Newcastle Finally Complete Rondon Loan Signing – That Didn’t Take Long

Newcastle have finally announced that we have taken Salmon on loan for the season.

Rafa has wanted him since last May and Newcastle have finally got their man with just three full days remaining in the transfer window.

Rondon will wear the number 9 shirt previously worn by Dwight Gayle who today joined West Brom on loan.

The Newcastle website added this:

Newcastle United are delighted to confirm the signing of striker Salómon Rondón on a season-long loan from West Bromwich Albion.

As part of the deal to secure Rafa Benitez’s number one transfer target, Dwight Gayle moves in the opposite direction and will remain on loan with the Baggies for their 2018/2019 Championship campaign.

Rondon joins fellow summer arrivals Martin Dubravka, Kenedy, Ki Sung-yueng, Fabian Schar and Yoshinori Muto as the club further strengthens Rafa Benítez’s squad, which finished tenth last season.

New loan signing Salomon Rondon – notice how Sports Direct had to be in the picture

Salomon said this after his signing:

“It’s an honor to be here and I’m excited to get started with my teammates.”

“The clubs were talking for a long time and now I’m focused on the season to help my teammates to get the points to do well this season.”

“It’s one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League and I knew about the interest of the gaffer, so I’m happy to be here.”

Newcastle United manager, Rafa Benitez, added this:

“I am delighted to sign Salomon.”

“When we were looking for options up front, we knew how important experience would be. Salomon has been in the Premier League for a while and he knows how demanding it is.”

“He, together with Yoshinori Muto, will give us different options and will improve the competition between the strikers, which is always positive for the team.”

It’s good to get Rondon signed – now for two or three more players signed in the final three full days of this transfer window.

Comments welcome.

Season long Loan is ok with me, I would think we have the option to buy him after the loan period, if he dosn’t perform he dosn’t get signed, simples.

Spoke to Jamaal Lascelles on Saturday who revealed Salomon Rondon is the most physical striker he’s faced in the Premier League.

PSG have enquired for left-back Ricardo Rodriguez (AC Milan); he is 1 of 4 names that Les Parisiens continue to pursue in his position as Nsoki looks like he will be leaving the club before the transfer window shuts

How do you think that we will use Rondon?

A lone forward forced to feed on scraps,

or will there be attacking wing play putting in crosses for him to challenge?

Demba ba isn’t actually a bad comparison to be honest in terms of style, just doesn’t have ba’s goal scoring.

Can’t help but feel there’s a subliminal message in the video put out by the club for rondon. Lists all our signings then highlights DONE in #ronDONE. Hmm.

Has Benitz lost it, ? what strikers, ? he’s chased them, to call Joselu one, is an insult to Macdonald, Shearer and Andy Cole.
As for experience – you can have all the experience in the world, but if can’t perform when required it counts for nothing.

The NUFC right side is a big worry. Atsu and Aarons (we will likely never see him again) have become too negative. Murphy not growing into the position. Ritchie works & works, but it all comes to naught.Could Roberts or Fernandez step in, or are they too raw?

We could do with a fast winger too. I’d re-sign Ben Arfa or Marveaux.
