Rafa Close To Terrific Loan Agreement For Top Young Brazilian

This could be very good news for Newcastle with le10sport reporting in France that Newcastle are very close to getting a loan deal agreed to bring Thiago Maia to Tyneside for next season.

He has been a target of Rafa’s all summer and he only joined Lille last summer from Santos for around £11M and played really well for them in his first season playing in Europe.

He played 37 games in the holding midfield position for Lille last season with a single goal and is simply a fabulous young player.

As usual, Rafa will want an option to buy in the loan contract and that could be tricky to fix the amount because the 21-year-old has loads of potential.

Thiago Maia – while at Santos

This would be the player presumably to replace Isaac Hayden who may now get his wish to move south to be closer to his girlfriend and new baby – the news on that is that Brighton are interested in signing him at around  £10M.

le10sport say the option to buy will be set at a massive €25M which Newcastle could execute next summer.

Maia started his career with Sao Caetano in Brazil and moved to Santos back in 2011.

He has played for the Brazilian U17, U20 and U23 sides and is very highly regarded in his homeland.

So we could soon have two top young Brazilians playing for Newcastle – Kenedy, and Maia – if this report from France is true.

Hope so.

Spanish federation president Luis Rubiales has said this morning that nufc wrote a letter to him offering Rafa for the World Cup:

What do you all reckon about giving some of the youngsters an opportunity this season? Good, bad, no choice but to do so?

Even if he has to panic spend in January Ashley has made it very clear to Rafa what his ambitions are. Feel a bit sorry for Moyes…

Lol, you can guess the rationale behind offering Rafa to Spain during the World Cup.

absolute scenes next summer when Rafa walks, and the club fails to sign any of the loan players they had (which for my bet will be about 4 by the end of the summer)
That said, theres alot to be optimistic about… Kenedy for a whole season, Dummett missed first half of last season and made a big impact when back, Dubravka for the whole season…Ki in the current moment is a better player than Merino (though merino has the potential to far surpass him in future) If Rondon and Muto get confirmed, both are better players than Mitrovic and Gayle not to mention Murphy, Lascelles, Yedlin after a rest will all be better players having played in the PL last year and will hopefully have improved further

@Ronaldo Aarons – always for the idea of giving youngsters a chance but I don’t think currently there are any Youngsters anywhere near having the ability for a future in the first team. Woodman aside,Armstrong is probably at current the best hope of a top level career and he seems to be the level of too good for league one but not that effective in the championship…

    Luis Rubiales

I can’t imagine that they offered Rafa behind his
    back .
If they did , and Rafa knows about it
what does that tell you ?

Wants to be closer to his girl friend and baby.

I take it the girl friend will not move to be with him in Newcastle.

Yeah Ive always been for playing youth but I do feel it will be a case of having to play them. It can be good that they are given the opportunity but it is a little bitter still because it will be down to rafa not being backed properly.

I think though, it is hard to judge younger players. Some play better with better players so have levels higher than what they have shown so far, some go from strength to strength, some admittedly are average and show that. I’ve been a fan of Longstaff coming through at cm. Always thought Sterry could do a job on the occasions I saw him but injuries have hampered his progress.

Its like in recent seasons, Abeid never really stood out but did very well with us in the team. Mbabu too, though he never had a proper run and injuries cut him short. Carroll never looked good at youth level, did poor on loan but got better and better with his opportunity. I saw Harry Kane a couple times when he was out on loan and I remember say this kid is poor. Got an opportunity around better players and just got better and better.

Guess I am saying that if it does come to giving the younger ones an opportunity, we could come across a good one who will turn out to be very useful. Dummett was not exactly a top youngster himself and now he is pretty much a mainstay.

Max Meyer for free should be a priority for our number 10 but as normal the club is seriously behind the times recruiting.

Jay photo there’s a line in the John Cleese film Clockwise when in response to being told not to despair he says “It’s not the despair that’ s killing me it’s hope. Despair I can take.” This was Ashley’s biggest error in appointing Rafa, he accidently created some hope that things might get better. Still you’re right, potentially better first team than last year so a good last season with Rafa (as long as we don’t get 2 or 3 injuries).

@Kilkline and @seasons, I thought that as he’s no doubt an outstanding talent but the more I read about him, the more he sounds like Ravel Morrison… He’s the type of player we’d previously snap up and he’d be disruptive etc. After me saying that, he’ll probably win POTY!

I said before that loaning longstaff to portsmouth is pointless, he’s already been to league 1 and did well at blackpool. If he was to be loaned, it had to be higher level that league 1.

Wonder if Nicky the ball tosser has an explanation as to where the profits are going this season. How anyone could think Ashley isn’t pocketing millions out of the club is beyond me. Look at West Ham, Fulham, Wolves, Palace, Everton etc… Tell me we can’t compete with these clubs financially.

The whole thing about 10 million for Hayden, that started on a completely unreliable regurgitating website without any sources of their own except other websites and twitter. Taken out of thin air. If we even get 5 million for Hayden I would chop their arm off. Come to think of it I would take a leg as well.

    @raisbeck10
Newcastle right back Jamie Sterry speaking to @bbcnewcastle yesterday: “I feel I’m good enough to be in the team and hopefully I’ll prove people wrong. I feel I’m getting experience and I’d like to get more and play in the first-team.” #NUFC

Quite the man apparently to make the trip in his wee currach and going direct without even stopping over in Greenland like Leif did.
Then to make the return trip and tell everyone about it, quite something. Bet he drank Guinness.

Last week of transfer window and Charnley only knows the “best of the worst” on his list. Having to try to figure out who is good enough to bring in for LeJuene is adds a whole new list of maybe “quality” players. Finding the best of the cheapest of the lot in relation to ability is likely too taxing for his weary head at this stage. So don’t look for any help coming in soon.

The one concern with Max Meyer is that he has an attitude problem – thinks too much of himself. Why hasn’t any other clubs gone for him

Just woke up 6am here, from the previous thread. Sorry, how can we be priced out of a move for Nicolas Tagliafico? 8 Million for an Argentine international, 8 Mill for an international player now days isn’t something you ever hear of, this is nuts that the idiots running the club cannot see 8 Mill as a bargain add this to Meyer talking to Palace for a free agent is making me wonder if we actually have real people running the club or the cast of the muppets. After heavy forensic research, I can without a shadow of doubt let the fans know that I have found proof it’s the muppets. Charney can be clearly seen in this video with Mike Ashley. I don’t believe that Rafa would turn down the chance to sign Maia. Him, a LB, an AMC and a CB is all we need if we are swapping Gayle for Rondon

I bet Rafa is seriously peeved about allowing himself to be duped in to not only saving the fat man’s bacon but making him a shed load of money at the same time.
