What’s Happening With This Top Player At Newcastle?

Newcastle’s England U21 goalkeeper Freddie Woodman was not allowed to go out on loan in August.

The news was that the club wanted him to sign a new deal before they would let him go on loan.

It that’s true then Newcastle were willing to hinder his development to get Woodman to sign a new contract with his current deal running out in June 2020.

That doesn’t seem like the right way to try to keep your top young players on Tyneside.

And it’s not too surprising that some top clubs have been following the situation.

Arsenal, Fulham, and Celtic are said to be watching the situation and are keen on the young goalkeeper.

Freddie Woodman – Newcastle’s talented young goalkeeper

We expect Woodman to be loaned out in January, but it could be that some clubs could come in and try to buy the 21-year-old permanently.

That would be a poor deal for Newcastle as Woodman can still improve and he’s keen to become a top goalkeeper in England.

Woodman is keen to play and improve his game and said this recently:

“I’ve always said I enjoy playing football so whatever level it is, I am going to enjoy it.”

“I don’t have to play for the (Newcastle) U23s – I choose to play.”

“I just want to get the best out of a bad situation.”

The bad situation is he’s at Newcastle not playing much at all.

Freddie was still selected for the England U21 side during the recent International break so the England youth selectors still have great confidence in the lad.

We’re not sure what’s going on at Newcastle but we need to start treating the youngsters a lot better and not have them want to leave the club for opportunities elsewhere.

Woodman has 56 Youth caps for England including 6 at the U21 level.

Ed, these are quotes that have been recycled from a month ago, I feel sure.

It’s a non-story, Freddy’s part of the long-term plan for the club, we could well see one or both of Darlow and Elliott leaving the club this January, Freddy step up as number two with Nathan Harker stepping into the youth / reserve set-up.

Rafa kept him close with Longstaff, Sorensen and Sterry so he could have a good look at them to assess if they are ready for the 1st team.

There’s only one story at NUFC and it ain’t Freddy Woodman, and it ain’t Rafa. Does MA want to sell or does he not. I give you the two options:
A NUFC is costing MA millions but as a committed NUFC fan he is willing to stick it
B NUFC is loading £millions from TV etc into MA’s chubby hands: this he likes.

Make your mind up: does he want to sell?

We’re experiencing the culmination of 11 years of neglect and we just cannot sit back and allow this to happen. Enough is enough.

Agree Ed.. We do need to have some kind of pathway into the senior side from the young und. I will be mightily pished off if Woodman gets knicked from under our noses, and goes n to flourish somewhere else. Same with Cal Roberts.
I mean, it’s not as if our first team s brimming with immovable top quality players.
I’ve been in about this for years.. We need to be braver and give some of these guys a go. Starry was pretty good when he came in. Barlaser’s another..
    Sort it out Toon!

Aye, it does my head in! We fanny on with our lads, send them out on endless loans that lead nowhere, at clubs who only play them when it suits, and then out of position.. Other clubs give theirs a chance at some point. We never do!

With the benefit of hindsight (because of Newcastle United and Glasgow Rangers situation) any entity approached by Mike Ashley in the sporting world will now see him coming .

They will know he is coming to them with the intention of exploiting them , exploitation at its most extreme and a possible court case if it all goes sour, which is inevitable as every thing he touches in the sporting world he eventually Harms.

Alienates the support and destroys football clubs for his own horrendous greed .

Destroying what is in effect, In Glasgow and Newcastle , a religion .

Good to see Liverpool fans and Rangers Fans aligning with The Magpie group right now .

KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT LADS IT’S FOR THE GREATER GOOD .

    Set us free Ashley.

But the more you read about how much money is basically missing, the more I just think ashLIE is happy to be laughed at by other PL owners/fans and hated by us – he ain’t bothered as long as he makes money.
