Here’s Some Good News For Newcastle – Player Reported To Be Having Medical Today

The Mirror are reporting today that Newcastle are close to agreeing a deal to take Deportivo’s Swiss World Cup center-back Fabian Schar to Newcastle.

The Mirror says Newcastle are on the verge of making the center-back the replacement for Chancel Mbemba who joined Porto this week.

If this is correct, it’s excellent news because Newcastle may be short of Florian Lejeune for a while with his knee injury and the Swiss defender is a classy ball-playing center-back.

He would be an excellent addition to the squad, and he would cost only £3.5M – an excellent deal for us.

Fabian Schar – while at Basel winning three Swiss Championships

That’s his relegation release clause and his club Deportivo were relegated in May, and the news is we are near to agreeing on a deal for Scar.

Schar only moved to Deportivo last summer after leaving Hoffenheim, where he played for two seasons after leaving Basel in 2015.

Schar has been on the radar screen at Newcastle since back in the days when he was still playing at Basel.

Schar is class, and he is very good with the ball at his feet.

Here’s a piece from the Mirror report:

“Newcastle are on the verge of making centre back Schar their fourth summer signing after agreeing a fee of around £3.5M with Deportivo La Coruna, and the 26-year-old is believed to be having medical on Wednesday.”

Let’s hope this news is accurate since there were other clubs after the defender.

‘Some NUFC supporters are complaining to OFSTED over Sky Sports’ biased reporting’
I think OFSTED might be interested in fake news being spotted by school kids but…….. We’ll take that as a Grauniad type typo.
Have you noticed how typos are creeping back since the Grauniad went tabloid?

Nicky………. As I have explained previously Lesh is obsessed with condemning Ashley because the blog gives him a platform to vent his hatred for capitalism.
I think he genuinely does care about the club but his main agenda is as a far left wing communist.

to be fair i think everone wants to vent at the running of the club for the last 11 years, regardless of any political leanings

If we get Schar and Bryan for just under 10 million that is some serious quality for a reasonable price!!

Schar has always impressed me it looks like he has had iffy spells elsewhere but this is a player with a point to prove and Rafa does know how to develop centre halfs !!

Bryan for me just oozes quality reminds me of a younger Leighton Baines who funnily enough the Toon missed out on years ago…

Would allow us to go 352 with Dummett being a 3rd centre half at times as well

But in all seriousness we need to get some more players in especially up top

Rotonda ………. We are all totally disgusted at Ashley’s running of the club since he took over and of course we must vent our anger. We care about the club more than any poitical stance. That is not the case with Lesh which is all I was highlighting.

Jail…… I didn’t say I condoned Nicky’s choice of words but was merely pointing out that Lesh is obsessed with Ashley bashing for his own reasons which are not totally in line with other fans.

The problem with your alternate views is that they seem to come from an alternate universe.

Outlandish and poorly thought out really after all the evidence points to the complete opposite.

Maybe it’s just around the corner eh.

Every fcuking year, people like you swallow the guff and that’s exactly what he counts on.

    Fat cnut out!

lesh – regarding Chi Onwurah – I have a lot of time for her and she stands up for the North East. However the point you don’t seem to be able to grasp is people these days do not read Hansard but see clips from Parliament as videos on news media sites, YouTube etc. The fact is as a Newcastle supporter she did not know how to pronounce Benitez lost her credibility – nothing political just an observation.

Average, you don’t like it I understand, but it is always at the very least plausible. You should give me that, or point out where it isn’t, and why not. Simply saying they come from an alternate universe isn’t that persuasive. I don’t discount your view or Lesh’s, but it just aint necessarily so. Plus you should watch your language, kids on here you know.

martoon, I have to agree with you, there can’t even be nerves, she’s done loads of speeches before. Very strange that she can’t (or couldn’t) pronounce his surname, was it nerves, maybe a latent lisp or speech impediment? I don’t know. Was still great to hear a Geordie voice in The House though.

I think the guys commenting about Chi Onwurah mispronouncing Benitez’s name need to remember Sir Bobby. He got players names wrong quite regularly, pretty sure he knew what he was talking about and didn’t lose credibility.
I think she deserves nothing but praise.
