Salomon Rondon Has Looked “Very Good” In Training This Week

Salomon Rondon signed for us on Monday and he is training with the Newcastle squad this week so he should get some playing time against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

If he doesn’t start the game we expect he will make his bow sometime in the second half.

It looks like he has already impressed captain  Jamaal Lascelles in training this week.

And Alan Shearer thinks Salomon can do very well at Newcastle – who are a more attacking side than West Brom are – so Alan thinks he will get more chances to score on Tyneside.

Salomon Rondon – has looked “very good” in training

The players not speaking to the press has ended today – after Jamaal Lascelles reported within the last hour the players’ bonus payments have been agreed after positive talks with the hierarchy.

That’s really good news.

This is what Jamaal has said about Rondon today as reported in the Chronicle:

“Rondon’s a very good signing – a very powerful player, fast, strong.”

“I didn’t play against West Brom away but when we played them at home, in terms of physicality, he’s probably one of the toughest strikers I’ve played against.”

“He’s strong, he can run in behind, he can win headers and he works hard for the team. He’s experienced in the Premier League.”

“So I think that’s going to give us a massive boost and since he’s been training with us he’s looked really good.”

That’s more good news from Jamaal who seems to be talking a lot to the press today – good for him.

🙂

As we have a terrible history of last day purchases I assume that’s our lot now?

Munster – you were saying ?
    Italian job
Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro could be on his way to Genoa on loan, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport with Premier League clubs baulking at the player’s asking price.
The Italian publication reports that Juve are demanding €20m (£18m) for the 25-year-old, with West Ham, Leicester City, Crystal Palace, Wolves and Newcastle United all previously reported as being interested.

With the transfer window closing tomorrow, the Serie A side’s CEO Giuseppe Marotta believes the possibility of a sale to an English team is now highly unlikely.

Well, it is clear now that bad publicity DOES make the bugger sweat. Its also very clear now that there ARE one or two people on this blog who do not like things that way, and are again trying to cause a rift, some by blaming the players over the binus row. Bladey keeps shouting about fans not having strong principles , but is also shouting against the players who DO have principles. The shoutey hypocrite.

Things are finally making Ashley uncomfortable. Dont let these few omelettes distract you.

If Spurs are playing a weakened team on Saturday then I’d throw Rondon into the thick of it and give him a start. Even if he only gets an hour or so it’ll be good for him. Muto can replace him with fresh legs against a tiring defence for the last half hour.

It’ll be interesting to see who starts against us at the weekend. It’s the perfect opportunity to get a point (or three) on the board and hit the ground running.

    Rob Lee’s comment:
“I look at our squad and it doesn’t even look as strong as last season’s.” “Are there goals in that team? Hopefully, yes, but I have my doubts.”

    Think I have to disagree.
We’ve added Dubrovka, Ki, Schar, Muto, Rondon and Kennedy for the whole season.
OK Lejeune is injured and there’s no direct new replacement but maybe the next 24 hours will change that ( or maybe not). Just hope that Clark’s fitness level is good.
Colback and others are not part of the squad.

Lascalles has them primed and ready to go.
All the stress of the last few weeks is history by Thursday night.
52,300 will be there on Saturday with a global TV audience.

The players had every right to kick up a fuss over the bonus payments. Why should they miss out on payments that every other team award their players too? If you don’t stand up to Ashley then he’ll walk all over you. Glad the lads were able to resolve it before the weekend.

Spanish outlet Sport claim Barcelona defender Marlon is heading to #NUFC on loan provided he can secure a work permit. The club will pay a fee of around €2m for the defender but won’t have a purchase option.

Totally agree. Players were completely in the right. Ashley was in line for a fine if it wasn’t sorted, and yet more negative publicity has unsettled him, not to mention a few obvious cohorts on here.

Surprised we haven’t shipped out one of Darlow or Elliot, neither are at the level required. If neither of them are going then you would have expected Woodman to go out on loan again.

The incoming list got a bit smaller recently.

Maia has said no, because he’s had his head turned – watch him end up in Lundun in the future or a late loan there this week
Sturaro is off to Genoa on loan
Thelin is now off to Bayer Leverkusen, also on loan

    Loan, Loan, Loan
Looks like we’ve started a trend
Just hope that our Loan Arranger Charnley has some ideas at this late stage and not Dorothy from Halifax either as she wants to go home

Newcastle were also so keen on Swedish striker Isaac Thelin this summer. HLN reported earlier this week that Newcastle had, in fact, agreed on a fee with Anderlecht to sign the striker. The deal was said to be worth around £4.4 million for a player who shone on loan at Waasland-Beveren last season. However, any deal Newcastle had in place to sign Thelin obviously did not work out. The Swede has instead headed out on loan to Bayer Leverkusen. He joins on a season-long loan, with the option of joining the Bundesliga side permanently at the end of the season.

Markaccus – Marlon is a centreback and he was out on loan last season at Nice. Vieira didn’t fancy him though so he ended up back at Barca. I’d take him as cover though.

I’d start Rondon over Joselu. He’s had a full pre-season for WBA. He should be fit. Shouldn’t be too hard for him to understand what Rafa wants him to do as a striker. If his application matches his apparent good attitude, he should start.

The other story regarding Marlon and Nice, was that there were two premiership clubs who were going to buy him – so Barcelona brought him back from Nice.

totally agree you that he won’t be enjoying the adverse publicity and the media criticism
but his game plan was obviously to achieve a negative spend and as the minutes tick past
it’s looking more and more likely he’ll achieve his goal
