Some reports are coming out of South America that Newcastle are interested in signing Boca Juniors central midfielder Nahitan Nandez – full name – Nahitan Michel Nandez Acosta.
The 22-year-old was part of Uruguay’s World Cup squad in Russia this summer, and he has 17 full caps for his country.
Nandez was captain of the Uruguay U20 side for the 2015 FIFA U20 World Cup played in New Zealand, and he made his senior debut for Uruguay in September 2015 in a friendly game against Costa Rica.
One report the Chronicle are mentioning is from ClossAM, which is a radio station in Argentina and Newcastle have asked how much the release clause is in Nandez’ current contract at Boca Juniors.
There is no specific number coming out on that with reports ranging from £12M to £22M.
22-year-old Boca Juniors midfielder Nahitan Nandez
£12M is good £22M is not so good.
Maybe Nandez would be a young player who could come in to replace Isaac Hayden who is keen to move south to be closer to his girlfriend and their baby.
Rafa is known not to let players leave until he has a replacement lined up.
For Rafa to be interested in Nandez, he must know a lot about the player and from what we can tell Nandez looks like a good up-and-coming player who could come in and fill the vacuum left by younger players like Mikel Merino and Isaac Hayden.
We need some young players who can improve under Rafa’s tutelage in the Newcastle squad.
Nandez stared his career at Penarol in Montevideo and only moved to Boca Juniors last summer.
While at Penarol he played 87 times with 8 goals and 11 assists and last season he played 27 games with 4 goals and one assist in his maiden season in Argentina.
It will be interesting to see if Rafa is indeed keen on bringing the young Uruguayan central midfielder to Newcastle.
