Benitez Verifies Mitrovic Deal Is Done – Talks About New Signing Muto

A lot happened just before the game against Porto last night that we drew 0-0.

It was a decent performance by the Newcastle defense with new goalkeeper Martin Dubravka the star player making several top-class save especially in the second half.

Newcastle now have a deal with Fulham for Aleksandar Mitrovic to join permanently and it’s for an initial fee of £22M which can rise to £27M with add-ons.

We also assume Newcastle have a sell-on clause that gives us a percentage of the profits if Mitro is sold by Fulham in the future.

Aleksandar Mitrovic – after scoring for Serbia in World Cup

This is what Rafa said about Mitrovic after the game last night:

“I think it’s done.”

“I think he has an agreement with Fulham and I wish him all the best. Hopefully he can score a lot of goals but not against us.”

“But it’s something we were expecting and it’s now a case of looking to see if we can bring someone else to replace him.”

“We are working and trying to bring in new players to bring in new competition.”

“Muto is done but it’s just waiting for the work permit. He played in the World Cup in a good team.”

“He has done well in the Bundesliga so we are talking about a striker that is doing well in the last few years at international level.”

“He has quality and can bring us energy and good movement plus the intensity you need. I don’t see any problem with him.”

That’s the first time Rafa has talked about new signing Muto and he obviously rates the Mainz forward.

We expect the announcement to be later this coming week once he has his work permit.

It was good news about Mitro last night and there’s been some decent activity in the transfer market by Newcastle over the last several days.

Comments welcome.

    There you go Jail
    demonstrating your lack of comprehension
    once again

    I said:-
I understand the logic of a man of
Ashley’s ilk in not allowing Rafa to spend
until he signs a new deal .

Somebody said why don’t we sell Joselu a while back. I think the fact that barely a poster has suggested we sell him or Manquillo speaks volumes. If anyone thought we had the slightest chance of selling either we’d all be saying it. Let’s hope they can both have better 2nd seasons.

    Rafa’s comments about Muto
show what a good grasp he
    has .
Muto will (to use a Bob Marleyism)
    lively up the front line.
both Murphy and Ritchie did great
on the flanks but their target men
were like statues forcing them into
    crosses all the time.

    Secret Footballer

I’m hearing that Chelsea football club is in the process of being sold to Jim Radcliffe for £2bn.

    How much??????? Surely not.
Why won’t he buy us for a sixth of that amount?

    Jail for Ashley
    Jib,
Stating that you can understand the logic in not allowing Rafa
to spend until he signs a new deal was one of the most blatant
defences of him I’ve ever witnessed.

It must be a language thing

I perceived it as a criticism of his looking
at a footy club through a business mans eyes

Fulham will be within the fair play rules. They will be selling Sessengnon either this year or next which will balance everything out.

I think we need to turn our focus away from relegated teams. If you look at a team like Celta Vigo or a team of similar level in any non English league. Aspas, Rodriguez and Sisto. Anyone of them would dream of premier league money and coming to us. Each one available for 20-30m. Money we have. Go get one.

Jib on face value I can see why a chairman wants a manager committed long term before he commits millions to him. But in reality its treating Rafa like a kid and millions need to be invested on the pitch, irrespective of whether Rafa is here or not. Its hugely disappointing that we have to look for the low price option when we are getting good sky bucks this season.

benton needs money spent on a complete rebuild and the neglect is starting to show at st james ashleys has the club running on a shoestring with even maintenance budgets and staff cut to an absolute minimum

“If we do the math we have the money”. C-dog why don’t you enlighten us? We are second season back after a financially debilitating relegation.

Assuming Ashley is not withholding money, which has only been reported not verified, and if true then undoubtedly he is playing some serious hardball with Rafa, then it seems to me we either have to dig ourselves out of this, or Ashley goes into his own pocket, or Ashley starts kicking in for his advertising.

What do you think the most realistic course of action is for us under this owner?

Surely you don’t think Ashley is genuine in his plan to give Rafa a budget if he signs a new contract.
He knows Rafa is the best wheeler dealer there is and will keep us “safe” in the prem on a shoestring! That’s why he wants Rafa to sign a contract.
Things haven’t changed since KK’s statement. Some of us would love to know your logic in defending Ashley! You must know we will never have success under his ownership until he sees the light!

There is a case for the argument that Ashley is abusing the Sky project by filling his pockets with what is meant to be reinvested in the game, either in players, facilities etc. However as we know the natural course of events is, lack of investment will result in relegation and eventual oblivion, whilst enterprising clubs like Fulham, Wolves will take our place!
Ashley must change or sell! He has no future at Newcastle! Ashley out!
