Rafa Benitez and Newcastle United have equaled Steve McClaren’s dubious record of getting only 2 points out of our first 8 Premier League games.
And in the 9th game McClaren’s Newcastle won 6-2 at home against Norwich to lift the mood but as we know McClaren was hopeless and we were still relegated.
We are hoping we can beat Brighton at home on Saturday to get our first win of the season and hopefully take us out of the bottom three.
Rafa Benitez is a lot different and a lot better than Steve McClaren, so we do expect Rafa to have Newcastle safe and still in the Premier League come next summer.
Rafa Benitez – remains confident – doesn’ give any thought to disaster scenarios
The Mirror today are reporting that while most fans think we will start to win soon, what happens if we don’t win in the next three or four games?
But any talk of Rafa being fired is nonsense, and he remains our best chance of surviving again this season – as we did last season under his expert guidance.
Rafa has been the calming influence on Tyneside since he arrived and to even talk about not winning any of the next four games is like putting gasoline on the fire at Newcastle.
We have to remain positive and not over-think about a possible disaster scenario.
We know Rafa doesn’t that way.
We may not win on Saturday against Brighton but surely wins are on the way soon.
Let’s not talk too negatively until the next four games are over against weaker opposition and the subsequent International break comes along.
Maybe we’ll have four wins on the trot by then?
Creating potential disastrous news is not a helpful business to be in.
And it’s not even needed at Mike Ashley’s Newcastle – as we seem to lunge from one crisis to another.
Comments welcome.

All the articles I have read implicate Ashley by association, there’s no evidence that he’s actually involved.
Why would he be interested in a two-bit Scottish club when he gets all the attention he wants with NUFC?

Believe it or not toon22 is starting to grow on me! You gotta admit his “hiya Jib” comments are a bit funny! 😀

Comment #127His comments are funny…no doubt about it
My problem is……he stifles debate (which is the lifeblood of this blog)
Anybody, who doesn’t conform to his agenda is automatically cast as ‘shill’
Jib…….for all his faults is clearly not a shill (he maybe many other worse things 🙂 )
I just don’t link his repetitive nature……..

Comment #129Yep! And to Jib’s credit he does not let any of toon22’s accusations upset him! In fact he plays along talking about picking up his month “shill pay checks”!
Funny, early on toon22’s posts were soooo repetitious that I actually thought he was a “software bot”! 😉

Comment #131On a more serious note, this next match is a “must win” situation! I have no doubt we will win! Rafa is very good in getting the team up for critical matches, such as Southampton at home last season and both Brighton and Huddersfield on the road back to back the season before last!

Comment #133Your knowledge of financial matters is very valuable to the blog, NY Mag. I can’t wait to see how Ashley and Co, obfuscate the financial reports that will come out next spring re: the 2016/2017 season! I trust you will be on the case!

Comment #134You use an interesting word ‘obfuscate’…….
BTW,I’m not a financial accountant…..I just like to understand the financial position of a company (both personally and professionally)
However, I do believe (maybe naively) that what is in NUFC accounts are real – let’s face it….if they are any way false, someone is going to jail!!!!
I look forward to the next accounts as much as anyone, it’s the only way, we, as fans have any idea of the situation we are in

Comment #135Not knowing much about how corporations in England are audited, perhaps it is harder to hide earnings, understate asset values, overstate liabilities and so forth. Here in the USA corporations and wealthy citizens have a long history of “cooking the books”! Why a certain person high up in American political office has refused to reveal his tax records over the past few decades, even though it was previously a common convention that politicians always released their tax records when running for high office! 😉

You’re starting to sway into politics…….I don’t wanna go there
Of course you’re right, more money = more leniacy (means you employ good accountants)
But, there’s a difference between illegal and immoral
Our illustrious owner knows that down to a tee………….

Comment #140Llambias, Carr and Easdale – already a Morton sponsor – want to establish the Championship side as a feeder outfit for Newcastle and other English clubs.
Describing the visitors as ‘high calibre individuals’ Cappielow chairman Rae welcomed news of an interest in the club in a statement.
Looks like Ashley’s cronies interest in Morton is about acquiring their Academy ? Sounds dubious. If it does have any substance then has Ashley a cunning plan to do away with the NUFC academy and replace it with a remote club in the hope that it’s a cheap as chips option and sell off Benton for housing ? Crazy ? Conspiracy ? No, nothing is beyond his mindset.
From Morton : We can confirm that Derek Llambias and Graham Carr attended Cappielow with Sandy Easdale on Monday in order to watch our talented youngsters turn out for the reserves in their match against Queen of the South.’We have invested heavily in our youth academy and we can see that really beginning to bear fruit, something that is being recognised across Scottish football and beyond.

I don’t think Ashley can own both us and morton if morton make the Scottish top tear
I might be wrong but as I recall from the rangers deal he could only own 20% I might be wrong
For me one of the worries it looks like Carr is still one of Ashley side kicks could he be pulling the transfer string from the back ground

That worried me a great deal seeing GC surface yesterday. For the record I’ve always thought he spotted good players albeit for the wrong reasons. But to see him yesterday makes you think that he’s been in the picture all along in Ashleys plan to shaft Rafa.

Carr found us some gems but again when you look at who he wanted and was over ruled
He was as hampered as rafa looks like he was ok with it
Could it be carr that stopped rafa bringing in the loans from abroad he wanted in early
We got to be careful cos we don’t know for sure but it’s aworry

They’ve been getting transfer advice from somewhere in the last couple of years and GC is a good bet as to the one that’s been providing it. Despite providing some good players he largely overseen a policy that got us relegated and so many near misses.
