Frustrations Boiling Over – Fans Deserve Rafa – Ashley Certainly Doesn’t – What’s Going On?

Rafa Benitez is once again frustrated at the Newcastle hierarchy who have not lived up to the promises they have given Rafa since he arrived in March 2016.

But that has not stopped Rafa from guiding Newcastle to two great seasons – getting promoted in first place in the Championship was his first full season.

And then even though Ashley handed Rafa very little money to spend last summer to improve the side, we still finished 10th in the Premier League last season – the second best showing ever since Ashley has owned the club.

Newcastle fans were all hoping that Mike Ashley would reward Rafa with some transfer funds this summer, but he’s received almost nothing.

And we are now struggling to manage the wealth of newly promoted clubs Fulham and Wolves in this transfer window – never mind the other Premier League clubs.

Rafa Benitez  – conducts training in Portugal

And now on the transfer side of things, there’s news that Salomon Rondon’s release clause of £16.5M ran out at the end of last month so West Brom can demand even more for their striker.

This deal has dragged on and what’s probably happened is the hierarchy did not want to pay £16.5M for a player who could be a free agent next summer.

Again it’s Ashley unwillingness to spend the club’s money that is causing the most recent problems for Rafa Benitez.

But he must now know that unless Mike Ashley sells the club, it’s always going to be this way – it’s been this way for 11 long years.

We know Rafa wanted to lead Newcastle to greater things – but he ‘s simply not getting the support he needs.

In fact, he’s getting the opposite – he’s being obstructed by the owner.

Why Mike Ashley cannot simply spend the money the club must have – we don’t know – other than he’s an obstinate character.

The best we can hope for is that Rafa honors his contract through next June and then he will leave the club.

We just can’t believe Mike Ashley has been so stupid and obstinate since he signed Rafa Benitez.

Rafa’s done everything right – the hierarchy have done almost everything wrong.

And Rafa’s frustrations are starting to boil over.

Who can blame him?

He should leave Newcastle next summer – for his own good.

While the fans definitely deserve to have a manager as good as Rafa Benitez – Mike Ashley doesn’t.

The situation is not good at the moment – and that’s a massive understatement.

Comments welcome.

Last week of transfer window and signs of total collapse. This is where Charnley does his work. Not a decent body available, and NUFC have missed out on the “best of the worst”, leaving the well priced “not good enough’s” to chose from. He will get into buying if he has time after working at selling off the dross.

WBA have a real dilemma now.
With the release clause in place £16.5m was Rondon’s value.
If they think they’re going to get more now that the release clause has expired then they’re in for a surprise. Ashley certainly won’t spend more and I doubt if anyone else will either. If anything they might get £10m on a take it or leave basis but the player wants away and they need the money before the transfer season ends and the season starts.

    Another Mexican stand off.

Beeguy@1 – Charnley may already be on the case, although this time with another promising 19year old ?

L’Equipe are reporting Rafa Benitez’s side have entered talks with Lyon about signing Myziane Maolida.

Cannot see us getting a deal gone in the last eight days – tskez is about a month to get a deal done….
Rafa – want him to speaks to charmless
Charmless – I’ll have to speak to Barnes
Barnes – fee a bit to high I think better speak to the owner
Owner – Out the country for two weeks sailing the Atlantic – how convenient

Everyone understands that the club shop at St James’ is in fact SD, right? Check the receipts. Bobby, you’ve said that SD havent had your money for years yet you bought a kids kit there recently. I appreciate you might not have known this at the time, but this is how Ashley works. Money any football fan would think is going back in to the club is going straight into his beloved SD

Kennedy had permission to be away for the birth.
Also these days there’s something called Paternity Leave.
It’s not to be confused with the new Government backed scheme Ashley Leave.

Doesn’t matter who we bring in now. They will be last choice or not on the list at all and we will find ourselves in 12 months time attempting to flog them on loan as no one else will touch them due to wages. You’d have thought that after 6 years of this method, all of the relegation battles, and lost money, that they would consider actually paying market value for players who justify it.

As always, too little too late.

Has anyone seen our 1st 5 games this season, we will be lucky to get point via Cardiff on paper. We have been saying this for the past decade that the owner needs to go, he won’t budge unless he is paid off with a profit.
All we can do as fans is support our great club and manager in these dark times and hope and prey that these well paid players play above their levels.
I expect us to be in the bottom three, I expect the pressure will always be on the manager, I also have learned to expect no serious money will be invested in our team with this owner in charge. We can either support or club or stay away from St James’s. Ashley will not be here for ever, all we can do is hope and prey its not for another 10 years ?.

Rangers have just lost a legal dispute with Ashley over replica kit sales. It’s cost them £500,000 in legal fees in the process.

They earn 7pence in the pound on the kit.
You know who gets the rest or most of it without knowing the exact breakdown.

I don’t get all the fuss, fans have flocked into SJP for years under MA to watch budget football. Everyone knows how the club is run.
You either go or you don’t.
SD protests? How pathetic! If you don’t like the football don’t watch it.
It is very frustrating for us as fans but MA is providing a service “a game to watch ”
He’s doing enough to keep us up unfortunately his lack of clout has taken us down twice. Boycotts are the only way to get change.
    It won’t ever happen. So??

I think Ashley is wary of apointing hugely popular managers after keegan and offering him to spain was a way of terminating the contract without facing the sort of protests he got after Keegan.

I thought the last three seasons our spend was acceptable, especially as Ashley said he’d not pump his own money in which is fair enough. McClaren got a big amount, We spent a lot going down considering we were losing money, and last season so so-so because of the previous years losses – all acceptable. But as things stand and look to be, this season MA cannot claim he is ‘spending every penny.’There should be 40-50m to spend on top of transfers. Ashley needs to explain why he’s withholding the cash.

As I said earlier there are only a few reasonable explanations.
    1) the cash is available but charnley has been too slow (small chance)
    2) the cash is available and will be spent (very unlikely now)
    3) ashley will use the money to pay off his debts and sell club (likely)
    4) ashley will use the money on academy (small chance)
    5) ashley is keeping the money to entice the next manager (likely)
    6) there isnt any money (zero chance)

3 & 5 seem the only realistic options

Going to France in a couple of days, stopping at a place that has no internet and mobile signal, so will miss out on the final days of the transfers. At least it will stop me stressing everyday over things not happening at my beloved club.

Hope everybody on this site gets their signings and Ashley offers Rafa a contract he can’t refuse.

Will miss this site and Dr Ed for a whole two weeks. Now looking for books to read to past the time.
