Rondon Deal Very Close – Could Be Announced Today

BBC Sports are announcing that the Rondon deal to take the Venezuelan striker to Newcastle is almost a done deal and some reports are saying it could even be announced today.

Here are some of tweets that the deal is very close and even on BBC Radio 5 broadcast of the friendly with Augsburg this afternoon the announcers said the deal looks like it’s going to go through.

This is good news because we looked paper-thin up front in the friendly today and we missed two r three chances in the first half – as we write this it’s 1-0 to Augsburg.

Salomon Rondon – finally joining Newcastle

With Muto in and Rondon coming in (hopefully) that will give us two new strikers but we probably need another striker so we can convert the chances the side creates.

Newcastle lost a poor game this afternoon to Augsburg 1-0 conceding a second-half goal although we never played our full side.

Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka was left out of the squad with a slight knock.

The weakness was again up front and this is the third game running we haven’t been able to score a goal.

We looked like puff-pastry up front this afternoon.

Comments welcome.

Stream off NUFC site died right when Cal Roberts came on. Could never get live feed back, assume match over long ago…

Improvements needed for next week. Been a poor preseason overall – but no suprise there with no intention made to improve the team. So we need 3 more first 11 upgrades in the next week. No chance.

Whilst not exactly jumping for joy – he has to be better (or at least offer something more) than Hoser and Gayle

Don’t know why people are so against N’Soki and Maolida coming in. 19 or 20 isn’t too young any more. M’Bappe first appeared at 17, admittedly a very special talent. But look at the cricket today, sam Curran just turned 20 virtually won the game for England. if you’re good enough and have a winning mentality you’re old enough.

Well well, what a coincidence – Nicky, Jib and Jane appeared on an earlier thread and in consecutive posts.

Being the Ashley champions’ team leader, there was Jib tutoring Nicky in the finer points of using abusive language when he strayed off script.

If that’s all the Ashley cheer leaders have in their locker, gawd help them when Bishop gets wind of it.

muto/rondon seems to be better than gayle/joselu

muto and rondon were both linked to chelsea in the past

no one would link gayle/joselu to chelsea with a straight face

Are some of our fans really against signing the two French lads?

Or could it be that they see first team signings as a priority over young lads for the future?

Frustrating we won’t be able to see our best 11 kick off against Spurs – when we absolutely should be. This will be what is frustrating Rafa no end. Economic decisons being made that will essentially mean we have a far greater chance of being beaten in the first game than if we had had everyone in, up to speed and ready for the game.

I have been keeping quiet on transfers waiting for the window to end, but if Rondon will be the final piece of business, I truly fear for this season.

Extremely difficult opening fixtures will lead to some very difficult times ahead.

I don’t remember the side losing any friendlies last summer, the only win I can recall this summer was a dismal display against St. Patrick’s. I had no such worries last summer and predicted a 10th place finish, but this time it looks and feels very different going into a new season.

My personal outlook; I am going to just try and be patient for the first 8 games of the season. Don’t be expecting too much.

The club’s seemingly got no money for players, the live streaming’s not up to the job and people wonder why Rafa’s in despair at the lack of investment in a club that’s falling to bits around him.

No surprise though as Ashley doesn’t appear to do quality.

that’s my whole point, I wouldn’t have them just for the future. 19 / 20 is not too young these days. Admittedly they would never progress under a Pardew but under Rafa they could be immense.

Interesting if true that the likes of Chelsea and inter were after Rondon.

if rondon signs ( hopefully he does ) … give the bloke a chance … we know he’s not prolific in front of goal his game is about power pace bringing other players into the game with his hold up play … one more striker in with him and muto be it a young kid on the rise … plus a number 10 … oh nearly forgot we need another centre back with Lejeune being injured …

At risk of being called a doom merchant, those first few fixtures could see us in deep doo doo.

If Rafa’s down and the players he’s got available to are demotivated by Ashley pushing back against the player incentive scheme, Rafa’s got a job on his hands to keep us out of the first half of the season’s bottom relegation spots.

Another fine mess of Ashley’s making.

On way home – we were actually very unlucky to lose. We played well but couldn’t score – normal problem. They only had about 4 or 5 attacks and scored when Shar came on – not sure about him. Kenedy looked good when he came on.

Very little mention of Muto, with all the Rondon news coming through.
Just wondered if people see him playing up front with Rondon, or instead of Perez?
Doubt Rafa would ever play all 3 up top, unless we were desperately trying to pull a goal back.

Yup – it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Be prepared to have Ashley’s cheerleaders on your case – when they get back from the match, of course.

spurs, cardiff, chelsea, city, arsenal, palace, Leicester, man u, brighton, southampton
    those are first 10 games

could be in a tough position at the end of sept but with rafa he will keep us tight so we might lose a few games but we wont get a thrashing that said i still think we will pick up a few points like we did last season against the top teams

proper tough start for us this season

Fingers crossed that Rafa doesn’t crack and he manages to keep the players moral up. He’s a bloody good motivator and must hope we avoid any injuries to key players.

As you say, Rafa’ll have no choice but to play defensive games to avoid defeat and yes, we may just steal some desperately needed points from some of the top teams – probably in the second half of the season.

Palace had a terrible start and still finished even with us on points. Thing is with Zaha they have a match winner in their squad. Our team needs to play perfect to get the points – and this is why Rafa is our match winner.

Will say, even though it was a brief appearance and with rust – Kenedy is a different class than the rest of our current attackers. Maybe if he can get service to Rondon – we can get some goals.
