Rafa Furious – Feels Let Down – Assurances In Transfer Window Not Kept

The Chronicle are reporting that Rafa Benitez is seething today that assurances that Newcastle will sign both a center-back and a left-back will likely not materialize.

It looks like we will get in center-back Frederico Fernandez on a permanent deal today and transfer fee has been agreed.

His is traveling to Newcastle and will have a medical – but we should be able to sign him today.

But attempts to get in a left-back have fallen flat on their face after Rafa tried to get 32-year-old Liverpool left-footed defender Ragnar Klavan signed today,

Rafa Benitez – seething today

Newcastle could not agree on a fee with the Reds – a common occurrence with Mike Ashley’s Newcastle.

le10sport are reporting that we are trying to sign Monaco’s left-back Jorge, but that’s got very little chance of happening – even if the report is accurate.

The Newcastle hierarchy knew we needed a left-back brought in to back up Paul Dummett because Jesus Gamez, Chancel Mbemba, and Sadio Haidara have all left the club – and all could play at left back.

When we lost Dummett last summer in the first game of the season the defense suffered – so it’s just more incompetence from Newcastle we are witnessing today.

And players Rafa wanted in were not allowed to be signed by the club because they told Rafa the players don’t fit club criteria.

Well, that’s one way to lose Rafa.

Rafa is not in control of who he signs which is a key requirement of his if he is to pen a long-term contract with Newcastle – which now seems rather remote.

The news is that Rafa is not a happy camper and he feels let down on several fronts this summer with the financial restrictions placed on him by Mike Ashley.

This is hardly a positive situation for the club to be in two days before the season starts – but Mike Ashley has brought this on himself.

What do you think?

Wonder if the lack of a signing at left back means Lazaar gets another chance? Probably not though. I think Rafa realised he made a mistake with Lazaar and wouldn’t chance playing him in the Premier League.

Nobody is the slightest bit shocked, I wouldn’t be atall surprised if we fail to get the Fernadez either, could totaly see a we couldn’t agree a fee or we failed to complete it before the deadline….. I hate the fact the transfer window is only a few days long… So its all a mad scramble…… Oh wait.

Nothing will ever change till the cancer just sells.

Weirdly enough I think we have a good mixture of centre halfs that under Rafa’s coaching will do pretty well is this maybe the first time in Newcastle history where we have a proper solid defence?

Still wondering where the creativity and goals are going to come from if Shelvey gets marked out the game

Newcastle United are in talks with AS Monaco over a last-minute deal for defender Jorge, according to Le 10 Sport.
The French outlet claims that the Magpies are in advanced discussions with the Ligue 1 club over a deal for the Brazilian.
The report reveals that any deal for the left-back is “likely to be complicated “and no agreement has yet been reached between the two clubs with just hours of the English transfer window remaining.

    Likely to be complicated ?

lets just keep hoping its signs of the club getting sold. Although I think a more realistic assessment is that MA solely see’s NUFC as a billboard for Sports Direct. He doesn’t care about the fans the club or Rafa. He is happy if he has a club in the top flight and it ends there.

On a positive note, lets try and be a bit more positive. Our team from last season was on fire after the new year. We have a stronger team now! I know others have strengthened more but we still have a team capable of challenging the top 10! lets just hope everyone has a good mental attitude behind the scenes

Does this mystery club criteria keep changing day to day, as surely if Rafa knew what it was why keep trying to sign players that don’t meet it ?

Two hours to go and Fernandez still need to arrive and do his medical – and the clubs still need to agree on the fee.

Come on guys, don’t balls this up. He’s a decent signing imo.

If the Klavan rumours are even true – thank God it failed! No thanks.

Not getting a LB this window is a big disappointment. However, baseless articles claiming that ‘Rafa is fuming’ (with no quotes from Rafa himself) are to be taken with a pinch of salt.

    Two things:
First, Dummitt will crank it up when the whistle blows for the first league game.
Second, somehow me thinks that these failed deals and bonus snags are psych ploys to rally the players around themselves.

To be fair to Penfold (which I’m usually not), Swansea wanted £10m, we bid £3m, we agreed on £6m. Now if we’d have started at £6m, we’d have finished on £8m, so that to me (regardless of the player it’s academic whether people think he’s worth £1m or £100m, it’s what someone will pay, like selling a car, it’s only worth what someone will pay for it), that’s a good deal, and a decent bit of negotiating for a change.

    Swansea buckled/blinked first.

No LB or RB neither of the current are good enough and no one brought in to challenge them either, but we did get a 5th choice CB whats the thinking there are going to a subs bench with all defenders on it? Kevin Mbabu and Joe Bryan would have been good acquisitions instead of another CB. Mbeama often didn’t make the bench last season because 2 defenders were already sitting on it, talking about an unbalanced team.

“Rafa can have every penny generated by the club”
“Rafa is in complete control of transfers”
“Rafa has the final say on all football matters”
“My dream is that the Newcastle academy will emulate Southampton’s”

Then they refuse to back him because he wanted to see investment in training ground and academy, refuse players coz they don’t meet the criteria.

Lies lies lies lies lies. Why are 52,000 happy with this?

    hibbit,

it’s quite clear Rafa will be disgusted with the way he has been treat but he is a model professional and wants to win all of the time so I think he will continue to do the best job he can. 1 because its in his nature but 2 to promote himself for his next job

my worry is with the players

Danny Ings apparently not present at training for Liverpool according to Sky. Not saying he’s definitely coming to the Toon, but he could be I guess. If so, the frustration will be that we didn’t bring him in sooner when he’s presumably been available all Summer long.

Wonder if the club will explain what “meeting our criteria” is all about. I’m thinking its an inexpensive player and never mind what we need positionally. Definitely could have used a left back to compete and at times spell Dumbest and a striker who has the ability to score somewhere between 14-20 goals. we have plenty of center backs and midfielders, but injuries may play a BIG part this year. Hope the medical staff is prepared. Oh, just thought of another criteria for new players…..those who don’t rock the boat, asking for bonuses that were agreed to. Man, Ashley and his lackeys sure are upsetting to say the least.
