Newcastle Defender – Football Moves Fast – We Move On

Newcastle’s Swiss International center-back Fabian Schar has come in from the cold in the last four games in which Newcastle have amassed a very decent 9 points.

But after three successive wins, we were a bit sloppy in defense and in attack on Saturday and lost 3-0 to West Ham.

The good thing is that we have a game – a tough game – coming up on Wednesday night against an in-form Everton side, where our players have a chance to make amends.

Fabian Schar – hopes to make amends at Goodison Park on Wednesday

This is what 26-year-old Fabian Schar has told the Chronicle:

“We didn’t start too badly against West Ham.”

“The first half was OK but we conceded the first goal and tried to get back in the game.”

“We had some good chances to score.” “But in the second half they doubled their lead and it was very difficult for us.”

“It wasn’t our best game. We wanted to keep up our winning run in front of our fans and had such a good month.”

“It is disappointing but we will try to forget it and move on to the next one.”

“We have another game on Wednesday and we have to keep moving forward.”

“Football moves fast and we have good weeks behind us. Now we move on.”

“There is disappointment for the fans.”

“Maybe the way we played sometimes we expect more and we will try to get back to our other games.”

Fabian could turn into an excellent acquisition for Rafa Benitez, because he’s an intelligent and very experienced defender.

He also offers Newcastle an attacking option when he brings the ball quickly out of defense.

With Jamaal Lascelles now fully fit it will be interesting to see what the back four turns out to be for the Everton game.

From a previous article, Dubravka is better than Szczesny anyway.

It’s quite clear that the defeat at the weekend has hurt the players – but I think in a good way. Someone mentioned it may be just the spur they need to stop them believing their own hype, get their feet back on the ground and get back to playing the game the way Rafa wants them to – basics first. That could be true.

I think we’ll see a big improvement on Wednesday, but again the first goal will be critical.

As to the team, whether formation or personnel that’s anyone’s guess at this point.

Like others have said I’ve a feeling Lascelles will return to the defense at the expense of Schar. Although I’m not that keen on Manquillo he actually had an OK game on Saturday especially going forward although to be fair most of West Ham’s attacks were coming down the other wing. So not sure what Rafa will do against Everton for LB, of course he may go ultra defensive and go back to 5 at the back and as no Richie then Kenedy would have to play left wing back.

Is Dummet still not fit for Wednesday night? To be fair, regardless, Everton will be a tough game for us. I will be happy if we bring a point home from that one. Outside of the top 6, Everton are definitely the ‘Best of the Rest’.

RobLeenio @2 – I think you’re right but still a big ask to get anything away at Everton when you look at their team and they’ll be hurting after the derby game! Mind you a good tactic might be to lob high balls towards Pickford’s goal 😀

Manqillo would be good at left wing back if we played 3 at the back. He was indeed pretty impressive going forward against West Ham

    …………………..Dubravka.
    Yedlin Schar Fernandez Clark Manqillo
    ……………….Shelvey..KiSy
    …..Perez…………………Kenedy..
    …………………..Rondon.

That looks like a decent football team to me.

Have seen the full match in replay on footballorigin and the highlights on MoTD. I thought we were ok, and good going forward, the difference being they took their chances and we didn’t. Manqillo in the flat back four left his two centre-backs exposed too often though, as did Yedlin. They would both seem more suited as wing backs with 3 centre backs. With no Dummett or Ritchie against Everton, it might be on.

I know shar got done for that last goal but I think 42M Anderson would have done that to any number of players.
i think shar has done ok and has let us play from the back which sadly Lascelles can’t really do.

Yeah, I think Schar plays the ball out really well from the back. I want us to continue to try to take the game to the opposition, but its tricky for us to do that with a flat back four and holding mid like Diame. 3 at the back is solid, and the wing-backs are a good attacking outlet, but they do need to get up and back. It’s hard work for them, but you do have that extra man in cover behind.

Nicky – The more I think about it I agree I think Rafa will go 3 at the back with wing-backs but I think he’ll probably bring back Lascelles which will probably be tough on Schar or Clarke! With Richie missing I think Kenedy is favourite for left WB possibly bringing back Muto?

    Ok lets recap possible scenarios

Option 1 – Jib regularly replies to Jail yet this one time autocorrect changes it to his own monicker? That would suggest autocorrect is quite used to him using his own monicker as an opening. Hmmm.

Option 2 – Jib forgets he is typing “Jail” this one time and mistakenly goes ahead and types his own. In this instance autocorrect fails to Suggest “Jail”. Hmmm2

Option 3 – Jib was actually posting a retort from another “regular poster” to interact with himself. Ah.

So in conclusion – who is this other “regular poster” you contribute as? Naughty multiple jib. 🙁

Schar must keep playing and I think he will. Manquillo must defend better. It will probably be five in back, with 29% possession, but what to do.

Rafa and the rest of us would take a 0-0.

I’d play Clark. He can defend and score.

He he it gets even more intriguing if you’re into conspiracy theories – jib throws a URL into his post without the usual hotlink – why? Because it has a title containing a rumour about our manager eyeing another job. Yet he doesn’t feature anywhere in the article. The dual mischief of our very own jib (or jibs) and sky, Ashley’s fireside buddies ha ha
