Mo Diame says he’s not as fit as he wanted to be at the start of the season, but he was impressed by the way Newcastle came back into the game against Spurs yesterday.
After we had gone down 2-1 after 18 minutes we came back into the game in that first half and the lads put in a spirited performance in the second half.
And – not for the first time – Mo has criticized his own performance – and said he wasn’t up to par in the first half.
But he put in a good performance in the final 45 minutes as Newcastle hit the woodwork twice but we just couldn’t get the equalizer.
Mo Diame – in action yesterday in the second half
This is what Mo Diame has said on the Newcastle website:
“I thought we had a bad first half, and I thought I had a bad first half personally, so it wasn’t easy,”
“But second half, I thought we deserved a draw. We need to take the positive things, and come back quick and be ready for Cardiff.”
“There was a lot of excitement to start this game. We’ve been waiting for this game for a while.”
“We saw a lot of balls lost in the middle – from us and from them – and that’s why it was an open game.”
“The second half, we did well – we came back in our shape and did things in the right way. Hopefully, we’re going to keep going in this way. “
“We have to keep that second half in mind.”
“Rondon and Muto did well. They brought us the fresh things we needed for the second half. “
“Hopefully, they can keep going and bring something more for the team.”
“It was a long pre-season. I would have expected to be more fit than I was today, but I couldn’t play 90 minutes in the last friendly because I was injured.”
“I’ll be OK.”
“The injury is much better now. I wasn’t sure I’d be here today, but I’m all right, and I’ll be OK for Cardiff and Chelsea.”
Mo will be under severe pressure this season from Ki Sung-yueng for his holding midfield position.
The captain of South Korea has played there before with Jonjo Shelvey at Swansea, and he has looked a talented and experienced player in preseason.

Comment #84It’s amusing that the Mail normally
gets called the Daily Fail and prints
a pack of lies – until the bete noire
is mentioned then all of a sudden
it has to be believed.
