Can Newcastle Make It Two Wins In A Row – Will Rafa Change The Side?

Rafa Benitez has said that things will be different once we got our first win of the season.

And we did that last Saturday at home against a very good Watford side.

The 3 points took us out of the bottom three which we’d been in for far too long.

Now we are hoping that we can win again against the Cherries on Saturday at St. James’ Park and move further up the table.

The opposition are in 6th place in the league so it will not be easy by any means.

Ki Sung-yueng – could start on Saturday

But if we can defend well and score some goals – maybe from set pieces – we must have a decent chance to get our second win of the season.

And there’s a long two-week International break so a win would be extra good on Saturday.

Rafa has some selection problems for a change, and we could see Perez, Schar, and Ki all start on Saturday.

With Ki able to deliver the free kicks he will likely start, and it could be Schar vs Lascelles for one of the center-back slots.

Either Muto if fit, or Perez will start alongside Solomon Rondon.

repost – missed the bus by ten minutes or more…

England squad is out. no surprises, but good to see Southgate still backing his young team including Jadon Sancho.

Here’s a question for debate – who will be the next current NUFC player to represent England?

I’ll say none of the current first-team squad who have been overlooked too often and for too long. I’m going leftfield and picking Shaun Longstaff, England still have a lack of good creative midfielders and Lobby could well make the grade if he keeps improving.

Someone on twitter posted this about the price of our team in the 2nd half v Watford, staggering compared to the price of the other teams in the league:

    Dubravka: (£4m)
    Yedlin: (£5.3m)
    Schär: (£3.6m)
    Fernandez: (£6m)
    Dummett: (Academy)
    Ritchie: (£11m)
    Diame: (£4.8m)
    Ki: (Free)
    Kenedy: (loan)
    Perez: (£1.8m)
    Rondon: (£2m loan)

    Total: (£38.5m) #NUFC

beermonkey, good question, I’ve said myself that Southgate prefers to pick from the squads that are coming up through the ranks at St George’s Park. There’s Freddie Woodman but the goalkeeper selection for England is fairly set in stone at the moment. Adam Wilson also, but he’s only 18.

Cal Roberts had a brief England youth career, but not been involved for a while.

Other than that, I’m not sure.

Talking of yoofs, Sorensen has been training with the 1st team today, according to the Chronicle. I wonder if he has a chance of being on the bench if Muto is injured?

Rob, would love to see Sorenson on the bench, ideal scenario we are 2 up and Rafa gives the kid 30 minutes up front to see how he handles it.
No point sending him out on loan in Jan, let’s give the kid a chance if we can he may surprise us. I remember Rooney getting his start against Arsenal and hitting one from 35/45 over Seaman and the rest is history.

Well I’m looking forward to this weekend (with fingers crossed). The past two Saturday’s we have been inviting people over to our pad and the two factors to coincide with the Toon picking up points is that I ignored the football until FT and Chuck (American airfield manager) was present.

So this weekend will be the same………..but include bulling parade shoes as well.

Nostro, agreed – we’ve had some good strikers come through the academy over the years who just couldn’t step up to the Prem – Chopra, Sammy Ameobi, Adam Armstrong for eg. Surely one has to make the step soon. Why not Sorensen?

Even if he doesn’t make it to the bench this time, Rafa has shown he’s aware of him, has seen what he’s been doing with the stiffs and wanted a closer look. That has to be encouragement for the lad.

if muto is injured i can see sorenson making the bench especially if we have some injuries

as for the kids playing for england i dont mind what southgate is is doing but i feel for shelvey in the last 30 mins of some matches we could really do with him
but bringing them through youth to the first team is the way to go

If Sorensen makes the bench he may get 10minutes if the score at that time allows to give him experience. Hopefully Rafa will think that Bournemouth pose little threat of damaging a player with aggressive defensive play which might not be the case with other clubs.

The Mitro brigade of last year have been proven correct. I’d just love to know how Rafa got it so wrong.

Ah, now I see why you’ve given up posting about football…. Suddenly everything is clear.

Don’t think we have anyone good enough for the national team in the current playing squad, Shelvey is a million miles away and it’s easy to see why, Jamal isn’t good enough with the ball at his feet so international football isn’t for him

I said the same thing a few days ago Our toon. He’ll be sacked after the Liverpool game.
I actually like him to be honest. He’s trying to play the exact same way as they did last season. It’s probably a bit naive but that’s the way he wants his teams to play football.

They’ll probably bring in Fat Sam, make things ugly and stay up.
