Thanks to Newcastle Fans TV for this interview with Mick Lowes on their YouTube channel.
Mick talks about Newcastle’s current situation and whether he thinks Mike Ashley will sell the club anytime soon.
He also talks about the gaffer Rafa Benitez and whether he will stay on past next June at the club.
It’s very interesting viewing.

That table shows we certainly aren’t doing a good job
of using local talent at the moment.

Comment #46What happened to wanting to produce our own players and become the ‘Arsenal of the north’? Turns out the plan was, don’t invest in the academy, don’t invest in the facilities and then to top it off, scrap off the kids and youth system.

laschelles and darlow have been a success and bought in for not a lot of money and i had hoped we would bring in more like that
but we have had an endless supply of talented kids come through and not many make the grade
the way the club operates has not helped players develop they were often left on our bench due to the first team being short for various reasons

I can see one hole in your feeble argument
We currently arnt one of those teams, with an owner who wont spend
Could you cast the towering intellect towards the problem and find a way to build a team. When the owner wont spend, will sell at the drop of a hat and wont develop youth

Comment #58toon 22 you make the common mistake of poor debaters
of thinking when I make a comment on what is happening
in the world – I approve of it.
The old shoot the messenger syndrome.
for example
“Your saying its ok to cut costs but also said the big clubs buy youth”
Where the f@ck did I say I think it’s OK ?

Comment #63Cut the costs and abandon the academy, the cost of running it is minuscule compared with anything else at the club, it’s f u c k i n g madness cutting corners like this, not like signing Rondon with no pre season behind him, stupid c u n t s.

Comment #64Is the ditching of an U16 academy system really that big a deal? We’ve a rich tradition in the North East of developing talent through the local clubs – Wallsend Boys Club probably being the most famous.
Also, from the kids’ point of view, it would probably do them no harm from an educational perspective not to be distracted by NUFC in their pre-GCSE years, especially given the vast majority of U16 academy players may dream of Premier League glory but fall way short.
I would hope that the U16 coaches would be retained by NUFC, so in terms of cost-cutting there won’t be much impact, but they will be refocussed on coaching the local clubs’ coaches, doing skills workshops with the kids at the local clubs and scouting a wider base of players than those that impressed at the age of ten then concentrating on these alone.
I see why people are seizing on this as a stick to hit the regime, but if you consider it dispassionately, it may not actually be a bad call.

Comment #67I’ve been watching the debate over Rogers. Let’s prioritise – do everything we can to keep Rafa instead of rushing to replace him with a manager who may or may or may not be a better fit for the club. Nobody knows at this stage, it’s impossible to judge their relative merits.
My belief is that Rogers would be a less qualified, less successful manager with less experience of dealing with difficult owners, so realistically Rafa wins in most categories we can actually judge them both on.
However, if Rafa was to leave us at the end of the season, Brendan Rogers would be in my shortlist of managers to step in as a replacement.

Comment #72Some very interesting posts. Well done lads. Hats off to the research for the links about getting rid of the juniors as well. It sounds right up the Ashley street all right. Yes, how do we save more money Lee? Forget about the future because we won’t be part of it, you and me.

Comment #73toon22, I knew you and I would be on opposite sides of the page on this. That’s fine, but I’m not doing PR, just stating an opinion. I’d rather not be accused of being in Ashley’s pocket, if it’s all the same to you.
Think of it dispassionately and consider the points I’ve made, you may even agree with one or two of them. If not, that’s cool too. I’ll not call you out for having a different opinion to mine.
