New Signing Makes Terrific Start In Preseason At Porto

Martin Dubravka played his first minutes of the preseason on Saturday night since he signed on at Newcastle permanently this summer.

And the Slovakian International looked what he seemed last season while on loan at Newcastle – a top-class goalkeeper – who will only improve under the guidance of Rafa Benitez.

Both Dubravka and Kenedy are with us for the coming season with Martin signing permanently for only £4M and Kenedy on loan.

The local press are reporting there is no option to buy Kenedy in his loan contract which – if accurate – is disappointing

Dubravka made some world-class saves in the second half at Porto to keep the clean sheet before he was replaced by Karl Darlow on 72 minutes and Karl also made a couple of great saves.

Martin Dubravka – in training

Dubravka met former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas – his idol – and he got his shirt.

That was with the help of Joselu – who played with Casillas at Real Madrid.

This is what Martin Dubravka has said as reported in the Chronicle today:

“I was a little bit shocked to see him standing in front of me.”

“I got his picture so for me it was a special night.”

“I was really happy that I was able to speak with him and he gave me his jersey. I asked Joselu because he used to play with him at Real Madrid so he arranged it for me.”

“I’m really happy about that. I’ll have to invite him to dinner to say thank you.”

“I will be getting it framed and put it in my house.”

The positive coming out of the game at Porto was Newcastle’s defensive qualities.

But we must get more players through the door so we can be a real threat up front – which we weren’t on Saturday night in Porto.

Martin Dubravka could well be one of Newcastle’s top signings if he keeps playing like he did last season for us.

He is a first class professional and we are so pleased to have him at Newcastle.

Comments welcome.

Franco when laying siege to Madrid (I think – it could have been Barcelona)
in the Spanish civil war was asked if 4 columns of troops would be enough
to take the city – he replied – I have a fifth column inside

Devastated that Mina is seemingly going to Everton. I would have thrown everything we have to get him. Ideal for the PL with his physicality and leadership quualities and still quite young. He’s going to be a monster and how we could have used him now with the Lejeune injury.

I posted something yesterday about the SD strategy and I share your concerns if it does seriously bite not necessarily on an individual basis as there would as Shire says be too many but if he lashed out at the fans en masse.

Just a thought and not to put anyone off doing what they feel is right as I believe SD is the correct target to make our disatisfaction known.

    Think that probably was Barcelona.
The Catalans have never forgiven nor forgotten Franco.

I have shared my concerns, some good people on here and just don’t want to see them in grief.

I agree SD is his Achilles heel but maybe it would be better to stand outside various stores with placards – which is lawful – rather than any cyber issues.

Folk can do what they wish, that’s their choice and as I have said I applaud their efforts. Just hate to see anyone in bother.

    Cheers for the craic fella

Dubravka could turn out to be the best bit of business we did this summer.

How people think that “ordering” 999 shirts on a SD website somehow screws up their business is seriously deluded.

The stock only becomes “unavailable” once the funds have been received.
