Here a video of the game this afternoon that lasts around 11 minutes.
If it comes up with something after you press the white arrow to start the video – that’s an advert – so just skip it.
It looks excellent if you watch it full screen.
Ciaran Clark scores with a late header

For many years we had bad owners,Boards of Directors they were known as.They all had a connection with the club, maybe lived in the area, but this Barsteward has no affiliation whatsoever to the club other to make money from it.
Its about time the fans that attend realise that this is as good as it gets with this owner, survival in the premier league.
No hope of winning a cup even,Forest proved that for sure.

Comment #42Sorry but we had players on the pitch who were good enough to beat forest and Cardiff but we were crap and didn’t make it count. For that the players and Rafa must take the blame.

I wish it were as simple as just 2 players, and esp the 2 positions you bring up.
Is / was shearer a type of player that would thrive under Rafa, I would argue that Shearer would struggle like he did under Rude Boy, Shearer thrived under managers that attacked, If shearer was in his prime right now he would be a 10 -15 goal a season striker under Rafa, no matter where Rafa has been, he always sets up defensive, its why he has not lasted long at the big big clubs.
as for a Beardsley type player, where would he play him,, He seems to like his no10 to be a back up DMC as well, and this leaves the no10 to far away from the no9
His 4 2 3 1 never really looks like a 4 2 3 1, its more of a 4 3 2 1 , with who ever lost up front doing a job for the defence, but in reality he is just marked out of the game.
im now equating Rafa to the great Bobby Fisher, thought about the game to much and went insane, and cannot see it.
Rafa by all accounts is a cold man, driven by football, and dosnt are about the player. and when a man like that loses his squad, he wont win them back, he dosnt know how to, he proves it week after week with his negative press conferences, P45 was a con man, he woould make up lies on top of lies, Rafa tells it like it is from his prospective, and thats what hurts,, the player put in great effort. says it all really

Comment #44Wow! Been out all day since 7.30 (Manchester road trip, not on the beer), got home having heard on every media I could absorb the match reaction on that we’d done ok and had the better of the first half to see the reaction on here. Do some of our ‘fans’ not pay attention to the game and just use the result to promote their own agenda? Of course they do, and they should hang their heads in shame.

im finding it very hard to take anyone of you who keep saying Ash ooot serious.
whats more important, getting him out or going to watch the match, buying the shirts and other stuff NUFC`?
From my view point, you dont mind Ashley, as you keep going back, you keep buying shirts.
the only thing he is interested in is money, and you mugs just keep handing it over,, so quit whining on about him..

Comment #49Since they like the results so much, here’s an analysis of the wider results today.
Chelsea 4-1Cardiff – Cardiff evidently able to score away from home against one of the top teams in the League. Couldn’t score against us at home though. Chelsea score lots of goals, except against us they won by one goal, which means we were in the game till the end, unlike Cardiff.
Spurs 1-2 Liverpool Competitive result between 2 of the country’s top teams. We lost by the same margin vs Spurs, which suggests when we meet Liverpool it should be competitive again.
Man City 3-0 Fulham We lost 2-1 away at City. Joselu scored, Mitro didn’t. We conceded fewer goals. We are therefore a better team than Fulham as we scored more and conceded fewer?
A lot of the above is, of course, nonsense. You cannot derive season-long predictions from single results and you cannot compare one team’s results against another with a similar fixture, otherwise a computer could predict the final league table after the second match in any given league.
However, there are plenty of ‘fans’ on here screaming for Rafa’s head following a similar logic.

Yes it is Ashley’s fault. There I said it.
And guess what? It is Rafa’s fault too. He has a defeatist attitude and has not been “world class”, as posters on here seem to classify him, for years.
His starting 11 is often mystifying and he acts like he is afraid to attack any and every team he faces. His brand of football is crap and his leadership style appears to be non-existent. Who the hell would want to come here to play for him anyway? Just look at how he treats anyone in form or with talent.
I hate Ashley, but I am tired of Rafa’s negative comments and approach to each match.
Something needs to change. Praying things get better in next few weeks.

Comment #51catchy, I have not used the result to promote my own agenda and therefore will not be hanging my head in shame.
Rafa is human, he makes calls based on the information available to him at any given time as managers in any walk of life have to do and occasionally he will get it wrong. It’s not the role of anyone on here to tell him when that is, as we do not have access to the information he does.
What we should do, as a club and a fanbase, is recognise when the team and the club are having a difficult time, self imposed or otherwise (horrendous opening fixtures for eg), and do that one thing we can do. Give them our SUPPORT
I wasn’t there today, but would have been if possible. I would have been shouting from the rafters, screaming my last possible breath to urge the team on, whether on the front foot or the back, urging the ball to fall kindly, willing the referee to see the game the way I saw it. This is support, sitting in the background sniping at our best hope for success is idiocy.

Arsenal are not in ManC or Liverpools league, spurs was the first game of the season so anything could of happened , Chelsea seem to only have Hazzard.
I understand that at times you have to play ugly, or you will be on the end of a 5-0 thrashing, but your logic dose not account for Forest or Cardiff. the only thing that can account for it is Rafas mind set, he dosnt trust the players, which in turn is sewing doubt into there heads,, and we are beaten before we kick a ball.
under P45, and Rafa, we dont ever play for 90 mins, they keep it tight and worry about the other team for 70 mins, then Rafa makes his subs and expects to win the game in the last 20 mins, WE sit so deep that we are one bad pass away from conceding like Lascelles last week.
this is never going to change no matter who Rafa buys, so you cn give him all the money in the world, but his football will never improve

Comment #53So catchy, many have asked it before, but I am interested to know.
If we ditched Rafa, who would we replace him with? Who do you think would have done better with the current squad against the combined might of Man City, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal and Cardiff away (which is a tough game, btw)?
If you cannot give me a credible answer, if you cannot suggest one single sensible, available and realistic name, then I would ask you to consider what it is that you are agitating for.
If it’s not Rafa, who has proven himself able to galvanise a team to put their bodies on the line, who turned the Steve McLaren failures into a team capable of a 6 game unbeaten run, won the Championship and finished 10th in their return to the Prem, who is it?
Balls on the block, lay yourself open to ridicule, let us know whet is your Plan A. Otherwise, we’ll be shipping a proven quality manager for complete and utter anarchy.
Or, admit that you’re agitating for your own agenda.
Anything less than that will be an admission that you’re wrong.

if thats your stance, why question Ashley? Sing and back the club, and dont complain.
what gives you the right to question anyone for expressing what they see as wrong?,, I fully back you on Ashley,
i can give you many reasons why Rafa is wrong for our club, and i have, but you can onnly give me one for him staying, because he has won things.

All i can tell you is that any manager I would go for would not play 4321. I cannot give you names because to give you a good answer would take time to sit and look around at different leagues. the how they play the game.
they would have to have won a league, and play more attack minded football.
I like Jokanovic at Fulham
Garcia at watford
but these are employed,, this is more about the style of play
you say we finished 10th and it was all Rafa,, I say that proves the players are good enough, that proves that these are premiership players

I was pitch side working as a steward when Tino scored his hatrick vs Barca , behind the goal when ginola scored against ferencvaros, dont like the man, but best goal iv seen live https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09pcmIPrwH4. iv been to hundreds of Reserve games, none of wich makes me any better than you

Comment #58“I say that proves the players are good enough, that proves that these are premiership players”
Agreed. However, it also proves that the manager knows how to play those players, given that last season you said they weren’t good enough.
If Rafa was enough to get there last season, where can we get this season? Let’s give the manager and the team an opportunity to prove themselves over a decent period of time, rather than destroy them after a poor run of results against the best teams in the land.
Personally, I’d prefer a proven manager against the uncertainty of your “any manager I would go for” which sounds suspiciously like anarchy to me.

Sep 16, 2018 at 2:15 AM
Comment #60catchy, you, like many on here, have far better stories to tell than I do about why you should support the team more than I. I’m a plastic Geordie, with a short memory of historic occasions
That’s no excuse though. We’re all part of the club and the rot can set in at any point. Stay strong is my message. Believe in the parts of the infrastructure that we know will not fail. Could there be an alternative to Lascelles as Captain? Possibly. Could there be a better manager than Rafa waiting in the wings? Possibly. Could we do better on recruitment? Possibly. Could we do better on youth development? Probably.
Can we do better on commercial development? Yes. Could our infrastructure be improved? Yes. Could we have a better owner? Absolutely 100% no doubt about it.
So, let’s focus on the strong points, while we chip away at the weak points. Let’s support Rafa and Lascelles, knowing that they could be the cross-beams that prevent the entire structure from collapsing. Let’s hope that their strength can not only support the club but begin to raise it anew. Let’s not knock their knees out from under them, hoping that somebody else will run in to replace them, because it may not happen. In that case we, very much on the outside, may just end up staring at the smoking ruins left behind.

Good posts and fair reasoning.
I’m pleased you pressed Catchy on who he’d bring into the hot seat if he got his away (Rafa sacked). He won’t say. The last one he championed was McClaren.
The blog has seen the usual gathering of vultures and the slack bladdered after a defeat.
But we are in the clarts, no denying that, and have pressure mounting on getting a good result away at Palace now. They are buoyed after an away win yesterday. It’s gonna be tough. Hopefully this time next week we will be grateful for having had another week’s training and fitness building for Shelvey and Rondon.

Comment #70It’s a poor start and does indicate a modest group who now will know they are in for a slog and won’t help the football. Rafa will stick with his process though and we’ll finish safely mid-table so long as Shelvey comes back in next week and stays fit. We need to see contributions from Muto and Rondon too. Ashley’s always about something other than putting a competitive 11 out, a sale, politicking over Rafa’s contract, banking cash against a possible relegation? Jam tomorrow, as always, but there’ll be no jam this term, and probably never under this owner.

We as fans should not just take what’s thrown at us neither from the owner nor from management or players!

Comment #75On the game..it’s another tight result. Could have easily been a draw.
Arsenal, with their multi million £ squad never mind first eleven, couldn’t dominate us, couldn’t force a save from Dubravka, until another individual mistake.
Fernandez had a very good game, but his unnecessary foul led to Xhaka’s top quality free kick from distance, and it basically handed them the game.
Then Ozil profited from good fortune, a well blocked effort just fell to him inside the box and sat up.

Comment #76Sing…it would probably be quite impossible for any of us to make that assessment wouldn’t you agree?
Should it happen we’ll have to appoint a new manager (lets hope it won’t hapoen mid season) then we all know it will have to be someone who’s available!
So Catchy will have to pick someone without a job! Not even sure that would be his preference 😉

Comment #79Yes it would Jesper, it would be impossible. But also impossible for us to actually find anyone with the experience, knowledge and tactical know how. Someone who could influence, or even work with, a useless owner who is going to provide him with no backing whatsoever.
Because I firmly believe that that person, right now, doesn’t exist. Nobody with any clout would come.
So my feeling is fans should get behind the one we have.
