The Only Hope For Newcastle Fans – Ashley Leaves Before Rafa Walks Out

Fans were hoping that Rafa Benitez would get some money to spend this summer, have a good transfer window and then sign a new long-term contract to stay at Newcastle United maybe five years or even ten years.

But none of that has happened and we suppose we shouldn’t be too surprised as owner Mike Ashley has again decided not to spend Newcastle’s money in yet another transfer window.

You have to remember that we got £123M from the Premier League and so the excuse he had last summer as a newly promoted side with little money to spend – doesn’t make sense anymore.

Rafa Benitez – after beating Chelsea 3-0 and finishing 10th in Premier League

And not only that but two of the clubs promoted from the Championship this summer – Wolves and Fulham – have ambitious owners and both clubs are easily outspending Newcastle.

We had all hoped that Ashley would sell up last year when Amanda Staveley was interested.

But we wonder when Ashley puts the club up for sale – he’s done that three times – is he really trying to sell the club or is it simply a PR stunt?

It seems like it’s the latter.

So where are we now?

Almost back in the dark ages because unless Ashley sells the club we have given up all hope that he will be civil to Rafa Benitez and support him in making Newcastle United into a top club in Europe.

Ashley wants to have Newcastle as a Premier League club and spend as little money as possible doing that – in a nutshell, that’s the total ambition of the owner.

Rafa will know that now – if he hadn’t already worked it out.

It’s just not going to happen and Rafa will leave when his three years deal is up next June if nothing changes before that.

So we have to hope that Mike Ashley leaves before Rafa walks out next summer.

That’s our only hope.

If it’s the other way round we are definitely back in the dark ages.

Comments welcome.

I have no candle to burn for Ashley
    But he owns the club
If I or for that matter anyone behaved the way Rafa has in a work place where you are paid member of staff ,I thing it would only be reasonable to expect not to last too long
Rafa is a paid member of staff with a clear job to do ,get on and do it ,would not be unreasonable comment from the owner.
If you don’t want to agree to the terms on offer go somewhere else again would not be unreasonable
I am sure Ashley has broken promises and is difficult to deal with ,I think at £6 m a year you would expect a challenge to two
Rafas behaviour in the last two weeks is unacceptable,my hunch he is trying to get sacked so as not to have to pay out his contract
I think if Rafa had the values of king kev he would have walked but he is now more concerned with his own finances than principle
I want Ashley gone but it takes two to tango and Rafa is at fault

Seriously, are you suggesting it might not be part of Rafa’s job to recruit players?

One article in the Mirror which is totally fake news and the doubters come out from their dark holes and slag off the best manager we have had since KK!
It makes me sick to think anyone who calls himself a supporter would give Ashley one shred of credit!
Well, Rafa will surely be gone soon and we shall sink back to the obscurity of the Championship and you will have your way! Losers!

    No not at all
I think it should but we don’t know what has been agreed that’s my only point
I don’t like the way Ashley runs the club one bit
But Rafa is too clever a man and manager to be hood winked ,maybe he thought he could change him
The one thing Ashley has been is consistent, yes I agree consistently, and then add as many adjectives as you like ,but consistent .
Rafa has come up against a moe stubborn and irrational man and there is only one winner
    The Boss

You are not a “fruit loop” (whatever that is). You have put forward a cogent, plausible argument that most posters – including me – disagree strongly with. But you don’t deserve the vacuous insults that are being thrown around here.

What was the real story behind the Gayle to WBA carry on.

The way I read it is that the “negotiators” offered Gayle behind Rafas back to sweeten the Rondon deal.

We have Rafa later declaring he didn’t want to see Gayle leave, I find it difficult to believe that Rafa would say this if he had been party to trying to get rid of him.

Suggests to me, time date now, that in effect everybody at the club is up for sale (at the right price) and that Rafa has no control/input over this aspect of “footballing matters”.

The big issue here is the lies and promises from Ashley is making Rafa look stupid, Rafa will go at the end of the season so we the fans must make it known when Rafa goes we will not re-new our season tickets. 45000 emails to NUFC to be sent this week or to the Mirror newspaper.

I worked in a industry and factory were directors and managers had there disagreements. People came and went. But the big difference hear is the product was not affected. Always quality produced. This is not happening at newcastle. Product is getting worse.I suppose Ashley doesn’t care and he does not have to answe to shareholders. Basic ky he could not care less about fans what so ever

Cashley has directed his attention to the House of Fraser bail out by offering a £70m loan.He has a 11% share in company. This is why the club are getting nowt. Retail over football thats what he is about.
