Newcastle have done really well in getting an initial payment of £22M for Aleksandar Mitrovic moving to Fulham – with the move being imminent.
Mitro will be undergoing his medical today after returning to England from the Portugal tour and he was in Portugal with Newcastle less than 24 hours.
The word came through just before the 8:00 pm kickoff last night that Fulham and Newcastle had finally agreed a fee for the 23-year-old Serbian striker.
That didn’t take long.
Keith Downie of Sky Sports reported it was £22M initially and up to £5M in potential add-ons – to be fair that’s a very good deal negotiated by Managing Director Lee Charnley.
Rafa Benitez – looks happy at the news
🙂
And after the 0-0 draw last night at Porto Rafa Benitez was asked if any of that money would be available to him to spend and this is what he said:
“I don’t know the numbers or I don’t control the accounts, but I think if you do the maths we have enough money.”
We have updated our transfer table and included two deals which are still pending – Muto to Newcastle for £9.5M and Mitro to Fulham for £22M.
But with those deals completing shortly Raf will have brought in £41M in transfer fees and we have paid out (only) £16.5M.
In other words – a typical Mike Ashley transfer window.
This is what the numbers look like – there seems around £24.5M profit we have made this summer so far, although we have not included agents’ fees and loan fees in the figures.
That’s enough to buy striker Salomon Rondon (£16.5M) from West Brom and left-back Joe Bryan (£6M) from Bristol City and keep Dwight Gayle at the club.

Comment #3Hanley was brought in for a purpose, firstly to fight for a starting place, when Clarke and Lascelles proved better he was there as back up, he was moved on with minimal fuss. Not a great buy but certainly not a poor one either.

Comment #4If we have 24 million available (doubt it). For me that’s 6 million for Bryan and £18 million for De Arrescaeta. Then Reyes on a free.

Unfortunately Mike Ashley has done his own math following the Mitro sale: zero funds for incomming transfers! 🙁

Comment #7Toonces…that only to player were moved on. Both players we took a Lise on. One should have been kept.
Only Richie had been a revelation. Diame had a great second part of last season.
Yes Sels, Lazaar, and Hanley were poor. The rest couldn’t be shifted. Those we have shifted now we took a lose on again.
Been said ones already but you didn’t really get it the first time around…
What job had these player done your so proud of. They have been very poor so far:
– Yedlin – not been that great
-Manq – poor
-Murphy – has been a £12M letdown
-Atsu – seems to be a Championship player
– Merino – had a great start sad to see him go before we really had the opportunity to see him
Clarke – did well in the Championship
– Gayle – we are trying to shift him each season
– Joselu – don’t understand this one
We are all please about the finish last season. I am also pleased we finished 5th under Pardew

Comment #8You can argue we’ve been stuck with players from the push for promotion but that’s more down to Ashley not releasing funds, so Rafas had to keep players he didn’t want as the sale value wasn’t worth the sale as any replacement wouldn’t be worth it. If you drop 2 3 or 4 of these players to buy 1 better there’s gaps in your squad so injuries would screw you.
I’d blame the transfer policy over the manger every day of the week and twice on Sunday, Rafa got his way slightly then Ashley slammed the cookie jar firmly shut!

Comment #9The only deal I can see being done is swap deal Gayle for rondon transfer market closed and maybe just maybe 1 more loan deal if we r lucky profit again for Ashley and to think alot of people on here think we will be fine I watched the match last neet against Porto and I no it’s only pre season but we were shit spent most of the game defending if it wasn’t for wor keeper it would of been a different result what we need is a lb rb 10 roll 2 strikers and another winger so that’s 6 more players but sadly we will only be getting one more 2 if we are lucky

Comment #11Bearing in mind that transfer fees will be paid (and received) over a number of years (usually 5) the figures quoted won’t be the amounts available for this window. ie ‘generated by the club’. So don’t expect anything near the £24.5 million quoted.
The amount is what Ashley is willing to free up for transfers and will bear no correlation to the figurers above.

I can’t see how you can knock Gayle, he banged them in for fun in the championship, one of our best players.
I think Rafa would like to keep him as back up and for playing a different tactic, as Rafa can’t get a penny out of Ashley I think Rafa would or will sell as he’s one of our most saleable assets.
I wouldn’t say we’re stuck with him, I think we could sell him tomorrow for a profit.

I agree on Joselu, can’t understand him, Gayle even in the prem offers something.
Stretches the game etc. I’d say he’s definitely way better in the championship but I wouldn’t call him a failure in the Prem.
I wouldn’t say stick with him or poor signing either.

I’m looking at your list there..
‘Very poor so far’. ??
Yedlin – done pretty well. A regular starter.
Manquillo – squad number
Murphy – hasn’t set the world alight, but was bought for the future after all, arguably still time?
Merino – good prospect, doing canny then spat the dummy out when not in the team after an injury
Atsu – championship player? Really… Your opinion then.
Gayle – fair enough, not done it in PL but scored a tonne of goals to get us back up which was why we bought him
Joselu – aye ok (I think you have made your point there 🙂
Hardly ‘very poor’ as a group!

Comment #28OP…I don’t think Gayle offerers much to be honest. He had looked okay at times because Joselu has been so poor.
I was pleased with him though in the latter part of last season when Mitro was send out on loan and we brought in an injured Slimani.
He did better than I would have thought 🙂

Comment #29Gayle’s pace and running in behind allowed us to play deep defensively and counter-attack, hence us playing with less possession than most we played but with jonjo’s passing we could do it and counter with gayle in behind.
yes his finishing was poor and doubt he will every be a PL striker but if we dont have that running game up front then there will be a change in play needed, less runners for jonjo to hit – cant see rondon running the lines as Gayle did. Perhaps muto will take that role?
Still think Gayle has something to offer the team though as backup.Would be nice to have a gayle-type who doesnt miss so many though sadly these players are 20+m…

Comment #31Muto to me looks like a Gayle replacement. Has some pace, gets into good positions and will chase but not so composed in front of goal.
I see some sense in Rondon. Cack finisher but he does hold up the ball well. Is relatively mobile for a lad of his size and I think he can play back to goal which we don’t have.
Worrying me that we still do not have goals in the team. And could use more creativity.
Dream (and that’s all it is)
Would be a lb, 10, striker and winger.

Good idea. Use the mitro money to make kenedy permanent. Then we can loan another player from them, batshuayi for example. He’s currently being linked to a loan to Valencia.
