Bundesliga club Mainz have said they have indeed agreed a fee to sell their striker Yoshinori Muto to Newcastle United.
Sky Sports have already reported the fee is £9.5M and Muto should be arriving today from Tokyo to have his medical and sign along the dotted line.
We expect if all goes well Muto will be announced as a Newcastle player tomorrow and for £9.5M that’s not a bad deal for the talented striker.
With the Newcastle squad traveling to Portugal tomorrow, they will probably want Muto on the plane if they can get the transfer completed without any hitches.
Yoshinori Muto – on his way to have medical at Newcastle
Here is the statement issued by his German club Mainz:
“The clubs are, as far as the terms of the contract, largely agreed, however, there are around the transfer still time-consuming formalities to be done.”
It looks like we will have our 5th signing announced and it’s our first striker through the door – the top priority for this summer.
So in two days, we will have signed Fabian Schar for £3M from Deportivo and Yoshinori Muto from Mainz for £9.5M.
We also announced today that goalkeeper Matz Sels has left Newcastle and joined French club Strasbourg for £4M – so we almost got our money back on Matz.
Assuming Muto does sign tomorrow, we still have just under two weeks left in the window to bring in more players and sell some of the fringe players no longer needed.
Rafa wants to bring in maybe two or three more players, and we have to move players out of the club like Aleksandar Mitrovic, Achraf Lazaar, Henri Saivet, Adam Armstrong, and Rolando Aarons.
Comments welcome.

Comment #81I think Rafa fully understands how the club operates financially and that’s the reason he will sign a new deal

Another 4 to go out to make a 25man squad , and I expect mitro to be sold and loan deals for lassar Toney saivet arrons and sterry. That’ll trim 6 off taking us to a 23 man squad. 2 more in maybe?? However we’ll be light in the fullback department so that will need to be adressed as that leaves just 3 fb. So a fullback in is important and also it’ll be interesting to see what happens with Hayden as he may leave yet!

Comment #83I tjink we are doing a great job wheeling and dealing. Schar is one of the best centre backs in Europe. Muto, I’m not sure. His goal record looks like a midfielder not a striker. His not even Japan first choice striker.

Comment #84Jib’s back and he’s still cheerleading for Ashley.
Where’s he been? He’s been daan Landan watching one of Bishop’s PowerPoint presentation briefings on the lines to take, the bull to peddle in support of Ashley.
Judging by some of the posts, anybody’d think that Ashley’s demonstrated his full backing for Rafa. Perhaps Jib could remind us how much he’s spent so far – nett spend please.
And there’s Nicky still trying to convince us that Ashley’s way of running the club’s the right way. Running a club to the point that it’s down to the bones of its arris ain’t the way to do anything other than try to avoid relegation near every season. And Rafa’s got to appreciate that and work under a proven liar? Is that really what you’re saying Nicky?.
Another poster who’s trying to convince us that it’ll be all right on the night.
Ffs, Rafa’s jack’s been forced against the wall but he, like the fans’ll have the last laugh over Ashley.

Comment #86“Schar is one of the best centre-backs in Europe”
In the end the Swiss international left mixing feelings with his performance, at times he left the feeling of been a solid defender that can join the attack, as it happened scoring goals in straight matchdays against Málaga CF (2-3, November 19) and Athletic Club (2-2, November 26), but at times he also committed errors that demonstrated that he wasn’t ready for the elite, as example the way he covered Messi in the 2-4 loss that meant the relegation (April 29). He was a starting choice for Pepe Mel and Cristóbal Parralo, but later became the third centre-back with Clarence Seedorf.

Comment #87No shame in being made to look like amateur by Messi. Maybe he was dropped because he wasnt committed due to his contract.

Comment #89I see the “Nabob of Negativity” was on again last – at 1am! – continuing his one-man crusade against the owner…..and oddly enough, me, all on the old Dell in the spare room. It’s like being pestered by a flock of knucklehead. I’ll keep posting late in the evening, so when he wakes in fright in the wee hours each night he’ll have something to do rather than tossing and turning, wailing away and grinding what’s left of his teeth. We are very different of course, Lesh and I. All I care about is Rafa staying and the lads playing some decent football come Saturday. All he cares about is Mike Ashley and anyone else who earned a bob or two suffering a fatal coronary.

Comment #90Hmm,they don’t have a clue how old he is ?
How could they managed to sign him then Lochinvar? You pay millions for players and there is an extensive medical check up (flesh, bones etc). You can’t get away with it.
—
Still think Rafa missed the trick. He is versatile and could have solved a number of holes/problems,esp when injuries kick in.Porto is a big club, playing in the Cl regularly.Their signing of him tells a lot about him than his age.Good luck to him anyway.Would like to see him burst and prove his doubters wrong. Especially those gooble doops that called him another Titus Bramble.

I’m on a one man crusade against Ashley? Go tell it to the Chron, the Guardian, The Times and the Mail. Oh and when you’ve done that, you’d better tell ‘ifrafagoeswego’ they don’t exist.
The way you’re going on one could be forgiven you’re on a retainer from Bishop. You wouldn’t be the first to be paid to lobby as part of an image enhancing PR campaign such as the one Bishop’s running to paint a picture of a far-sighted and ambitious owner who’s being portrayed as a villain but is really the victim of an unjustified hate campaign.

Comment #92so far all we’ve done is plug a few holes and kept the players from last season which had to be the initial priority. now we need to go out and get 1 or 2 players who can make a big difference. ki, schar and muto were very much needed as injuries to perez or shelvey would have left us struggling.
i said at the end of the season we’d replace mbemba with someone and clark would fall to 4th choice. if he’s got any ambition he has to be looking to leave. he’s quite a bit behind the other three but could easy go to a top championship club for decent money and maintain his wages. we could sell him and get that mexican guy.

Comment #93its a bit early to be celebrating a good window, same as it is a bit early for self-immolation or jumping off the tyne bridge. if we can get 3 from bryan, dawson, traore, ben arfa, and rafa to make peace with mitrovic and turn him into a 20 goal striker and i’ll be happy as larry.

Comment #94Lesh, you have all the sensibility of a trot turnip. My views on Ashley extend no further than him sorting out Rafa on a long term contract, and then selling up responsibly and giving someone else a go. If he fails in the first, I’m right behind “If Rafa goes, we go”, but last time I looked Rafa was still at his post beavering away as usual.

Is it the Mail reporting we won’t pay £6m for Bryan because he’s in the last year of his contract?
Will somebody tell Ashley, Barnes and Charnley that,NUFC is not the only club in the world and other clubs will pay the asking price for potential. Remember Alli? Penny pinching again are we?

Hang on…. one minute you want Rafa to understand and sign up to how the club’s run under Ashley and the next you want Ashley to get Rafa signed up long term? Those hopes are mutually incompatible.
Check your ‘lines to take’ crib sheet that Bishop’s given you.

We have freebies loans and others who there teams don’t want
I know it’s not rafas fault it’s the fat man
