The Chronicle are reporting today that manager Rafa Benitez is hoping to follow up the Salomon Rondon loan signing – expected to be announced today – with 19-year-old PSG left-back Stanley N’Soko in a permanent deal.
We have our doubts that PSG will let the teenager leave after he has looked very impressive playing for the PSG first team this summer.
But if we can sign him permanently he will be a terrific acquisition for us and will immediately challenge Paul Dummett for that left-back starting position.
PSG French left-back Stanley N’Soko
It seems the teenager wants to join Rafa in the Premier League at Newcastle, although the fee has not yet been agreed.
But earlier reports last week from the French press suggested Newcastle had offered PSG €7M up front with €4M of potential add-ons.
So with the add-ons, that’s close to £10M (£9.8M) – a very decent fee for an untested 19-year-old.
Ajax’s 25-year-old Argentine International Nicolas Tagliafico (8 full caps) is also a possibility to come in this week.
Ajax want £8M for him (plus an agent’s fee), so how is that too much for Newcastle to pay – which is what’s being reported.
Rafa is also after a center-back to fill in for Florian Lejeune who could miss most of the season with a serious ACL knee injury.
Let’s hope we can get players in that Rafa wants before Thursday night – it’s the least he deserves.
Comments welcome.

Comment #3N’Soki is equally as good a CB as a LB…especially in a 3 at the back. He’d be a complete CB if he was a couple inches shorter but his pace would see him be a good tactical alternative at CB against players like Vardy! If we sign him that’ll be our CB search over I think! Interesting to see who makes way if we do take him, as he wants to move for first team football so imagine he’d want some guarantees of playing time.

Comment #4If we end the transfer window having bought in Dubravka, Schar, N’Soki, Ki, Kenedy, Muto and Rondon, is that a good window? Makes our side significantly stronger than 12 months ago so its weird that it feels we haven’t even tried..

There has been a few interviews in that Rafa has said about wanting a squad where he could change tactics easily!? So this boy could be moved to a left wing back with Dummett a 3rd CB?
A couple of games where we got murdered last season (Watford twice and another team) was against 3 at the back until we changed to a system that matched them but it was too late in the game by then!
Would allow us to play Muto and Rondon up top if we played that formation although not sure where it would leave Kennedy and Richie if we played it?

Could be the lateness of their arrival. Some will have had little time in pre-season.

Comment #7@Lee Charnley – Could more likely see Kenedy as a wing back in a 3-4-1-2 and N’Soki moving into outside centreback. If we sign him, i’d be very surprised to see him and Dummett on the field at the same time unless we are playing out for time. Kenedy has played as a wingback alot really effectively.
Im most interested to see where Muto fits in. To all accounts in Germany he absolutely can’t play as a 10, has a played as a wide forward here and there but ultimately is a striker that plays up top on his own, not seen him play much tbh but German pundits seem to have him down as a Japanese Jamie Vardy in style without the goals…

Comment #10Kenedy at wingback would make sense also because it would mean Rafa could seamlessly go from 4-2-3-1 to 3-4-1-2 or 3-4-2-1 without making a substitute as the LB would have the tactical ability to move into a back 3, Kenedy would drop into wing back and Yedlin would move forward into wing back. The ability to shift into formations fluidly like that will probably see us quite successful against teams with better players but lesser managers (thinking West Ham, leicester etc) Its actually where I think England came unstuck at the WC as Belgium, Croatia and Colombia all changed systems 2 or 3 times per game and Southgate was really slow to react to it which saw england dominate early minutes and then lost at sea in the 2nd half of games despite having far stronger players

Yeah there is some games where Rafa just might not be able to change it effectively I feel we have a slightly stronger squad than last season with the likes of Ki and Rondon who could make an impact if coming off the bench as well!
Yeah I have seen Muto compared to Vardy as well mind you Vardy only started scoring properly in the big leagues 2 or 3 seasons ago so Muto could be ready for his shot at the big time !
Always a feeling of what might have been with Rafa under Ashley if we got more of the 1st and 2nd choices wouldn’t be surprised if we gatecrashed the top 4 or won a cup

We have strengthened significantly from last year. I think the great deal of anger comes from the lateness of their arrival as ron said. I also feel angry because given the amount of tv money we received and the revenue from player sales I think we should have done so much better. We have no marquee signings and the likes of Rondon and Muto aren’t exactly inspiring (although I am quietly confident about Muto). I think we all hoped to sign Kenedy permanently, as well as bringing in a marquee striker and number 10 which obviously haven’t happened.
We have done business but I feel we could have done so much more – there is no reason why we couldn’t have shown similar ambition to Fulham other than the greedy twat

Dwight Gayle has signed his season-long loan to West Brom this luchtime, according to Sky sources.
Sky Sports News await confirmation from both clubs on the swap deal that would see Salomon Rondon joining Newcastle.
Rondon had his medical on Tyneside yesterday. We understand Newcastle will pay a £2m loan fee for their part of the deal. There is no obligation to buy.
Glad there’s no obligation to buy. See how it pans out…

I sense you’re looking for a historical argument going back to Pardew times.
I have no intention of obliging you in that.
All I have to say, which I’ve said before, is that consistency is not your strong point and you are, in political terminology, a flip-flopper.

Comment #20I think we haven’t had the best window as all fans were expecting us to break the transfer record especially seeing the figures that we have received and the places we needed reinforced, and it’s understanable people are irritated by us not actually tying down good signings I mean the mclaren season we spent good money, wijnaldum, mitro thauvin all in access of 14m each yet this season hasn’t even came close to spending that on one player I think we have got smart players that fit our system, but I’m just begging praying that we can actually spend abit cash in the last few days getting some real quality in, me fat bastard would still be in profit even if he spent 30million in the last few days in 3/4 players then money after this season he will receive next summer won’t need much in

Comment #29I am a bit behind on the blog and news, but I read a few articles back that West Brom are getting Gayle—estimated worth of Gayle around £12 million—plus another £2 million on top, and in return Newcastle gets Rondon on loan for a season. What the ….? So basically £14 million for a season loan of Rondon who could then walk next summer. So we get Rondon whose wages are higher than Gayle’s; a player that would a free agent next summer anyway, plus Rondon will be 30 in 13 months!
What in God’s name is actually going on. It’s just never straight forward when it comes to Ashley, Bishop, and Charnley, is it. What a shifty bunch.
Obviously they are trying to wrangle something cunning to try and save a few bob, which as per usual, will end up costing the club more in the long run.

Only thing is he is one hell of an actor if that is true.

Comment #34Ed’s article didn’t state Gayle was going to West Brom on loan, which I just caught up on. Even so, how is £60,000 a week Rondon worth £2 million more over a season than Gayle is. Rondon may be in the last year of his contract, but that isn’t our problem.

Comment #36It seems like a brilliant deal for us, especially in comparison to paying £16m for an older striker. The way I think Ashley sees these loans is that he can fill the squad and reduce his asking price. By not spending 30m on kenedy and rondon it means the price is an extra 30m lower and the new chairman can come in and spend an extra 30m making him/ herself look more like a saviour. To us & to the team, it makes no difference if Kenedy is bought now under Ashley or next year under another chairman, but to Stavely or whoever it makes a huge difference that they are the one to be seen spending the money. Ashley knows that the new chairman will want to bring in ‘their’ players, and if its a big spending chairman they won’t want millions worth of deadwood they have to pay for.
