Exclusive – Manager Lined Up To Replace Benitez If He Can’t Stop Slide

We should have expected this.

Reports are coming out that Newcastle are looking at Celtic and former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers to replace Rafa Benitez.

They say if Rafa cannot improve things at Newcastle soon, he could be out and Rodgers is one of the candidates to replace the world-class manager.

Rodgers is not a world-class manager.

The Mirror report is an exclusive and is just a little laughable.

What nonsense.

Brendan Rodgers of Celtic – nowhere near world-class

Here’s some of the Mirror report from Adrian Kajumba:

“It is their next three games – against Brighton, Southampton and Watford – that are now understood to be pivotal for Benitez and a better indicator of Newcastle’s prospects.”

“Newcastle’s poor start to the campaign has put Benitez under further scrutiny and their worrying form is becoming increasingly hard to ignore.”

There have been complaints from fans and others about how the press seem to misunderstand what’s going on at Newcastle.

This is another example of that.

We don’t rate Rodgers very highly but if Rafa leaves the club it will be a tragedy of immense proportions for both Newcastle and for owner Mike Ashley.

And there will be even more protests to get Ashley out of the club.

We don’t even want to think about it.

There seems no truth in the Mirror report – but we may have to replace Rafa in June if he decides to leave the club.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

We have to presume that good ‘ol Mike will come to the rescue and spend in January. If he does, and Rafa is still here it will be a total contradiction of the pathetic excuse dished out in the summer where it was claimed that Mikey doesn’t want to buy players for a manager that might not be here next season! Yet another lie to add to the long list of Mike Ashley lies!!!

This would be a great move, at least Rodgers’ teams play attractive attacking football.

Looks safe to post. Good posters on so little chance of catching the moron virus. 🙂
WTF can Rogers give us that Rafa can’t? We don’t play pub teams after all.
Maybe a bit harsh but it’s not the manager that’s the problem. Rafa’s a better tactician and that’s what we need considering Ashley once again failed to back Rafa.
I don’t know how people can’t see that in these days of massive amounts, of money being spent by other clubs, it’s no coincidence that those at the bottom are the three who failed to spend.
I know Spurs failed to spend but they’re higher up and can compete, but even they’re not playing as good as you might expect..
There’s no such thing as standing still in the PL. You either progress or you decline, depending on how you spend.
Our tenth place finish covered over some huge cracks that have now grown bigger because we failed to strengthen. It’s basic football nous.

Mick, please, he might with the teams he’s built. Even at Swansea he was allowed to buy decent players. Then Liverpool he had a great squad. Celtic are a different league to the rest, due to the magic ingredient – money.
We haven’t got the players to play attractive football.
We played great against a very nervous Manure team first half, but reality kicked in the second. Once they stepped up we couldn’t cope.
But then, nor should we be able to against that team. We’re simply not good enough.
I was at the Leicester team and I went through one to eleven and I doubt they’d swap one single player for ours. Leicester ffs. Not one. Maybe Dubravka might replace Schmiecal, but they’re happy with him so I doubt they would.
The Manure, game was great first half. Best we’ve played but we ran ourselves into the, ground doing so. Then they brought on a sub worth more than our entire eleven and the inevitable happened.
If we’d got that penalty and scored it we would’ve won, but we don’t do good luck.

    Bobbybee,
People are now going to throw Rafa joining in our faces when asking who the foot would want to come here. “Well Rafa did”
Never before has Ashleys hanging out a manager been so high profile, it is there for the footballing world to see. It is so evidently apparent that Ashley just wants a manager to fight his relegation battles. If Brendan Rodgers was so desperate to manage in the PL he’d put up with that then he’s not worth having. Eddie Howe, who Rafa finished higher than last year.
Why on earth would he want to come here for Ashley to make a fool of him and end up with 50K Geordies on his back.

Absolute joke of a link! Wouldn’t be ideal for either party. Rodgers getting constant champions league every year and making a name for himself in a country where its possible.
    Nothing on Rafa at all.
Bad performances are not the managers fault, it’s the quality in the team and strength in depth. If I had a pound for everytime I said this I’d be buying our club.
Next games will see points, I’m sure.

Jail, not one manager worth his salt will come here after seeing the way Ashley has treated Rafa. His CV is superb, yet he’s treated him like a mug. We’re a poison chalice under Ashley now. He’s finally cut his own throat by repeatedly lying to him and Rafa won’t hold back once he departs. He’ll say it like it is.
I get sick of hearing how negative he’s been at other clubs.
He may have been conservative after what Liverpool were used to, but I don’t remember watching them and thinking ‘boring’. And he did what others had failed to do in the PL era – won the CL.
Ditto Chelsea, where the fans treated him like crap. He still won them the Europe Cup. They weren’t boring under him. It’s a myth.
Give him the players he wants and he could attack more, but our forward players aren’t great. He’s forced into playing this way.
Perez. Still waiting. Ritchie. Works hard but lacks pace. Joselu. Works hard but lacks ability. Atsu. Struggling. Rondo. Injured. Kenedy, not played well.
Hopefully now Muto is getting up the PL pace we might see more attacking play with Kenedy starting to regain some form.
It’s still not good enough. You don’t improve signing three players for a total 19 million quid.

@ ShearMagic, “Bad performances are not the managers fault”. Can’t entirely agree with this, if, for example Pards had the same team as Rafa last full season and got relegated, surely that IS the manager’s fault?

Who the hell has started this shit ? It’s not Rafa’s fault and whoever started this should stop saying or suggesting it. The main part of the blame is with Fat Lad. Rafa was given sub standard tools to do the job in hand by the GREEDY COCK-ney and he has performed to the standard of the tools provided by Fatty.
Talk of someone waiting in the wings is a JOKE !!! And especially another yes man like Rogers. He only wants to get out as the Celtic job has gone sour with his pathetic record finally catching up with him. He should have stayed put before moving to Liverpool.
More bollocks is the last thing that the club needs now. Rafa is the BEST man for the job, Just back him you GREEDY git ! Have you not learned you lesson ? You should have been castrated at birth !

Genjikai, I’m 61 mate and for my sins been a regular for most of it. I will admit it has been worse than this, under McKeag when we nearly drifted out of existence, but he didn’t have the PL money – although he would have likely done the same as Ashley. Two peas in a pod. 🙂
I despair of some of our fans at times. We finally get a world class manager and Ashley repeatedly lies to him, leaving him scraping the barrel for players, yet they blame him ffs.
I don’t want him to, but if I was him I’d walk regardless of what Ashley spends in January. He’s only protecting his money if he does spend, not trying to achieve anything. He’ll spend just enough to keep us up then let him down again in the summer.

I would take Rodgers in a flash, although, I am well aware the chances of this happening are slim to none. I have always admired Rogers’ attacking/passing football. Ashley isn’t going to change, so it is a moot point arguing about who can do what without money–you get what you pay for, the rest is just squeezing what you can out of what you have.

Sometimes when you get an attacking manager take over from a defensive one, there is a transition phase where the 2 elements combine and you get a very good season. The previous manager’s defensive habits are still fresh in the mind of the defenders, and with a new attacking emphasis from a newly installed attacking manager, you can end up being strong at both ends of the pitch.

It has been a long time since a manager capable of playing a dominant passing & attacking game has been a Newcastle manager. I personally think the fans would take to Rodgers very quickly… in this most unlikely of scenarios that Rodgers came to Newcastle, of course.

    Hes trying to belittle Rafa.
Watching it from the outside is horrible, if Rafa had been backed for players he wanted and he failed fair enough call for his head like any other manager. But no one can say hes been given the fair crack of the whip.
Its embarrassing. Because its a poor refelction on us and tranishes us with the same brush.

    Ancient,
The fans would sharp turn on him as well if he proved to be an Ashley yes man and his second third and fourth choice players couldn’t pass the ball around as attractively as he’d like, just as the 2.2M Perez can’t and the 6.2M Atsu can’t either.
