Newcastle Face Some Serious Competition To Sign This Defender

Newcastle have been linked for a while now with Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan.

Bryan has had two good seasons for the Robins, and he’s one of the players who caught Rafa’s eye in the Championship a couple of years ago.

The price tag that’s been mentioned for the 24-year-old is £6M which you would think Newcastle can afford this summer.

The other club really interested in the player is RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

Rafa needs to bring in at least one full-back this summer and Bryan would seem like a good buy for just £6M.

Joe Bryan Rafa wants him at Newcastle

Other German clubs Augsburg and Mainz 05 are also reported to be interested in the player.

Championship clubs Leeds and Middlesbrough are also interested, but it’s doubtful the Robins will sell to a Championship rival.

Wolves could also go after Bryan if they fail in their attempts to get Manchester City star Oleksandr Zinchenko and news today is the player may want to stay at City.

And Wolves have been free-spending this summer, and you would think £6M would be nothing to them.

Bryan came through his hometown club’s Youth Academy, and it could be a massive opportunity for him to join a club like Newcastle with Rafa Benitez at the helm.

If Bryan doesn’t leave Bristol City this summer he will become a free agent next summer and clubs will be able to talk to him in January.

We are hoping Rafa can persuade the left-sided player to join Newcastle this summer, but it will not be easy.

Comments welcome.

PS – we know there are stories that Newcastle have been priced out of a deal for Bryan at £6M – how can that possibly be true?

we’ve been priced out by a £6m price tag apparently. made a £12m profit, and after Muto and selling Mitro it’ll be £23.5m profit. work that one out….

Tuff and Funky, thanks for the update on Muto, makes sense that a work permit may hold things up but he did play in Europe so hoping this will not be an issue. These next few weeks are going to interesting as transfers go, some leaving with some meant to be coming in. I hope we manage to get someone to cover Yedlin’s position, ideal player someone that can play at either L/B or R/B, but for me its the number 10, knowing we have kenedy and jonjo that can make that pass shelvy or run kenedy it would be ideal for that lay off just in front of them if they didn’t have that pass or run that could find one of our attackers or even score them selves. God I love this club but sometimes it like watching a bad B MOVIE!!!!

    Rinaldo Aaron’s…. Previous post
I fully agree with you on Banded after having a look at him on you tube….highly skilled, quick, strong on the ball, tireless worker etc and only 22. For those who haven’t seen him it’s worth taking a look at him on you tube.

Makes sense to loan Aarons out hopefully to an English team kid has to prove himself big time !

Needs to aim to play 10 games in a row for 90 minutes and take it from there Blackburn under Mowbray would be a good move for him

See that QPR have been hit with a transfer ban as part of the FFP oris it FPP rules.

Why can’t that be used on clubs who don’t spend enough? 🙂

What I’d like to know is where on earth has all the EPL money gone?

All the millions of cash that has come into NUFC coffers?

Mr Ashley is an ungrateful so & so in so many ways to put it mildly.

Howay Mr Ashley get your hand in your pockets for our fantastic manager!!!

    Bryan in for 8m
    Nández in for 12-15m
    Rondon in for 15m

I genuinely think we could get into Europe with those signings

thats a spend of £35m+ i don’t see Ashley giving the nod to that kind of spending unless Rafa can do a bit of wheeling and dealing with players he’s happy to lose

Although it seems the Nández links are more like the drivel we’ve been fed throughout the window than actual solid info like Muto

The ever reliable Lee Ryder tells us “Nothing in Nathitan Nandez at the moment, some interest in Joe Bryan but the valuation is some way apart”
    which doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

However apparently “there’s a number of La Liga options and Premier League loans being looked at” to try and bring in a number 10

Yes that’s right. Hopefully he’s still got family there so could be persuaded to go the other way to grease the wheels for Bryan coming the other way

One out one in would be in keeping with Fatty’s policy, another piece of deadwood would be shifted, the fee would probably be lower and our wage budget would remain largely the same – seems like a perfect deal for us but as with all player swaps there are a greater number of parties involved so therefore a greater likelihood of the deal falling through. Given our club officials’ negotiating skills it might be a bit of a stretch.

Pereira is a decent player although I wonder whether he would get into our team ahead of the great Ayoze – if he’s not guaranteed to play at least the majority of games I doubt Man Utd would let us have him

Yoshinori Muto could be a bargain for Newcastle. He’s tactically excellent, great off the ball, times his runs well, and is a very hard worker.
Is he the forward that will bang loads of goals..Maybe not as his record proves,But will buy into Rafas ethos of playing for the team and not as an individual

Agreed – he seems to often be in the right place at the right time to score goals. I have always said that our midfield creates loads of chances especially after Kenedy joined. He will probably get twice as many chances here as he got at Mainz so I wouldn’t be surprised if he got twice as many goals

Maybe that Zinchenko fella from Man City – although wolves want him permanently and he would prefer to stay at Man City so it’s probably unlikely.
