The press has overdone Kenedy’s poor start to this season.
And it’s probably based on the Brazilian 22-year-old missing that last minute penalty at Cardiff that could have had Newcastle on 3 points at the moment rather than just one.
But these things happen – even to the best players.
He’s had a couple of mediocre games – one of them being at Cardiff.
And then he had to leave the pitch with a headache in our last game at Manchester City, and that didn’t help things either.
Kenedy – crucial season for him at Newcastle
But Rafa, as ever, is upbeat and believes the youngster will soon be back in form in the famous Newcastle shirt.
This is what Rafa has said today in the Chronicle:
“I was talking with him at the beginning of the season and talking with his people and the people around him, including his agent.”
“It is a crucial season for him. Obviously, he would like to go to Chelsea and win the league, for example.”
“Fine but it’s a win-win situation for us. He has to do really well here if he wants to go there and play and have a chance.”
“They are a top side and it’s very demanding. He knows that.”
“He will need some time(to get back to his best. His partner was having a baby and it was a difficult time in the summer.”
“Hopefully little by little it will settle down and he can be the player that we were expecting.”
“He has to be consistent. He was doing really well for us for six months, now he has to prove he is someone who can play at this level for a while.”
“I think he can do it but he has a difficult summer with the baby.”
“She was in Brazil and in London so it was difficult but little by little it will settle down.”
“He wants to do well and he has to do well.”
Kenedy has also been playing with a little pain in his groin which he’s been getting treatment for and that hasn’t helped.
But the winger will be ready to start against Arsenal on Saturday and we expect him to have a good game.
We hope he has a good game.
