Spurs etc, not sure how much teams like Palace and Cardiff have done so far…
Ashley just defies belief, even if he just mirrored spending from last summer (30-40m) we’d be in a better place, my guess is that try before you buy is Ashleys preferred way of spending, as theres seemingly less risk and the problem we’re having is that clubs like to see everyone in preseason before decided who to loan out etc

Well Jib you now know of me, Hibbit, Shire Jazzy, Bobby and I’m probably missing a few who are season ticket holders and at at least every home game who know of this blog, never mind the other fans on here who go to other games when they buy tickets. And of course Jail who like me is from South Shields and support Newcastle, at least us in Shields are sensible and support the lads but can still have a ‘normal’ conversation with the Sunderland fans from the area and vice versa. Just coz we are just south of the river doesn’t mean we can’t be real Newcastle fans. Always thought if within a mile of the Tyne you were a Geordie, and as it runs right through South Shields there shouldn’t be an issue

I like many are on a season ticket ten year plan. taken out of bank 27th March. A full six weeks before season is over and probably not knowing which division we are going to be in the following season. It’s very hard to make a decision. Been a season ticket holder for 35 year +. If I wrap in and low and behold he sells up I won’t get my seat back next to mates I’ve sat next to for all them years. He doesn’t sell back to March 27 again. Ashley got it all ends up. Just a personal thought

Jay…I would say that’s a fair point you’re making there!

Prices are inflated and what doesn’t help us is the players we are trying to move on are on the cheap side…devalued if you like and they are difficult to move on and way to expensive to replace…

Fabian Schar at 3M will be steal, also Joe Bryan for 6M will be good, two good players, with room for improvement for 9M will be great, if true. Just dont hesitate and bring them both, also Rondon and Welbeck…

i think the number of posters on here that are season ticket holders and actually attend games is a very small percentage of the total blog

my original post was response to the “…and those who really can make a difference – I think – won’t do what’s necessary! “

I’m just saying where I am located in SJP.

A mile from the Tyne is cool

I know a few Mackems north of the Tyne

W Bay N Shields and Seaton Sluice

Around me they are from mainly Alnwick
    Hexham and Morpeth.
To be brutally frank they are such yokels
they’ve probably never heard of the internet
