Rafa Benitez Interested In This New 27-Year-Old Center-Back Target

Newcastle are reported to be interested in West Brom’s 27-year-old center-back Ahmed Hegazi, according to ESPN FC.

Hegazi joined West Brom on loan last season with an option to buy from Egyptian club  Al Ahly, and the move was made permanent last December.

He played in every one of the 38 Premier League games for West Brom last season and was one of their best players.

Rafa Benitez is looking to bring in another center-back for the season following the severe ACL knee injury to Florian Lejeune seems like it will keep him sidelined for most of the season.

There is a release clause in Hegazi’s contract, and that could be triggered by Newcastle if Rafa thinks he’s the one who should be signed this summer.

Brighton & Hove Albion are the other Premier League club said to be interested in the defender.

Hegazi stands 6ft 4ins tall and has played for Egypt 48 times since making his debut against Sierra Leone in 2011 when he was just 20 years old.

West Brom want to keep him at the club but know they are helpless if a club triggers his release clause and then can agree on terms with the Egyptian.

The release clause is reported to be anywhere from £2.5M to £10M – take your pick.

£10M is the same fee that Swansea want for their defender Federico Fernandez, which was supposed to be too high for Newcastle.

ESPN only report a bargain fee is in place for the Egyptian defender.

Here’s a list of all of Rafa’s transfers
He may say he likes to get players
signed early (which manager doesn’t ?)
but more often than not he signs quite late.

Think this guy would do a great job alongside Lascelles and is better than our other back up CB’s now Lejuene is out. Much better option than Dawson anyway!

How long do we take to buy our targets ! This is really laughable, well it’s not for us but my god they are hopeless.

Depending on which source you read ash has between £80 – £140 million he has managed to cream off from prem money, tv money, outgoing transfers….We simply do not know but I am not believing anything he comes out with.

Aaargh this bloke really has no idea about football.

Horrible feeling that Ashley will do a deal on transfer deadline day he’ll sell Lascelles for £40m and bring in someone for about £5m just a feeling but it wouldn’t surprise me

NUFC are 20/1 to finish in the bottom 3
If every supporter at SJP put £300 on that
Then if we are relegated we’d have enough
    to buy out Ashley

Clarke needs upgrading, this is an ideal opportunity to do that while bedding in a new CB.

To be fair WBA were hamstrung by having Pardew as their manager for a large part of last season. They only won 1 game with him in charge. I think they had deficiencies in their squad but they also have some decent players.

Jib; if every Newcastle supporter put £300 on us to be relegated the odds would crash. By the time the 50000th person got their money on we would be odds on favourites to be relegated.
