Callum Roberts played at West Brom yesterday in the 1-1 draw and he equalized in the second half for Newcastle.
The impressive local lad knows he has to get Rafa’s attention this season by scoring goals and getting assists too.
Callum will either stay at Newcastle this season but could also go out on loan to a lower division club to get some first team games.
Callum turned 21 in April and it’s now time for him to show he can become a first-team player at Newcastle.
Callum Roberts – in action in the preseason
This is what Callum said on nufcTV after the game yesterday:
“It’s always nice to start the season with a goal – but definitely I need to add more goals and assists to my game.”
“It’s goals and assists which get wingers and forwards noticed the most – be it to get a loan move, or to impress the first-team manager, because that’s what he [Benitez] is going to be looking for.”
“It was a really good experience (preseason), where I played in all the games, but I needed to get a full 90 minutes in for the U-23s, which I’ve done now.”
“Being away with the first team has been great; you play with better players, the standard is higher and the intensity is totally different.”
“You’ve got to up your game when you go up a level, and I think I did that really well during pre-season.”
“But now it’s about translating that back into the U-23 setup and helping this side reach the next level too.”
“This is my job, it’s my job to score goals and make goals, so you’ve just got to try and forget the occasion – it doesn’t matter where you’re playing, or who you’re playing against – and try to perform to your best.”
“We worked really hard in pre-season, both on the pitch and in the gym, so now it’s about translating it from the training pitch into every game. If I can do that, I’ll be really happy.”
Another local lad, 21-year-old Adam Armstrong, was sold to Blackburn Rovers this summer and that was a disappointment that Adam didn’t make it at his hometown club.
We hope that Callum can show some excellent form this season and make his way permanently into the Newcastle first team squad.
Comments welcome.

Comment #48I and Atkinson let off Danny Dier when he crudely brought down Perez from behind – had already been booked for a lesser offence
Funny how Pochettino hooked him 5 minutes later

Comment #49Just a suggestion. There isn’t anyone out there who wants to buy us and run us passionately. But thinking about fan ownership with trustworthy people running club with clubs best interest i.e. keegan & shearer. can’t 52000 fans for example commit £10000 each and that should get 520,000,000. Use 400 mill to buy club. then use rest for training ground and transfers then with tv money keep club sustainable. We would need passionate football people to run club so get keegan and shearer to run club as directors and keep Benitez as manager. the £10000 fans donation can guarantee season ticket for next 10 years as payment of their 10 grand money. Surely something along those lines could work. Maybe get a gofundme page or something just to gauge who would be interested and how many fans would sign up. Then get geordie celebrity fans i.e. ant and dec maybe to donate as well to the selling price. Could work. Does anyone here have contacts to put this idea forward to someone like Shearer/Keegan? On top of the fans 10 grand each we could ask for donations from all over the world to contribute to the pot of raising enough to buy Ashley out. Just need someone with the expertise to try. I’m no expert so putting it down as a suggestion.

The Labour party should go back to the way it was, a peoples party, a working class party we were proud of, it is nothing like that now, it looks like they have been taken over by groups that are not for the people at all, ask yourself what is going on, why such a drastic change, don’t let these groups take over, Corbyn is only a figure head, he has NO influence, he is being manipulated by Momentum who I suspect are pulling Ancient’s strings as well. Corbyn is a prize buffoon who failed all 3 of his A Levels. We should have got David Miliband and not his geek brother.

I get that. I just see it as a very simple view of how much has been input in the sides. Not about valuations, just simply price the players have been bought. Flawed and simple but I think it shows how we’ve been neglected. Only five times has Rafa been allowed to buy a player costing more than £8m.

The link on the previous thread wasn’t the problem for me on the comments section. It appeared to me that Mister Tuff’s line of full stops caused the issue. Not blaming him, I think it was accidental but don’t want to test it out in case it is so.

Comment #66I know it ain’t plus seats are needed for away fans. Glazers bought man utd with a loan the chinese guy bought ac milan with a loan. Maybe if Shearer and Keegan got a consortium together and got a loan and also some fans to chip in what they can if 10 grand is too much and offset the cost with some of the tv money etc and guaranteed season ticket sales. For example 30000 season ticket holders pay 5 grand which would raise 150,000,000 then 250,000,000 bank loan might do it. But there isn’t anyone who could take the risk.. no proper rich people from Newcastle.

if we had a working academy and players coming through the system it could be a stat to be proud of
but alas we have none of that
apart from cardiff the other 2 clubs that came up spent big but i wonder where we compared to the 3 teams that went down
