Alan Shearer’s High Praise For Two Goal Rondon – In Second Successive Newcastle Win

In the last two games, we have gained two wins and six points and we are now on 9 points from our 12 games played.

That’s a lot better than it was with 2 points from only 9 games played – we have taken 7 points from our last three games.

Geordie icon Alan Shearer liked what striker Salomon Rondon did today with two good goals – it looks like the team is starting to meld together – at last.

Rondon scored after 7 minutes and 40 minutes and Lerner pulled one back deep into first-half injury time and Newcastle held on well for another win.

Alan Shearer – great peformance from Rondon

Newcastle played really well and we could have had more goals but for some excellent goalkeeping from Asmir Begovic.

Newcastle goalscorer, Salomon Rondon: “We need this to be honest, this is the way we need to keep working and fighting. You can see the level tonight, so we need to keep playing like that to stay up.

i’m not sad enough to go trawling back through old posts. You said dropping shelvey and lascelles was daft when I had to point out they were injured and you stated not to get carrried away by one performance by their stand-ins. well that’s 2 performances now buddy. Just own it.

A fit Salomon Rondon is one dangerous player….What a performance!

Great win for the lads. Could’ve been 5 or 6-1 if it wasn’t for Asmir Begovic. Bournemouth played some very good football but Fernandez once again putting everything on the line a few times to deny them and not one of the lads pulled out of any challenges all game.

    Bring on Burnley!! Get in!

    Nicely tucked in 14th place!

The team without Shelvey is more of a team. Ki kept it simple but also played the forward pass. Always available. Diame did well too.

    They all fought hard.

MOM has to go to the goal scorer. Well done, and not only for the goals.

Great result from a decent performance. Thought we were flaky against the high ball from set pieces and we still give too many free kicks away round the box.

Not wanting to be negative, though – best performance of the season in attack, Rondon a beast, Kenedy getting back to form, Perez decent, Ritchie played well and Yedlin’s attacking play was very good.

Ki is a revelation in our midfield. He has the long ball and the vision to play it that Shlevey has, but he ties our defence to our attack and allows the transition from one to the other. If there’s a criticism it’s that he seems lightweight in the set piece defending, Rafa needs to look at that.

Will be interesting to see what rafa does when shelvey and lascelles are back. Don’t think you should change a winning team. Even if we wouldnt have won today the performance was good in terms of clear chances created. we shall see. I remember when pardew changed a winning team to bring coloccini back and that was wrong. Hope rafa isnt like that

It’s a great feeling, normally we say we are unlucky with injuries but last weeks injuries have been a blessing disguise. These fringe players weren’t getting a look in and not anywhere near enough time to make an impact but all that’s changed after the injuries.

Shows good mentality and more importantly fight, hunger and desire. All of what we need in a relegation battle season.

Seems like Shelvey slows our game down looking for the wonder pass. More energy today from the lads which was good to see. Perez and Diame somewhat guilty of giving the ball away or not making the passes but that’s nit picking.
    Rondon MOM
    Dubravka outstanding
    Kennedy forceful

Not sure 5 or 6-1 is a fair assessment. They too could’ve scored more.

Because we were just one ahead, the game could’ve turned at any time. I called them a wee club before the start, but they do have a good team.

But, overall, a deserved win and a heroic allround effort.

Our back four also deserve a mention. Not one of them should to be dropped.

Our Toon…I suspect Ki will keep his place but I hope it will be at the expense of Diame and not Shevey. Diame was sadly our weakest link again I think…

Richie was a bit ineffective, but truly a great performance from Rondon, Perez, Kenedy and Ki…

Not the best game by our defence…

Shlevey is hardly immense when it comes to defend g set pieces, from open play he’s normally blaming others for not doing his job of getting back!! I just hope he’s seen what Ki has done and that he implements it into his own game like he did when he first joined Swansea.

He’s got himself into this rut of dropping deep and looking for that amazing pass, in reality he has much more to his game

Tough now for Benitez, two prominent players in Lascelles and Shelvey basically the captain and vice captain, can they be dropped long term for Schar and Ki? Yedlins pace is a pleasure to watch, Dummets determination is legend material, Fernandez looks like hes been a staple Newcastle centre back for the last decade. Dubravka Is our best GK since Given and will unfortunately go for big money at the end of the season. Ritchie work horse with pace dribbling and determination. Diame is allowed the freedom to pay his game with Ki rather than covering for Shelvey. Ki very nimble and smart on the ball, marking could improve on set pieces. Kenedy is playing in form, ball for rondons second was awesome. Perez was a tricky att mdf but did tend to play the ball too much when a smple lay off would have got players in. Rondon, strong target man who will hoefully start racking the goals up evey week

manx, no Shelvey hate from me, just an appreciation of an extra element that Ki brings. Shelvey and Ki together could well work, in the right circumstances.

It’s not Shelvey hate, I just feel he’s got more to his game and he’s got comfortable playing a certain way. He’s still young but he should look to play 10 or 15 yards further forward.

In fact the more I think about it the more I’d like to see Shelvey as no10, it’ll get him higher up the pitch, he has a good eye for a pass and can shoot from distance.

Ki and Diame in midfield, Shelvey no10

Last season if Lascelles and Shelvey had been out, the team would have been significantly weakened. This season we’ve played our best two halves so far without them. When everyone is fit, Rafa will have some difficult choices and I cannot remember the last time this was the case. Still a tough time ahead though…it’ a very competitive league.

This week like a First World War Tank with a gun a engine and gears – big strong- immense
    Man of Match
Fernandez another who was immense with Kenedy and Ki
Only weak link down our right which teams exploit

It’s the whole hollywood pass thing as a negative that’s creeping in ( our 2 goals came from hollywood passes today btw) and that he shouldnt be getting a game now that ki has played well
For me he is still our best player and in a settled team or at least forward line he’ll be very important

Shelvey is a world class player in my opinion
But Ki has been more effective recently principally because he is more mobile and doesn’t always go for the champagne pass
For me shelvey is still a better choice if fit

He’d be better playing higher up the pitch, the issue is he drops to deep and that then limits options for passing to midfield.

You just have to look at the cohesion in the 1 and a half games he’s missed, we’ve looked a better team as we’ve played as a team and passed from the back, into midfield and that’s helped us move up the pitch together as a unit rather than isolated

He plays all over its just sometimes he comes deep to get the ball and people dwell on it especially if we aint winning he plays alot of first time passes aswell but supposedly he slows the whole team down hes an all rounder if ever ive seen one lol
People are still forgetting all the top teams we’ve played this season so far and how defensive we have obviously been set up
