Rafa Tracking This Winger For Potential January Signing

Newcastle have been interested in 27-year-old Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues for some time now, and it seems that he could be a target of ours in the upcoming January transfer window.

It looks like Rafa will need to strengthen the Newcastle squad significantly in January – as he did last January – if Newcastle are going to avoid another relegation this season.

It would be the third relegation in twelve years of ownership under Mike Ashley who has done nothing to help improve the club.

We’ve been in a downward spiral since Ashley bought the club in 2007.

27-year-old Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues

Turkish Football are reporting that Newcastle scouts have continued to look at the winger and could go in for him this January.

The news is that we had a sizable bid turned down for him last summer.

But like many of our offers for players, we were below the 15M asking price of the Turkish club.

Mike Ashley may have to splash some cash in January if he has any chance of keeping Rafa Benitez at Newcastle past this summer.

Some signings this January may also need to be permanent buys to convince Rafa to stay on at Newcastle.

There have been some reports from Turkey that have not turned out to be accurate, but we have been after this Cape Vere winger since last summer (2017).

Comments welcome.

And so the links/interests begin (not that they ever stop), i blame the agents (and firmly believe something should be done about them too).

Rodrigues is not what we need
He operates mainly as a left wing
He was looked at by Rafa when
the Kenedy loan was up in the air

I think agents are doing a job they are paid handsomely for, what I don’t agree with is that the club pays them , surely the money should come out of the players pockets for getting them the best contract available?

Agents are a necessary evil, sadly. But their fees are out of control.

Surely the clubs would want to reform a system which incentivizes the agents to agitate to secure a move for the players they represent every couple of years?

Why the major European Leagues haven’t got their heads together to tackle them is beyond me.

gimps, that’s my point, they get paid (at least) twice, once by the buying club as an advance fee, again by the player from his wage/appearance money/image rights etc. It’s crazy, not only is it pushing the money these guys are on to really silly levels but it’s also bleeding clubs (especially those below championship) dry.

Quite what that has to do with censorship is frankly beyond me.

Quite funny for a Mackem gag, to be fair.

Also another mention of Greggs – I think it was Average Contents mentioned last night Greggs was a rather odd stick the Mackems liked to beat us with, never noticed it before.

even with a 90m wage bill, surely 123M sky money, sales (Mitro 22M etc) and a 52000 home support (25M) would surely give us something to play with. where’s the money gone?

Rotonda, there was something in the fans forum minutes about Ashley taking some money to pay down some of the debt the club owes him.

I think this probably accounts for a good chunk of the TV money.

The question is not so much ‘ where’s the money gone ‘ as ‘ why didn’t we spend the sort of sums spent by the two newly promoted clubs, Fulham and Wolves,’ if Ashley, as he claims in his criteria for a buyer for the club, that there must be evidence of a desire to improve NUFC, presumably in terms of success and/or facilities.

Select well. Wingers like atsu and Murphy (man we overpaid) were definitely a step back. Obertan era.

And good job Rondon slimani we’re loan deals!

Our recruitment is more miss than hit these days and it’s not just the money.

Where’s the diamond in the rough, recruiter (whoever you are).

Thousands of teams around the world recruit better with smaller budgets. I’m really not sure if this NUFC would walk the Cypriot league 🙂

Jib do you really believe that the our wage bill was circa 100m in the championship? I’m far from convinced about this giving our highest earner by a long way was Shelvey on 3.5m per year.

Even if our 25 man squad was on an average of 30k per man (which I think is quite generous) the first team squad wage bill would be 39m. Is it possible for all other aspects of the club’s wages amounted to around 61m which is almost 50% more than the most expensive commodity that the club has in its first team squad?

This is obviously a very tough working out.

Our wage bill was nowhere near 100m when we went down!!!

It is said R. Madrid now have a policy of attempting to by the next Gallatico before they reach that status, as they can not afford to compete with PSG & Man.C. With Rafas connections I would hope there maybe an opportunity to loan an up and coming striker in January. If he hasn’t already thrown in the towel by then.

Talking of diamonds in the rough, Fernandez really surprised me. I thought he would have been cover as he is quite slow, but his reading of the game and composure more than make up for it, which surprised me, never thought much of him at Swansea. I think he is also taking some of the pressure from Lascelles with his leadership skills. He wasn’t an earth shattering signing in my opinion but he sure is proving to be a steal at 6m. Another football playing centre half, and in his prime for a centre half, glad to be proven wrong on him!

lindisfarne – here you go mate. Bit of a sideways nod at the debt we owe Ashley, but it’s quite clear.

“The amount owed to the owner was disclosed in last
accounts and the figure is currently less than that”

‘Currently less than that’ is obviously the key phrase – we’ve paid him back a chunk.

Full minutes are here if you want to read them
