25-year-old Ayoze Perez had a much better game on Saturday at Old Trafford than he did in the 2-0 defeat at home to Leicester.
And that was true with a lot of Newcastle players who were excellent in the first half.
But then in the second the Red Devils were much better and pressed Newcastle.
We held out until the 70th minutes, but then we conceded three goals in the last 20 minutes to lose the game 3-2, the winner for Manchester coming in stoppage time.
Ayoze Perez – in action on Saturday
Ayoze was stunned we took nothing out of the game but pinpoints one area all of our players need to improve on:
“I don’t know what to say after that,”
“It was a great performance and a very disappointing result.”
“I thought we did a good job, but the truth is that at the end, we come away with nothing.”
“And that’s the most important thing.”
“What is so frustrating is that we could not have been in a better position than we were – 2-0 up at Old Trafford with not a lot of time left.”
“We won’t have a better chance than that.” “But they pushed a lot, and, at the end, it felt like they had four or five strikers on the pitch.”
“It’s quite hard when you’re facing that.”
“Perhaps, in certain situations, our understanding of the game has got to be better.”
“For so long, we did a great job out there, dominating Manchester United in the first half..”
“But it’s the little details that are still happening. That is what cost us.”
“Against this team, in this situation, you cannot afford to make the smallest mistakes, because they can make the difference.”
“Even in the second half, when they were much improved, we still had the chance to score again.”
“We could not have given any more. But the understanding of the game must improve.”
“When you’re 2-0 up, you must look after the result and we did not do that.”
“It’s still good,” “We came here to play against a top side, and we did that. We were pressing, good counter attack.
“The feeling is that we played well, but that was not enough. They scored one more goal than us.
“In the end, they had to put all their forwards on. We should have handled it better and got the result we so desperately wanted”
Maybe Saturday is a learning experience, but again we are missing experience in the side – much like we did last season.
We did have Federico Fernandez playing but Rondon and Ki, who also have vast Premier League experience, and were brought in over the summer, were not in the squad.
Let’s hope we can finally win a game when we play Brighton at home a week on Saturday.

Comment #6Instead of ‘the little details’ Ayoze could have blamed years of underinvestment and neglect by an absentee owner with his crew of some of the nastiest, incompetents ever to step inside SJP, but who would by the pizzas and the week in Skegness then?

Comment #7I think Fat lad has told the team that whoever gets voted as worst player of the day will be his bitch for the week LOL. First half not many to choose from . Second half especially after 70 mins it’ll be quite a choice for Fat lad, LOL
They need to spend more time together as a group away from football to find out how each other ticks. KK used to do that quite a bit with his team of entertainers. So why not now ??
