Another Fringe Player To Leave Newcastle

Keith Downie of Sky Sports is reporting that Matz Sels will be leaving Newcastle for Strasbourg who were 15th in Ligue 1 last season.

They conceded 67 goals which was the third worst goals against record in the top French league so they will hope to do better next season.

That was their first season in the top league after they were promoted in first place last year.

Sels finished a good season on loan to Anderlecht in his home country Belgium and was disappointed that deal did not go through.

Matz Sels – in action for Newcastle at Hull in late 2016

But it will be a good move for Sels to go to France and show them what he can do.

Newcastle will get €4M (£3.5M) for the Belgian after we paid around £5M (?) for him from Gent two years ago.

Matz is now in France taking a medical, and if all is well, he will sign on at Strasburg.

When that happens, it will be another fringe player off the wage bill at Newcastle.

Matz is still a good goalkeeper and can do well in the French League.

He played 14 times for Newcastle and the transfer is not official until Newcastle announce it on their website.

My son Jack age 26 was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) and has been undergoing chemotherapy treatment prior to a life saving bone marrow transplant operation.

As you can imagine this is a difficult time for us although everyone is bearing up including Jack (even though he won’t be able to attend any toon games this year).

The Antony Nolan trust has been fantastic ( as have all the NHS doctors and nurses ) and have found a 2nd donor that matches Jack after the first donor pulled out on 2 days notice.

Jack is due to have TBR (total body radiation) treatment from the 30th and will hopefully undergo the transplant operation 4 days later.

There is however a shortage of donors for this life saving operation and it costs Anthony Nolan £40 per donor so I would therefore like to try and raise some money to help them.

My son is running the Royal parks half marathon this year and the London marathon next April

If you could spare anything at all I’d be grateful if you could donate to my sons just giving page at the link below.
