Newcastle should be announcing the signing of striker Yoshinori Muto before the end of this week with all the details tied up as he waits for his work permit.
But with the transfer of Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham yesterday for an initial £22M, there should be some additional money for Rafa to spend – but it will not be the full£22M, which will be paid in yearly installments by Fulham.
Newcastle still need another striker brought in – which looks to be Salomon Rondon from West Brom (how many times have we written that this summer?) and we must get a left back in to cover for Paul Dummett and give him some competition.
24-year-old Joe Bryan of Bristol City – a target?
Also, we need another center-back brought in after we have lost Florian Lejeune through a severe ACL knee injury for most of the season.
So a center-back, striker, and left-back are still needed.
And that has to be one net new striker so if Gayle is exchanged for Rondon we still need another striker brought in.
Newcastle have again been linked with the possibility of signing 24-year-old left-back Joe Bryan from Bristol City who has been a target for over a year now.
There’s also news today that Newcastle may be interested again in singing Club Brugge winger Anthony Limbombe after his proposed move to Huddersfield Town broke down.
The Terriers have turned their attention to Christian Atsu so there’s a possibility that Rafa could sell Atsu to help fund a move for the lightning fast Belgium winger.
There still seems to be transfer business Rafa still wants to complete in the next 9 days.
We have already signed Dubravka, Kenedy (loan), Sung-yueng, and Fabian Schar through the door and hope to have Muto signed this week from Mainz.
That’s five new players in so far.
Comments welcome.

Comment #2Heaps of clubs do plenty of “horse trading” late in the window of course, and we most certainly have done. We still have hope. But of course, it’s the hope that …..yada, yada, yada.

Comment #5I doubt Mutu will be training with us until the deal is finalised. If he should be injured while training I would suspect the deal would be off.

Limbombe for £11m to replace Atsu
Would love for us to show a tiny bit of ambition and go for Josh King but that is highly unrealistic

Comment #7Latest news is that Ashley has accepted Fulham proposal to pay for Mitro in instalments.
That way he gets all of the money eventually but Rafa can’t spend it all in one go so only gets a small part in a transfer window.
What’s the word I’m looking for ?

Forget Columbus the Viking’s got there first.
It was Leif Eriksson who discovered Newfoundland way before your guy turned up.
In fact it may even have been a Scot of Viking descent who stepped ashore first having sailed from what is now Greenland with Leif whose Dad was Erik the Red. Did you know him ?

Someone should have slapped Columbus, he’d have found it harder to be further away from India unless he was in space.

Comment #19Why do we need another centre back are we planning on selling Lascelles? Dummet is left sided centre back who has been playing LB he is not a LB fact. We have him, Clark and lascelles we should use or money where its needed most which is a LB and an upgrade on Yedlin who like Dummet at LB are liabilities. Id go for Tammy Abraham, Yuary Poulsen, Joe Bryan at LB and a good strong RB, Bruno Fernandes as playmaker

Comment #24New from Lee Ryder on NUFC recruitment:
Rafa Benitez still wants to add FOUR new players to his squad before deadline day.
It is understood that the Newcastle United boss has made his concerns crystal clear to managing director Lee Charnleyafter handing a wanted list to the hierarchy in the last few days.

Comment #26Don’t believe this crap about instalments. Of course this is standard procedure but we should be receiving the instalments from Sissoko, Wjinalfum sales so it should balance out! This is so much bullshit. What happened to “ every penny…. “ ?
If Rafa doesn’t get decent money it’s a disgrace! and what about the £124 million we are supposed to have received?
Shocking state of affairs! Is Ashley lining up a sale of NUFC or lining his pockets?

Colback,Mbemba,Merino,Hadaira,Gamez,Mitro and Sels.
7 players who between them only started 22 Premier League games for us last season.
7 players off the wage bill and 44 Million banked in tranfer fees.
You have to say things could not have gone better as far as ongoing players is concerned.
Rafa and the club did not want them to stay.
Actually things could get better if we shift Saviet and Lazaar as well.

Have to say there seems to be a trend. Many of our targets are :-
1) In the last year of their deal.
2) Have a buy out clause.
3) Play for clubs keen to sell as they have gone down etc.
Will that change in the last week.
One 35M striker target is all it would take to light a fire under the club.
As it has in the past.
Will he ever get that. Less likely the more time that goes by.

Comment #40just to put a contra argument, I would think every manager in the EPL are saying they want more players in and expressing a degree of dissatisfaction at the lack of them..
I suspect that if Rafa gets another couple of players in he”ll be very happy with the window.
Think he might be looking to use some of the youngsters a bit more as well to cover any deficiencies.
