Rafa Close To Signing Striker – After Failing In January Window

Get French Football are reporting on L’Equipe’s report today that Newcastle want to sign 19-year-old striker Myziane Maolida of Lyon.

Maolida made his debut for Lyon last season, and the 5ft 11ins tall forward played 22 times with 3 goals for Lyon in all competitions.

The youngster has played for all the French Youth Sides through U19 level, and at the U19 level, he scored 9 goals in 19 appearances.

He started his career at AC Boulogne-Billancourt and then moved to Lyon four years ago and has come through their Youth Academy.

Rafa wants to sign 19-year-old striker Myziane Maolida of Lyon

According to L’Equipe Newcastle are currently in negotiations with Lyon to bring the teenager to Newcastle where he will be part of the first team squad.

The player wants first-team playing time at whatever club he goes to, so if Rafa signs him, he must be ready to play in the Magpies first team.

Rafa Benitez did try to sign him in the January transfer window but was turned down.

At the time Rafa wanted to boost the goalscoring prowess at Newcastle – so it looks like the manager rates the teenager.

Here’s a tweet from Get French Football as reported today in the Chronicle.

We would think he’ll be one for the future at Newcastle but of course, we need players who can score goals for us next season.

Whether this lad can have that kind of impact may be debatable.

His contract at Lyon still has four years to run.

Wonder if the teenager is a replacement for Salomon Rondon whose £16.5M release clause ran out at the end of July in his West Brom contract.

Back in January Lyon rated Maolida at £4M and aso he could be attractive to the Newcastle hierarchy becasue it’s less than  £16.5M.

What do you think?

@ martoon one thing France is not short of is a McDonald’s, my grandson can’t go a few days without his chicken nuggets . Will use their internet to make my seasons predictions wouldn’t miss doing that and thanks for making time to comply all the stuff needed to get everybody’s predictions recorded.

You could add ‘ month that Rafa walks or sacked’

@ martoon it’s guaranteed as he is out of work, he did take us to the dizzy heights of 5th, enough of this mischief. Wouldn’t want him anywhere near our club.

He looks quick and skilful this young French kid. Difficult to judge properly on Youtube clips so I’m going to reserve judgement and wait to see what Jesper thinks.

Appears we are in for a couple of 19yr olds I would hazard a guess that they are Ashley’s preferred buys so he can make a profit on them.

Why attempt to buy a 19 yr old leftback for half a Mil less and has only played one first team game than a experienced Argentina full back who is a full international. Totally baffled at what’s going on.

Same old story… purchase someone with a bit of potential with the hopes of getting a big sell on fee in the future. This team needs a solid striker for the next 3-4 years. In that time we can start to buy players like this and let them develop and not carry the load on their shoulders. Mitro should have been given the same chance. He was expected to be our main striker and when he wasn’t a 15+ goal scorer in his first season he was labeled a flop.

Nothing to complain about anymore, this is just the usual…

Doesn’t look like Muto is the kind of striker who scores worldies on a regular basis, but he does appear to have that knack that poachers share – right place right time.
Play to his strengths and keep knocking balls to him and he has the chance to post some impressive figures this season. I guess we’ll see.

More cut price bargain basement ooh lets make a profit on this one shit AGAIN. I keep checking hoping not to see but expecting the headlines of Rafa has gone !
My opinion of Rafa was massive but now he is a GOD putting up with GREEDY COCK-ney Fatman for this long. I wish he would venture out for a pint now like he did once before. He would get hung !

Think Muto will fill the hard working forward role because frankly right now I consider our squad with 0 strikers. None that are anywhere good enough for the Premier league anyway.

Joselu is simply poor and Gayle’s attitude has really looked poor last season- he wasn’t good but then when he dived v Man City instead of even trying I lost all confidence in him.
