Rafa has hit back at some of his critics in the press.
Pundits like Richard Keys and Andy Gray have been critical of the Newcastle manager for complaining in this summer’s transfer window.
Rafa was given £22.5M gross to bring in 7 players, but from the outgoing transfers, we pulled in £43M gross.
So we made a profit of about £20M net and fans wanted Ashley to spend more money so we could have a better squad at the beginning of the season – but he didn’t do that.
Rafa Benitez – at the game yesterday
This is what Rafa Benitez has said about the criticism:
“I’ve said that the squad is a little bit better.”
“People need to read my quotes properly.”
“We were bringing in players to improve the squad overall and it depends on the new additions if they can improve the starters.”
“If they can do that we have a better team.”
“The problem we have here is that all the other teams are improving. So we will see where we are.”
We’ll have to see what Mike Ashley allows Rafa to spend in the January transfer window but we’ll not be holding our breath.
We need a left-back, number 10, and possibly another striker.
And it could be the last transfer window that Ashley withholds money from Rafa.
That’s because the manager could be gone once his contract runs out at the end of June next year.
We sincerely hope that’s not the case.

Comment #2Hopefully Ashley may be gone by the next window. He needs to grab a sale before Rafa walks at end of season.

Comment #3We do need to be shot of Ashley asap.
His attention will now entirely on his new toy, HofF.
Can he transfer money from us to HofF? if he can, I expect Rafa to be handed pennies to spend in January
