We suppose we shouldn’t be too surprised that a Chronicle report today has said Rafa Benitez has not been assured of significant funds being given to him in the transfer window in January.
After all, since Rafa arrived on March 11th of 2016, he hasn’t been supported financially by the owner.
The Mirror is also reporting why they think Rafa will walk next June when his contract runs out.
So it’s not particularly upbeat at Newcastle these days, and the Chronicle is reporting that Rafa is not expecting to be given much money to spend in January and is drawing up transfer plans accordingly.
It’s going to be a strange situation in January because last summer the news was that Ashley wouldn’t spend big money on players if he wasn’t assured that Rafa would be at the club long term.
Rafa Benitez – planning for low budget January window
And it’s almost certain Rafa will not have signed a new deal by January, and the same excuse can be made once again by the owner.
But the real truth is that Mike Ashley is not interested in building a top team at Newcastle just as long as we can survive in the Premier League.
So Rafa has told Head of Recruitment Steve Nickson, to look for bargain buys or loan deals that can be done to keep the cost down.
There will be a decision taken next month on the actual targets – either permanent or loan deals.
We expect Rafa to try to get his players in on loan, but that’s always difficult in a January transfer window, and he wants the players in early as he did last January.
But another low-budget transfer window may be another nail in Rafa’s coffin at Newcastle.
We will not blame the manager if he leaves next June but it will have been a massive opportunity lost by Mike Ashley and the Newcastle United club.
We never thought Mike Ashley would be this foolish with the way he has treated Rafa Benitez.
We just don’t understand this man.

Comment #8When and say again when rafa leaves this great club will go in to free fall dont no if we will do a scum in to leauge 1 but when we go down wish i hope does not happen but all the signs are there we’ll be down next time for a few years. The F.A should look in to where all of money is going but we all know this will not happy as they only look out for themselves .

Comment #10Last time NUFC had a big winter window was when Graham Carr found all those under priced contract buyout provisions in French contracts. In came Cabaye, Sissoko, etc..That plan worked only once as all the clubs rejigged those contract provisions. So until someone finds some way to sharp shoot contracts or another trick, NUFC will languish toward relegation.
