The defense played well yesterday at Selhurst Park, and we got our second clean sheet in the first 6 league games.
The other one was at Cardiff City.
Federico Fernandez has come straight into the side, and he is in top form at the moment partnering with captain Jamal Lascelles in the heart of the Newcastle defense.
He’s our Man of the Match for yesterday’s game.
Federico played 117 Premier League games for Swansea over four seasons, and he’s been a great addition to the Newcastle side.
If the 6ft 3ins defender keeps playing like this we expect him to get a recall to the Argentina squad – he already has 32 caps for his country and has played a season with Rafa while at Napoli.
He has 62% of the vote followed by Martin Dubravka and Jamaal Lascelles who also had strong games yesterday.
Last Saturday at home to Arsenal, Fernandez was also our Man of the Match with 49% of the vote.
He’s worth £6M of anybody’s money and his experience in the Premier League this season will be invaluable.
Comments welcome.

we all know we have problems and we all have different ideas on how to fix them, but i really do have to question the mentality of anyone putting Martin O’Neil forward as the cure,

Comment #10The reason we never seem to find strikers is they cost more
We just won’t pay the going rate, fine to sell them though
Just we won’t buy them, the ones we get are problem cases and gambles

I’m doing quite well avoiding Tool22’s posts but every now and then I accidentally read a bit and I think, why? What kind of mentality continues on and on with utter drivel that he knows is doing nothing except seriously annoying the more mature posters on here? A sad, sad child.

Still no answer? Why do you think we persist with a no10 when we clearly don’t have one and haven’t had one for 3 years

Do you not think it would be better to abandon the no10 role? Either drop some one else back into midfield or play muto as a partner to joselu or Rondon. Go with 2 up top.
I personally would like to see us get rid of trying to fit some one into that role as we’ve shown for 3 years that it just doesn’t work for us. Might give us a but more of an edge in the final 3rd

I don’t think we’ll finish 10th this season. I’ll be very happy if we stay up.
It was a great achievement last season probably part of the reasons MA didn’t think we needed to spend in the transfer window.

Did I say he hasn’t done well? Did I have any qualms about finishing 10th?
I’m talking about no10 not working and hasn’t worked for 3 years yet we persist with it. Surely he can see that though
It’s a simple observation, we tried Diame in that position and he looked awful, he then reverted to his normal position and he looked like a new signing.
Last season is also a long time ago, we are well into this season and against Leicester we’ve got a good chance to get our first win of the season, a good chance to change and get muto on the pitch upfront with Rondon or joselu

Gini played that role for his former club before joining us, SDJ also plays that role. They were the last 2 we had for that position……since then we’ve tried to fit someone into a no10 role and it’s not worked anyway near as often as we’d like

Comment #32If we want to persist with a no10 then drop Perez, kenedy hasn’t done well but give him a go at that position as he has played it back in Brazil. Stick Murphy on the LW and give us a bit more pace on counters

Yep he could have but under rafa we’ve only had SDJ and Gini.
What about the kid Victor Fernandez, could he play that role. He seemed to have settled well for the u23s last season, can he not make the step up?
Perez has had far to many chances for my liking, he’s due a goal and a decent game but it’s 1 good game in 7 which just isn’t anywhere near good enough
