Newcastle center-back target Federico Fernandez is at Swansea City, but has let it be known this summer he would like to continue playing at the highest level.
The 29-year-old Argentina international was a loan target for Newcastle some weeks ago but Swansea turned that offer down and wanted a permanent deal and £10M for him.
WalesOnline today are reporting today that Swansea are ready to hold out for the full £10M from Newcastle – but they will not get it.
29-year-old Federico Fernandez of Swansea City
Newcastle are probably hoping that with the window closing tomorrow, Swansea may take a loan fee for the player rather than get nothing for him.
Then they could have a player who doesn’t want to be playing for Swansea in the Championship next season.
But there’s just no way Mike Ashley will give Rafa £10M to spend on a player who would probably not be a starter at Newcastle.
Fernandez played for Rafa Benitez at Napoli in the 2013-2014 season before he joined Swansea and he holds the Newcastle manager in the highest regard.
Frederico has played 32 times with 3 goals for Argentina and has lots of Premier League experience and he has played for Swansea 128 times in four seasons.
Rafa wants another central defender brought in to cover for the injured Frenchman Florian Lejeune – but time is starting to run out.
There are 31 hours left in this transfer window.

Comment #1We look so desperate right now it’s embarrassing. If somehow we can’t afford a kid for £2,5m how on earth are we gonna afford this guy!?

You weren’t just a bit harsh with the prick comment, you were being your usual arrogant and foul-mouthed self – though eminent psychologists would have a massive challenge to identify your true self. When will you get it into your inconsiderate and uncouth skull that there’s no place or need for your abusive language.
Assuming you remember it, don’t you, a many faceted poster, think the question you levelled at c-toon (‘I wonder who you really are?’) is a bit rich?
The old saying, ‘Physician heal thyself’ comes to mind – try it.
