Alan Shearer Positive About Newcastle Display

We really lost this game in the first 18 minutes when Spurs were the better side and went 2-1 up and it could have been more.

But Newcastle fought back in the first half and were the better side in the second half and we missed a golden opportunity when Kenedy was straight through on goal but the goalkeeper blocked his shot.

Then on 86 minutes, the strong-looking Rondon had a shot deflected onto the cross-bar.

Both Rondon and Muto with their brief appearances look like the can add to the side.

Agreed Alan, there was a couple of licks of paint on the bottom of the bar between us and they are supposedly going to come 3rd in the league. Good fight and a lot of positives once the new lads get moulded in. HWTL

If Yedlini is out for awhile someone asked if we have full back cover ?
Move Dummett to right back and then slot in the new guy to Left back . Anything wrong with this idea Mikey boy ?

Too many players not releasing the ball quick enough but often no runners into space.
Atsu looks out of his depth.
    Back post defending negligent again.
Ritchie had a hissy fit when subd
3-3 might have been a fair result

I was shocked to see Joselu start but I think that’s the first Time I’ve actually been pretty pleased with him. He fought for everything, Good finish, that ball through to Kenedy was brilliant so fair play to the lad.

Muto looks a real tidy little player, did more than Perez did in that 10 Mins after coming on.

Rondon needs game Time imo, he’s a real handful and he was decent enough and getting that goal would’ve been huge for him but the bar had other ideas.

Kenedy (the tanned version of Messi) was phenomenal. What a talent.

Atsu was diabolical, very very bad game for him that and surely Rafa will know he got that sub with Ritchie totally wrong.

Everyone else were solid enough and imo even a draw would’ve been flattering for Spurs. We were the better team but it wasn’t to be. Well played lads.

Ritchie looked the best player on the pitch, and I include both sides. I remember when some questioned if he was Premier League level lol.

I agree with the Ritchie comment. He looked very sharp and his reaction to being subbed says it all. Strange decision.

Kenedy was good but to say he was like Messi for us is embarrassing lol.

He had a great start to the season and hopefully we can buy him permanently in the future (although doubtful).

He should have scored when put through on goal by that brilliant pass by Joselu. Early season rustiness at fault there me thinks.

I have just reported it to Ed, no one should have to put up with this.

nothing will be done because there is 2 sets of rules in here.

sad thing is, its all key board worriers hiding behind a screen,

Rafa made a mistake with Ritche how he substituted our best player. I don’t get it.

Joselu I am very happy he can be a dependable back up.

Perez has competition for the first time.

Disappointed with the result but not with our effort, well done for that lads. Feeling more positive for the season, just a tough start to the season to contend with.

Hope Yedlin’s injury isn’t too serious.

Newcastle were weak in the first half, however were unlucky not to finish the game without a point, never mind all three.
I’m certainly encouraged by the performance of Newcastle, there’s no doubt we won’t win the league, but relegation is definitely a word that shouldn’t be mentioned.

Fingers crossed Yedlin is ok !! We could revert to a back three with Kennedy and Richie as wing backs. Once again Dummett Atsu and Perez just not good enough. Dummett and Atsu do nothing but give the ball away and Perez gives the ball away and spends the rest of his time on his arse.
    Howay the lads !!!!

    From previous:

‘every post i read on here about subs
not one had Ritchie coming off or Atsu coming on.’

‘Rafa got many things wrong in this game’

I called all our subs correctly and would have done the same – didn’t list them here as I was watching the game with a mate and didn’t want to be on my phone. Atsu was pretty poor but I totally understand why the sub was made. For all his good early endevours, Ritchie was fading at the time he went off imo. I have seen that many times with him – I like him, don’t get me wrong, but he has a habit of fading out of games.

We were unlucky today and deserved a draw – very competent 2nd half showing – not sure how that equates to ‘many mistakes’ being made by Rafa.

‘Cbs their weakest area’ – hmm, Vertongen… weak… bit of an oxymoron there.

I think there are a great deal of positives after a good second half performance, where we warranted a draw. Some sloppy defending for both their goals but it is the first competitive game of the season. Spurs’ defending for Hoss’s goal was also very poor.

Biggest negative – lack of depth in certain areas highlighted, especially in full back positions. This is the price of a thrifty approach to the transfer window. But we knew that anyway.

Positives – Shelvey played very well, Rondon nearly scored, Muto looked lively, Lascelles was excellent and Dubs made some good saves (though I feel he should have gone out and claimed the ball for the second goal).

Not a bad start, just a bit unlucky is all.
Lots of good points. Getting stuck in, with lots of hustle, but as someone stated before, passing lanes are there if someone, ANYONE, would move into space. And does anyone else think that by the middle of the season at the latest, Muto will be a starter replacing Perez? Or at least getting much more time on the pitch?

We really missed Legeune today, injuries do happen but the first goal was sloppy. Only difference was they were more clinical in front of goal. Onwards and upwards hopefully.
