Newcastle are reported to be interested in signing yet another winger – this time it’s West Brom’s speedy winger Oliver Burke.
But the 21-year-old is having trouble making the first team at the Championship club and has made only 4 appearances this season with one goal and one assist.
The news is that West Brom are willing to let Burke go in January as they want the funds to strengthen their team as manager Darren Moore tries to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
That would be a terrific achievement by the West Brom manager.
Burke played at Nottingham Forest before moving to German club Leipzig in the summer of 2016 where he played 25 times with one goal.
He was signed by West Brom one year later for a sizable £15M transfer fee.
Oliver Burke in action for West Brom last season
Maybe Rafa rates the player and could bring the best out of the 5 times capped Scottish International.
But a player who is not s first team starter for a Championship side doesn’t seem to be the kind of player we need at Newcastle.
Maybe Rafa is looking at what West Brom have as he could negotiate a permanent deal for Dwight Gayle in January?
That’s always possible.
But if Rafa wants Burke in a player exchange, we would need some money from the Baggies in addition to Burke.
It would still be a risky deal, and we’d like to see Dwight return to Newcastle next summer when he will be full of confidence from his exploits in the Championship.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Comment #2Should never have let Gayle leave. How many goals do you need to score in the Championship to be then classed as a premier league striker?
That’s the question, as everyone tells me he’s a Championship striker it’s absolute boxxocks.

Comment #3Scout just like all strikers they need confindence and a good run of games.
I dont think its a conincednce that gayle starter playing last year and we started turning up.
Other posters also have that view.
He adds pace up top to stretch teams which inturn allows others to come into the attack.
Hopefully muto can prpvise the same but bang in a few more goals.

According to Rafa it’s quite common place that owners spend time with the manager and players. The other 19 owners maybe don’t feel they have the need to pay a PR firm that they own to publicise their events, especially not on the same night that local MP’s are discussing how to get rid of them.

Comment #7Genjikai, “Stuff” made in the UK and other countries to the security forces is the best i can manage (not weapons).
The no plastic one is a growth industry, just starting that off, ethically sourced, biodegradable reusable (or single use and biodegradable), cutlery sets to takeaways is a big part of the business, straws to McDs etc.

Comment #11What the hell is Mr. Tubbs up to – with the recent appearances and meal in Ponteland.
One thing should be clear to anyone with half a brain is that he is at the early stages of some shenanigans of mischief.
History and his antecedents suggest he is no philanthropist – he likes to get one over on people.
Might be the sacking of Rafa – but who knows – time will tell.
Conversely, the pigeon brained and trainee vicars among us suggest it is the start of a love in – and there is no evil in the world.

I think you can apply the confidence theory to any player, Yedlin is a good example I reckon, think he needed a run of games to start hitting any sort of form.

On the hatred amongst toon fans..
I think this stems from the Keegan years..
Before he came as kids we’d turn up.5mins late just to get in for half price and in Newcastle it was still a working man’s game.. Not so much now and there’s a lot of middle class who go who don’t have the same passion or feelings for the club, for a lot it’s a badge of honour to flash their cash and the football doesn’t matter.
A lot of the true fans or people who see themselves as trues fans have been priced out of the game and will only attend sporadicly, when I used to attend regularly ive seen female fans with their husband/boyfriend sat reading a magazine and have no interest in the game, I’ve also saw males who aren’t that interested just sit in the bar and drink through the match whilst talking anything but football.
You could call it jealousy or something similar, I think it irks a section of fans as some who go don’t have any interest in the club or the football and believe those seats should be taken up by people who want to be there for football reasons instead of showing how much cash they have.

Comment #21Which PL club actually made a profit in the last Transfer window and has the lowest overall spend on new players?
Even under cutting Cardiff.
How many players are happy to see under investment in their squads, knowing that they are likely to finish lower in the league?
How does a quiet word from the owner fill a player with confidence when the teams highest goal scorer and senior player, is used as a make weight in a loan deal?
If any one ordered the Alphabeti-spagetti at the meal the club payed to take the owner out for, I hope they only received the letters ‘P’ & ‘R’, plus maybe ‘C’ & ‘A’.

Hate to add a sour note into the conversation but i don’t think that there is anything ethical about plastic in any form.
I seriously think that we have killed the planet and we are living on borrowed time which is going to affect our offspring more than us. Unless a viable way is found to clean it all up!
Just one example is the recent spillage from something that has deposited millions of plastic pellets intended for recycling onto the South Coast of the UK. Where they came from hasn’t been ascertained yet but the likelihood is that they going to somewhere to be turned into reusable items.
These pellets are going to remain in the sea and be taken up by the seas fauna.
Sorry for the downbeat lecture.

I’ve been buying different things from charity and other agencies that are trying to clean the plastic from oceans, the money goes to aiding more clean ups.
On the hemp cotton and flax seed, that’s not sustainable either. The biggest threat we face at the minute is the loss of fresh water, all the things you mention need water to grow. We’re wasting water at a scary rate, South Africa nearler hit day zero a couple of times this year, London amongst other major cities will hit day zero within 20 years meaning no fresh water will be pumped into homes and you’ll have to que in the streets to get it from government collection points.
Large hedge funds etc are buying any water source the can for future profiteering, that in itself should set alarm ringing. Liquid gold has never been said in a truer context.
We really have and continue to destroy this planet, we’re screwed. Future generations have no chance!

Comment #26EGB, exactly, nothing we sell has any plastic content at all, bamboo knives and forks replacing those hideous white forks from takeaways, hemp based paper straws, we even do proper bamboo straws for the Tiki bars here, they’re reusable and we even supply a small brush to clean the insides of them. However most of them are nicked, which is fine cos the bar orders more and the price is included in the drink.
Am thinking toothbrushes with hogs hair bristles but may have a problem with those here…

Comment #34Not Nufc related but whats the deal with Scottish national team? They actually have a very decent pool to pick from, players like Cairney, Ritchie, Robertson , Fraser are important players at their clubs, then to follow, players like McTominay, Burke, McBurnie, Hendry etc are very young with potential.. throw into that players like Matt Phillips, Tierney etc and they actually could put a decent side out.. not saying they would be world beaters but surely good enough to overcome teams like Israel?
Amazes me at international level more teams don’t employ better managers (england fall into this too)

Comment #35Interesting article in TalkSport today discussing the best eleven players for England v. Spain based entirely on their ratings by football statistics website WhoScored.com.
Jonjo Shelvey is included alongside Will Hughes and James Maddison in midfield. The website states that Jonjo is “a fine executor of passes which can switch the play but probably seen to take too many risky balls to be on the international stage. Shelvey’s put up some excellent numbers this season, though, averaging 2.6 key passes per game, and he might excel if they were going into the likes of Harry Kane.”
To save you looking it up, here is the whole team that the website came up with (in a 4-3-3 formation):
GK Joe Hart (Burnley)
RB Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Crystal Palace)
LB Ben Chilwell (Leicester City)
CB Harry Maguire (Leicester City)
CB James Tarkowski (Burnley)
CM Jonjo Shelvey (Newcastle United)
CM Will Hughes (Watford)
CM James Maddison (Leicester City
RF Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)
LF Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund)
ST Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur).
Gareth Southgate take note.

Comment #36Pain, I’d like to support your post and demand Jonjo’s immediate inclusion in the England senior team, using that as my only required justification.
Sadly though, that would mean I’d also have to support Joe Hart being recalled.
I can’t do that and you can’t make me….

Comment #37Looking at our present situation could this be the season that we have another relegation. Like most I hope things change around and we invest in January. But investing in January is no guarantee of survival, could this maybe be the first time in Prem history that two siblings get relegated in the same season in two different teams. Not sure that has ever happened before.
On another note and not wishing for this to happen, just say Rafa does leave.
A few years back Rodgers name was doing the rounds and if memory serves more than a few thought he would be a good manager for the club, yes I know he’s not Rafa but honestly if Rafa left due to not being able to get what he wants or Ashley sacking him, allthough most would think this the dumbest move ever by MA, and let’s be honest here, MA decision making has never been clued in.
Does anyone think now that Rodgers would be a good fit for the club, he is a no nonsense manager with the players and demands maximum effort, he isn’t scared to sit players who don’t perform, isn’t this what most fans want for the club? Just wondering, yes could and probably is total BS in the papers etc. But what if this scenario happened, with MA being less than predictable, it could.

Comment #38@scout – to be fair theres been a few that are lethal at that level and struggled to do it at premier level… vice versa aswell actually.. Championship defences tend to be less organised across the whole 24 team league and allow for alot more space! If a player has decent pace and movement he will get 3 chances a game to score in the championship, all with slightly longer time to think over the shot, In the premier league that can drop to1 half chance per game with just a split second to think. Many times when prolific championship strikers have played in premier league theyve struggled for double figures ie Rhodes, McCormack, Nugent etc
For me, Gayle has played 99 premier league games and scored 20 goals… (a stat made worse when you think hes scored a couple of hatricks so hes goals per game ratio is horrendous, its irrelevant that he is banging them in at championship level.. hes playing in one of the top 3 teams and getting alot of chances per game, over just under a 100 premier league games hes shown he can’t deliver

Comment #40Can we really see Ash spending in January…..We would have to be in a dire position and then who would want to risk signing for us if there is a risk of relegation.
Clauses in contracts that they must be sold if we go down and so the circle continues.
