Newcastle have just announced the side for the important game against Brighton & Hove Albion this afternoon at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle fans have not been able to celebrate a win since we took Chelsea apart on May 13th, 3-0 at home in the final game of last season.
That win followed four successive defeats.
So let’s hope we can get all 3 points this afternoon to get our first points at St. James’ Park this season.
Chris Hughton – Brighton manager
As expected there’s just one change in the side with fit again Paul Dummett coming back into the side after recovering from injury.
He replaces Javier Manquillo who drops to the bench.

It’s interesting that Ki Sung-yueng doesn’t make the bench today with Isaac Hayden preferred.
This is what Rafa has said about today’s crucial game:
“The first win is always the most difficult. As soon as we win the first game, I think we will start having more confidence and it’ll be easier for us,”
“At the same time, we are playing at home, so our fans have something to prove – they have to prove that Bruno was wrong.”
“Bruno was talking about the fans, saying they will be on top of the players if they make mistakes, and things like that.”
“Our fans are very clever – they know that this team, they care. They work really hard.”
“The players know our strengths and they know our weaknesses, and one of our strengths is having our fans behind the team.”
“So, I think if the fans see something wrong, they will still be supporting the team.”
Almost seven in ten fans think we can will this game.
Let’ s hope they are right about that.

Newcastle United: Martin Dúbravka, DeAndre Yedlin, Federico Fernández, Jamaal Lascelles, Paul Dummett, Matt Ritchie, Mohamed Diamé, Jonjo Shelvey, Kenedy, Ayoze Pérez, Yoshinori Muto.
Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Javier Manquillo, Fabian Schär, Isaac Hayden, Jacob Murphy, Christian Atsu, Joselu.
Much as predicted by most of us.

Comment #8Hayden hasn’t looked to interested when he’s come on as a sub, rather see Longstaff on the bench.

Comment #9Good game between Dunston and Gatesheed, although the skill and strength of the higher placed team won the day.
Crowd of 2500 a club record apparently.
On second thought I suppose the pitch is probably near where the Fed Brewery used to be.
The Heed hoping to get Sunderland in the next round at home.

Comment #12I know Manquillo is crap however I read people say he had a good game vs man utd. If that was case shouldnt he have kept his place today. If you play well and get dropped anyway what does that tell you? Why try if you’re just back up and gonna get dropped as soon as 1st choice gets fit. This happened with Pardews team all too often with the “purple” players. If Manquillo played crap vs man utd I apologise ignore my post. I thought I read people say Manquillo was playing well that games thats all

So, all in all, you’ve nicely summarised Ashley as a psychopath who lacks any moral compass.
And according to the Fit and Proper rules, he’s considered fit to run a major football club – let alone a business employing thousands. Incredible but sadly, true.
What can be done about him? A few hundred volts across his temples or failing that, a frontal lobotomy might just do the trick

Comment #18We have more than enough to get 3 points. Will be a tough scrappy game 1 nil win for us.
If we don’t win this, we are really in huge huge trouble and rafa position must be analysed.

Comment #19Only a great manager can survive one win and 11 losses in 14 games. Six points out of 42. And he has to start being great today. Massive game. A defeat would have a bib bib impact on confidence and even Rafa might not come back from that. Two nil to Toon. A defeat does not bear thinking about.

Comment #21The right team i think. Dummett’s more defensive style should leave Kenedy free to do pretty much as he wishes.
Reckon Ritchie will have a good game today, Muto will bag another and Kenedy man of the match.
