Rafa – We Can Get Something At The Etihad

Manchester City are huge favorites today to beat Newcastle, and we have so far lost three of our first four games, and one to Nottingham Forest in the League Cup last Wednesday.

We have also been beaten by two top six sides – Tottenham and Chelsea by the same score of 2-1.

After today’s game there is the two-week International break, and then we play Arsenal at home.

So in our first five league games, we play four top-six teams  – and that makes it very difficult to pick up points.

It didn’t help that we missed a penalty in the last minute at Cardiff.

Otherwise, we could have had 3 points from our three league games and not just a single point.

Rafa Benitez in training – we can get a result today

But that’s all water under the Tyne Bridge now, and we can do nothing about it – we have to look forward.

Rafa still thinks we can get something at the Etihad today, but we have to play like we did against Chelsea with some improvements

This is some of what Rafa has said as reported in the Chronicle today:

“What I will say to you is what I said to my players.” “We can get the result if we do the right things.”

“If we are as good as we were at the Chelsea game defensively, and we improve our transition between defense and attack – we have a chance.”

“Is it easy? No, if it was we’d do it more frequently.” “It’s not easy but we are working on it.”

“They’re a good team and they have spent money again this summer, so that will be tough.”

“You could see Huddersfield went there and were aggressive and lost 6-1.”

“So you can be very attacking and offensive and lose or you can be defensive and lose.”

“We will try to find a balance.”

“You are always disappointed to lose games whoever it’s against.”

“But it was important to see Rondon, Muto, Schar, Sterry, and Longstaff get game-time.”

“We had players involved and that means they have minutes under their belts.”

“That is good for the competition for the team.

“With the international break coming up you don’t know if it will be good or bad.

“It may give us some time to recover players that are injured at the moment.

“The competition has now improved because of the Forest game and we will keep the competition going in training.”

“It will be good for the team.”

Benitez doesn’t want to go the way pundits want us to play – and give it a go.

That only pits us against City’s strength and when Huddersfield did that they were taken apart 6-1.

The best we can hope for is to play well defensively and frustrate City.

And then maybe they could score an own goal for us late in the game, and we win 1-0.

That would work.

So Rafa ended the transfer window with large sums of cash he decided not to spend ?
    Or
MA ended the transfer window with large sums he decided not to spend ?

Our entire squad cost about as much as Marhez

But its Rafas defensive tactics thats to blame for the steady decline in Newcastle.

Theres only one person whos been here the whole of the last 11 years

Changing the manager again is futile, yes not everyone likes his tactics but its not the root cause of the decline in our ability to compete in this league

    Aguero 7/2 to score a hat-trick
Wonder what the odds are for a Joselu hat-trick?

“If we are as good as we were at the Chelsea game defensively, and we improve our transition between defense and attack – we have a chance.”

We had no capacity at all to move from defence to attack against Chelsea.
    Zero, none whatsoever.
On the odd occasion when we worked the ball to Murphy. He was on his own being pressed by 2 or 3 of their players.
His only option was to kick it and run after it.

That’s a fact. Make of it what you will. If I see that am I not entitled to say it.
Does it mean I’m being anti Rafa.
No, I’m just commenting on what I saw.

‘Premier League champions City are unbeaten in their last 21 (TWENTY ONE) top-flight meetings against the Magpies, who have lost all of their previous nine trips to the Etihad, conceding 32 goals in that run.

Argentine striker Sergio Aguero is a nemesis for most Premier League sides but he particularly enjoys playing against Newcastle, netting 14 times which is a record for goals scored against an opponent for a single club.’

    I bloody hate aguero!!

We can get something at the Etihad.
    Its called a good stuffing.
3 nil. It could be more if they wanted but its hard attacking against 11 in the box. After the second or third they will just play the game out. You can keep the score down by just defending because teams stop trying after a couple of goals because they realize that we have no threat. But what do you do when they score early. No plan B is there?.
City know that we will defend for 80 minutes and try to sneak a winner in the last 5. So they know from the first minute we will retreat so they have it in their mindset to camp on the edge of our box..If we actually attacked them for 10 minutes they would be put out and we might even get a goal to defend. But I cannot see anything unexpected happening with Rafa. Predictable.

The lack of chances against Chelsea was due to poor play and poor passing from the players.

Nothing to do with tactics, you could have played 3 upfront but if the midfield wingers and defenders can’t pick a pass you still won’t make a chance.

Blam8ng Rafa for poor player performance is pathetic.. Not one of the new players are up to speed a few of the old squad aren’t there either.

Rather than blaming Rafa I look at how long he’s had the players, the circus of a window it took to get them and the press hounding a club and city to make any mole hill in to a mountain.

The team that needs to be put out today:

    Dubravka

Yedlin schar lascelles Fernandez Clarke dummett

    Sterry diame ki manquillo

This team isn’t the team to get a point or three, just the team to ensure that some posters, pundits and media outlets blow their fuse and hurt themselves. May as well get something out the game since it doesn’t look to be anything in it for us points wise.

    RAFA
The only thing you are going to get out of city
    Is zero points
If it ends 1-0 to city the Rafa fans will be in there element how pathetic to laud a defeat is this what it has come to
Just because we did not get a thrashing you would be singing from the roof tops
Of course the game is still to play but whatever outcome it will be another nail in rafas coffin

That was a good post earlier by Pitmatic about procession stats. I was surprised by the Chelsea stats because we were knocking the ball up to Rondon and Murphy but if they lost the ball that didn’t count!

Repost from last night (very late) – I’m interested to hear others’ thoughts

I think Chi Onwurah’s intervention in the running of NUFC is the single most positive thing that could have happened for the fans. As a shadow minister, she has connections, a National profile, respect and gravity which cannot be matched by any pundit, fan or journalist, no matter how sincere they are. As a Geordie and a fan of NUFC, nobody can accuse her of simply doing this as an exercise in popularity or to curry favour with her constituents.

Her questions to the BBC will require an answer. If the BBC executive leadership do not have a ready answer, they will have to find one, which will require an investigation. As a publicly funded body, they cannot be seen to be favouring a particular brand over any other and if Sports Direct are benefiting from their Premier League coverage without paying like other brands, this will lead to questions to the Premier League and the FA.

It’s an indirect attack on Sports Direct and on Ashley, which will serve to increase the pressure on both parties and may well make the football World sit up and pay attention.

I also think this is just the start from Ms Onwurah as I feel certain she has plenty of other tricks up her sleeve.

If i was mgr today id go 532.
    Dubravaka
    Yedlin lascelles fernandez schar dummet
    Hayden ki Diame
    Rondon Joselu.

If hayden not available perez in mid. Schar because of his long ball ability and clark has played all games so far. Tactics leave Rondon joselu together to give city defense sumat to think about. Use wing backs yedlin and dummet to get forward. Hayden and diame t burst forwrd with ball and without. Also use rondon and joselu to hold ball up together. We need to press instead of just standing behind ball and drool watching them pass.

Murphy and kenedy on 2nd half.
Simple enough game plan i think.

    What would others do?

I’d like to see the SD Reationship investigated, it may expedite a sale.

Interesting we’ve paid £8m plus to SD over the last several years yet our club shop receipts show SD and the club doesn’t receive a payment from them.

It would be interesting to see what real benefit the club gets from it’s relationship with SD, I doubt there’s any, but we should be know.

MA wont talk to the media ,usually when he does its scripted in his favor
He wont talk to the shareholder

But he will have to talk to the government

Personally i think the Newcastle / SD link will be used to reveal his exploitation of people and buinesses not seen since the Victorain era
Untill hes gone we wont compete in this league
