We were linked with a move for 19-year-old Lyon striker Myziane Maolida yesterday and the Mirror are reporting today the striker could be on his way to Newcastle.
L’Equipe yesterday reported that Newcastle were in negotiations for the young striker and we are reported to be close to a deal for him.
Maolida had a very good tournament at the Euro U19 Championship this summer and Lyon could be ready to sell the 19-year-old after they have signed 18-year-old striker Reo Griffiths from Tottenham Hotspur.
19-year-old Lyon striker Myziane Maolida
The youngster wants more first-team playing time and Rafa Benitez had an offer turned down for him in January.
Since then we have been .linked with the forward so it seems the manager rates the player and as far as the fee goes he was valued at around £4M in January.
Rafa Benitez wants four or five players signed in the next week of this summer’s transfer window.
That will be difficult since it’s taken Newcastle all summer to sign the five players we have brought into the club so far.
But we can still hope that Mike Ashley may start spending some money in the next week.
That’s the hope.
Rafa also seems to be in the dark about any signings as the frustrated manager had this to say after our 4-0 defeat at SC Braga on Wednesday night:
“I said what I had to say on transfers two months ago, we’ll see what the next 10 days bring,”
“I have no idea. I have no idea how close we are to anyone.”
Myziane Maolida would be a good acquisition if we can get him.
Comments welcome.

On the grounds that he is being undermined in the transfer market. Surely when he signed his deal there was at least some control over the way funds were spent.

A manager on £500K per month can claim
constructive dismissal because the club didn’t
buy every player he asked for.

Comment #4I was just reading The Mag and somebody is typing up the moniker Toontaff. Surely it’s not our ‘toontaff2’
It will be good to see Tsunki back next weekend when the PL football returns, on that note.

I have my doubts. Not nearly enough commas for it to be toontaff2, but you never know. ^_^

Comment #7I’ve read those comments by Yorkymag.
I take it this way.
He is not having a go at Rafa.
He is simply saying that this situation between owner and manager cannot go on.
What follows it. Well, we’ve been there before.

Comment #8Would be very happy with this. Far more inspiring than Rondon. In fact Maolida, N’Soki and Julien would be great.
The only thing I do agree with Ashley is getting in youngsters, although my motives are totally different to the fat man’s.
Another day Jib still defending Ashley. As predictable as a predictable thing.

Comment #10Thing I don’t get. With the right set up you can make a fortune trading in players.
Look at Maguire.
Southampton did it well for a while.
Even liverpool – Coutinho.
Billy Big Balls is supposed to like a gamble.

Comment #11Madmag (well named, by the way)
It was during the January window when we were in the Championship. You may recall Bishop’s PR line was that Rafa had done magnificently but it was time to cut out the “whingeing” and get on with the job. Lo and behold, up popped somebody with a couple of neatly-paragraphed posts peddling the Bishop line. Said poster never to be seen again.
Do you seriously think PR companies don’t exploit social media?

Comment #13The rumours surrounding Zaha are gaining some real traction. The chances of Andros Townsend making a return are bleak… not that Ashley would sanction the 18/19 million it would take to buy him anyway.

Comment #15Jail, no chance of constructive dismissal ! Ashley would lose because he has just shipped out some dross and is trying to ship more ( some signed by Rafa, so his own fault essentially) and has just brought him a 10mill striker who got game time in the world cup. Nope , no chance of Rafa winning that one .

Comment #19Rotunda I agree. It looks like Ashley wont spend 15mill on any player, so lets hope Rafa can keep picking up some quality end of season bargains and talented young guys. If we keep sharp at the 18-21 age range, and hopefully spot guys with a bit of maturity, ashley will sanction these buys and rafa can develop them. Its not an ideal scenario but Ashley is wedded to the “french” model so we might as well work with it if we cant dislodge Ashley or force his hand through protests etc

Comment #26watched him play in Vaasa Finland on the 23th of July, best player on the field, they played England and wiped the floor with them. He was one of the 2 stand out players of that game. Hope we are serious about him, a very good player and played well in a very disciplined team.
