Newcastle have done really well in getting an initial payment of £22M for Aleksandar Mitrovic moving to Fulham – with the move being imminent.
Mitro will be undergoing his medical today after returning to England from the Portugal tour and he was in Portugal with Newcastle less than 24 hours.
The word came through just before the 8:00 pm kickoff last night that Fulham and Newcastle had finally agreed a fee for the 23-year-old Serbian striker.
That didn’t take long.
Keith Downie of Sky Sports reported it was £22M initially and up to £5M in potential add-ons – to be fair that’s a very good deal negotiated by Managing Director Lee Charnley.
Rafa Benitez – looks happy at the news
🙂
And after the 0-0 draw last night at Porto Rafa Benitez was asked if any of that money would be available to him to spend and this is what he said:
“I don’t know the numbers or I don’t control the accounts, but I think if you do the maths we have enough money.”
We have updated our transfer table and included two deals which are still pending – Muto to Newcastle for £9.5M and Mitro to Fulham for £22M.
But with those deals completing shortly Raf will have brought in £41M in transfer fees and we have paid out (only) £16.5M.
In other words – a typical Mike Ashley transfer window.
This is what the numbers look like – there seems around £24.5M profit we have made this summer so far, although we have not included agents’ fees and loan fees in the figures.
That’s enough to buy striker Salomon Rondon (£16.5M) from West Brom and left-back Joe Bryan (£6M) from Bristol City and keep Dwight Gayle at the club.

Comment #241The question is, has NUFC shown enough ambition in transfers to keep Rafa at the club and to convince the players we have or whom we might get that we have serious intent to improve and the answer to that is NO.

Why do i feel we’re getting ripped off? That in effect values Gayle at just £11.5m?

Comment #244A loan swap deal for Gayle and Rondon.
Bloody hell, I don’t understand this deal one bit.
Is that Rondon and Muto for Gayle and Mitro?
Using a optimistic eye you could say we’re stronger now as we never used Mitro and Slimani was always injured, it would be a stretch mind.

Comment #245I thought we may have pushed the boat out somewhere.
I mean a £20m striker (wishful thinking) I never thought we’d be splashing cash but I thought maybe Rafa was wheeling and dealing to buy a bit of quality with the bit of cash he has.

Comment #249If Rondon is a swap loan deal for Gayle, then we should rightly have around £50 million or so in the bank for a number 1 striker and a number 10. Perhaps even Townsend as well.
We know once Rondon is in it will be pretty much it, so what’s the plan after the windown slams shut and all we’ve done is replaced like for like at a lower spend than what we’ve received?
We’ve got 2 weeks to get in 2-3 Extra, high quality players and to break the transfer record.
Tick Tock.

As you say we don’t know each other well most of us anyway and the use of yourself in the context of my discussion with Mister Tuff was merely to highlight a deficiency in my view of his postng and not to denigrate yours.
You have fought your corner and that is what I do with Tuff and will do again if I believe he has had a go however slyly.
I know from chats on here with his long time pal Expat (RIP) that he is a decent guy and apparently well regarded in the community and I took Expats view at face value as a decent poster.
I just couldn’t and still can’t reconcile some of his silly behaviour on here.and his inclination to sneer at posters without naming them although it is easy to see who he is driving at. I have gone over the need to mention who it is you are sneering at but he just won’t do so hence beef with him.
I am sure if you perceive what you believe is a dig at you then you will have a go back – that’s all it is in my case.
I am an easy target on here as my take on things doesn’t always resonate with the mainstream in their absoluteness and brevity but I am of my age and generation and make no apology for that in fact I celebrate it.
NUFC has been a major part of my life (along with family) and this is a Blog for all of us so I keep on reading and posting as I feel moved to do so.
I did have a complete break for over 6 months nearly 2 years ago I think as I was fed up with the sniping and silliness. Ended up drifting back on to read only and eventually ended up posting again and have done sporadically since. Tsunki who left recently may well do the same as a break does help .
Anyway i don’t feel too bad about another ramble as it usually quiet on here this time of day 🙂

According to the Daily Mail no money changes hands until the 2019/2020 season if at all. And meanwhile we need to buy a new Centre back to partner Lascalles after Lejeune’s injury
Newcastle will look to finalise a season loan for Salomon Rondon from West Bromwich Albion on Monday.
Talks are continuing over Dwight Gayle going the other way also on loan but both players want permanent sale options put into the agreement.

OK, the story in the Mail could be BS but If I was Gayle and I am surplus to requirements at NUFC and a club like Fulham, who are showing ambition, came in with an offer for me, there is only one place I would be heading, and if NUFC rejected the offer, then I definitely wouldn’t be going to West Brom.

Comment #258I was hoping we’d get Dawson from West Brom, him a Bryan would be great for us. Dummett and yedlin would have real competition.
I’m really hoping that we see the club sold in this window, that would be better than any signing we could make.

Comment #262Jail a few points about your campaign against Sports Direct.
First off it’s not a path I would take but each to their own and
good luck.Anything that could change MA’s running of NUFC
is to be applauded.
However the points I wish to make are.
1.
Your own security – do not believe your isp details can be
hidden from professionals , if SD call them in.
2.
Your actions may constitute harassment for the purposes of
the Protection from Harassment Act 1997
(which also carries criminal sanctions).
3.
I’m not sure you are doing Ed and the blog any favours by
using this public forum to encourage folk to do this.
You’d be better using something like Twitter
I fully expect to get pounced on as an Ashley defender – but anyone
with half a brain can see this isn’t the case

Sounds like a good idea to me! Well done to all.
On Mitro, wether you like the fact he’s been sold or not ( I do), one thing that really strikes me is how Mitro has behaved with impressive dignity as far as I can see. At no point, that I’ve seen, has he ever came out and slated Rafa or the club, just concentrated on doing his job, which to be fair to him he has done pretty well since he went out of the door on loan.
You see players go on strike, verbally abuse those who have ‘Wronged’ them etc.
Well done young un and all the best.

For the first time I agree with what you have said in relation to Jail’s little bit of online hassle.
Jail you need to be careful, I.P addresses can be obtained and a complicated form once filled in will show your location.
The fat man might just want to make an example of someone….mind you it will take a while.
We just have to remain patient, we all do the maths and it looks like he is recouping as much coin as he can and fingers crossed then drops his ridiculous price to sell.
Seemingly Stavely is still in the wings and if rumours are believed – she is the only bidder.
Rafa is still here, he will know what’s going on and it’s my opinion ash will sell up at the end of this season ‘if we are still in the premier league’

Comment #268I see Fulham are at an advanced stage for Alfie mawson. If I was Leicester I’d be in for him to sell them slab head.
My point is though we should be in for mawson. The fact Fulham are likely to get him is a sign of their intent.
I’m thinking we will loan rondon, get in Reyes on a free. Replace Hayden and the window will shut for us.
I think Ashley is going to pocket the premier league cash, bank on us staying up. Pocket next season’s cash then sell the club having made the 400million he wants. I think this is his exit strategy. If we end the window without spending decent cash I’m pretty sure that’s his plan.

Comment #273I would be a bit disappointed if the Rondon Gayle deal ended up being loans – that would use up our last domestic loan slot and block some other deals we could make.
If both players (as this article claims) want permanent option clauses attached into the contract then why not just make both deals permanent in the first place?
It seems that either us or WBA want to loan rather than sell/buy – perhaps Rafa is hesitant regarding Rondon and doesn’t think he is a long term solution or maybe the club is trying a bit of jiggery pokery to get Rondon on a free next year? Or maybe WBA are unwilling to pay Dwight’s wages and a loan means we can subsidise them? Or maybe Gayle and Rondon both want to see which league each team will be in next year before they pen their long term futures ?
