There is news coming in from L’Equipe journalist Bilel Ghazi – via his Twitter account – that Newcastle are still interested in signing 19-year-old Lyon striker Myziane Maolida.
The teenager has been withdrawn from the International Champions Cup game today at Chelsea.
The news is that Lyon say they do not want to lose the teenager, but it looks like Newcastle are keen on signing the youngster this week.
We were reported interested in the player last Friday by L’Equipe so it looks like Newcastle are now going after the striker.
19-year-old Lyon striker Myziane Maolida
Here’s the tweet by Bilel Ghazi of L’Equipe:
Newcastle discute toujours avec Lyon pour Myziane Maolida. L’attaquant était initialement retenu pour affronter Chelsea demain mais il a été remplacé, ce soir, dans le groupe par Amine Gouiri. L’OL espère toutefois garder son international français U19 @lequipe pic.twitter.com/0h3Os966EO

This is the translation of that tweet:
“Newcastle still in talks with Lyon for Myziane Maolida.”
“The striker was initially selected to face Chelsea tomorrow but was replaced tonight in the group by Amine Gouiri. ”
“OL hope, however, to keep this international French U19 player.”
Maolida had a very good tournament at the Euro U19 Championship this summer and Lyon could be ready to sell the 19-year-old after they signed 18-year-old striker Reo Griffiths from Tottenham Hotspur.
They must be close to a possible deal if they withdrew the teenager from today’s game.
We hope we can get Maolida through the door before Thursday night.
And we need another striker to fill in for Dwight Gayle who left for West Brom on loan yesterday.
