Newcastle Could Sign Long-Term Target For £5M In January

There are reports in Portugal that Newcastle United are monitoring Yacine Brahimi’s situation closely with a potential move being made in January to sign the 28-year-old Paris-born player.

The 39 times capped Algerian winger is a free agent next summer and Newcastle are interested in signing him, according to reports.

Porto could even be allowed to leave in January with West Ham and Everton also looking to pick up what seems like a bargain-buy.

Alternatively, Porto could keep the player until the summer, and a club could get him to sign a pre-contract agreement in January to be completed in the summer.

Yacine Brahimi – could be available for £5M in January

Because of his contract situation, the report suggests Porto could allow him to leave in January for just £5M.

But Newcastle will find it difficult to attract him unless out league position is much improved by January.

Brahimi moved to Porto four years ago from Granada, and he was born in Paris and played for all the French youth sides through the U21 level (8 appearances – one goal).

He is of Algerian descent and has played 39 times for the Algerian National side with 11 goals.

Brahimi plays as an attacking midfielder and a winger and is described as a technically gifted player.

Since he’s been at Porto, he’s played 181 times with 44 goals and 36 assists.

Newcastle have been interested in this player since 2012 by our records, and we were linked with him last January.

Winning the faires cup was akin to Leicester winning the league.
I think we were tenth to enter.

Yes please Mike, make it happen.

I think this guy would be awesome for us. I wanted him in the Summer, but his release clause was set at over £50M, I think.

To pick Brahimi up for £5M would be fantastic business and potentially solve the attacking midfield issue we have, although he plays mainly on the wing.

I imagine he’s going to have big wage demands, he’s turned down a couple of offers from Porto.

I’m 99% certain Frank Clarke was right footed and would guide attackers inside and onto his right side.

Being considered too old, he was freed and snapped up by Brian Clough go on and win a European Cup medal with Notts Forest. Too old?

You are quite correct, Frank Clarke was a right-footed left back.
