Newcastle are reported to be interested in West Brom’s 27-year-old center-back Ahmed Hegazi, according to ESPN FC.
Hegazi joined West Brom on loan last season with an option to buy from Egyptian club Al Ahly, and the move was made permanent last December.
He played in every one of the 38 Premier League games for West Brom last season and was one of their best players.
Rafa Benitez is looking to bring in another center-back for the season following the severe ACL knee injury to Florian Lejeune seems like it will keep him sidelined for most of the season.

There is a release clause in Hegazi’s contract, and that could be triggered by Newcastle if Rafa thinks he’s the one who should be signed this summer.
Brighton & Hove Albion are the other Premier League club said to be interested in the defender.
Hegazi stands 6ft 4ins tall and has played for Egypt 48 times since making his debut against Sierra Leone in 2011 when he was just 20 years old.
West Brom want to keep him at the club but know they are helpless if a club triggers his release clause and then can agree on terms with the Egyptian.
The release clause is reported to be anywhere from £2.5M to £10M – take your pick.
£10M is the same fee that Swansea want for their defender Federico Fernandez, which was supposed to be too high for Newcastle.
ESPN only report a bargain fee is in place for the Egyptian defender.
