These Were Newcastle’s Three Best Players In 1-1 Draw At Everton

Newcastle were a little dodgy in defense in the game against West Ham at home on Saturday in the second half.

It ended up to be a surprise 3-0 defeat after we had won three games in a row.

But the defense was back in form last night at Goodison Park and showed grit, guts, and courage to limit the Toffees to a single goal in the hard-won point and a 1-1 draw.

Martin Dubravka continued his excellent form in goal for Newcastle this year and was our Man of the Match with 44% of the vote.

Martin Dubravka – Man of the Match – another brilliant display

With Juventus said to be after him, Rafa may want to give him a new improved contract given how important player has been this year at Newcastle – he deserves it too.

The current two starting center-backs Fernandez and Schar were second and third respectively in the voting – and they have proven to be excellent together in central defense.

But Swiss International Schar picked up his fifth yellow card of the season so he will get a one-match ban and will, therefore, miss the home game against Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

It was an excellent result for us last night, and now 3 points is exactly what we need on Sunday afternoon against Wolves at home.

A win will help us climb the league table although not with the next game because we are now a full 5 points behind the club just above us in the league – West Ham.

Here’s where we stand after the midweek games.

That tweet from Shearer about Groundhog day
is days old – he probably regrets it now and won’t
be happy with Mark Douglas for dredging it back up

    jib
why would shearer regret that tweet ❓
why would he be happy with Mark Douglas ❓
and how can you say it with such certainty that he regrets it ❓

A great result last night with our defence being back to its well organised self,
On the take over rumours, it would be interesting to see how many Nufc fans think it will happen this time round.
Do any of the bloggers fancy running a poll ?
I for one don,t think a take over will happen for obvious reasons.

“it would be interesting to see how many Nufc fans think it will happen this time round.”

my guess is it won’t happen because it sounds as if there is still much to do in which case there is plenty of opportunity for things still to go wrong. also i don’t think Ashley would have said anything if it was a done deal but benefits from announcing if it is still at an earlyish stage because it deflects criticism and raises hopes which is exactly what seems to have happened.

    almiron is fast
but i dont see much evidence of close control or an eye for a pass from his video clips
he seems better suited to the wings than the number 10 role
we have too many wingers already imho we need a classic number 10
that being said, in Rafa i trust

Almiron can also play on the wings wouldn’t surprise me if he is brought in to be a Richie upgrade similar to how Rafa wanted Townsend in the summer

Kagawa is available from Dortmund In January
Could be worth a punt as a no 10 !!

Yes please kagawa. Think he’s quality but hasn’t had any time this season for Dortmund. Experienced too which would go far for us in our side.

Ive never seen almiron play and can only go by clips on YouTube. Do think his weakness would be strength and aerially. Don’t see him as a winger though and perhaps not a classic 10.

His best moves tend to come from breaking from deep leading counters. Got pace, skill and seems to be able to pick a man out. Good shooting and looks a good fit for a team that relies on defence and counters. Know a team?

Definitely looks like someone worth a gamble. But never going to be a gamble under our illustrious owner.

I might be completely wrong about Almiron but…
    – He looks lightweight
    – He looks similar to Thauvin, Cabella and even Amilfitano (remember him). Some nice skills but unable to adapt to the physically of the EPL and the lack of space given to forward players
    – In MLS you get bags more space and time than the EPL. Has he proven himself in a more competitive league? No

If his purchase is somehow linked to our club purchase then that’s fine = pay £50m if necessary. If not, then it seems like a massive risk.
    On Kawaga – yes please

You can still speculate on players, who you like, who you don’t etc, why they’d work out, why they won’t etc. Doesn’t mean we are going to say or think Ashley is going to give Rafa cash to spend. Part of the fun of discussing football imo.

FWIW – Am told there is no way Atlanta would ever do a loan deal with Miguel Almirón. Source wouldn’t comment on specific teams, but loan deal and lower sale numbers are not accurate.
No deal struck between parties for the services of Miguel Amiron ,And the takeover news is falling apart

Nice shout. Talented player and I think klopps been after him for ages, even back in Dortmund i think. Good with opposition players around him. If we are linked with almiron supposedly valued at 20-25m, he’s not far fetched either.

The same day he gets a bit of shit in London, he gives an impromptu interview about a possible takeover, I just can’t help thinking that it’s just another way to wind us up and divert any attention away from what was talked about in the commons that day.

If no chance of a takeover, if the fat man is doing our legs again – then why has Kenyon not said something.

He is held with respect within football yet the latest rumours are he is now in the ‘Data Room ‘ but if this is not accurate and he has allowed this to be reported – he will lose all respect.

Not having this ‘ It puts him back in the news ‘ bit either, friends with ashLIE or not.
