Paul Merson picked Newcastle to win last week in what is rare for the Sky Sports pundit.
That could have been the kiss of death for us becasue we didn’t play well and ended up losing 3-0 to the Hammers which is our worst defeat of the season.
The former Arsenal attacking midfielder has backed off a bit this week and only takes Newcastle to draw the home game against Wolves tomorrow.
Wolves beat Chelsea 2-1 at home last weekend after losing to Huddersfield and Fulham in the previous two games.
Paul Merson – thinks Newcastle will draw
So the newly promoted club should be confident, and it will be a good test for our lads.
Here’s what Paul has said to Sky Sports about the game:
“This is a hard game to call.”
“Newcastle were slaughtered at home by West Ham but then they go to Everton, who were very unlucky against Liverpool, and get a draw.”
“It’s the same for Wolves. They could not win a game for toffee but then they go and get a great result after being a goal down to beat Chelsea.”
“It’s so hard to predict and that’s why everybody loves the Premier League.”
“I think this will be a very entertaining game. “
“Newcastle must come out and try to win and Wolves play like that anyway, so I think there will be goals.”
Prediction: 2-2
If it does finish 2-2 Rafa will not be too happy at conceding two goals.
We have to keep it very tight and hope we can score one or two goals from somewhere.
But the wingers will be important tomorrow and they have to get those crosses in with Salomon Rondon showing he can score goals if he gets the service.
We are hoping very much that we can win this game tomorrow.

Comment #87To be honest I’d have preferred to get them in the Northern section final where a defeat for them would be even more satisfying for us.
Wonder if it’ll be televised?

Comment #88Genjikai, if they win and gloat just laugh at them mate. The more they gloat , the more you laugh. They should win. They had £40 million parachute payment to help get out Division One and they should walk it – but they still ain’t top. That’s sad enough. 🙂
Our bairns will be fired up anyway. Nothing at all to lose, everything to win. Seriously, can you imagine losing to a team of kids? 🙂 It’s unbelievable really that we got this far. Most other U21 teams are out already. Just bring it on mate.

We’ll probably have to drop a league or two to see the fan support really drop but if he doesn’t go and continues as he has in the past then dropping down the leagues is a real possibility, especially if Rafa becomes so disenchanted that he does leave.

I’m envious mate, I have to make do with trout and no custard 😉
Casting my memory back into blog pre-history I recall Gladys Mills being mentioned as someone who had custard one everything, especially chips.

Comment #96Hate to piss on folks chips
The last derby in the Checkatrade
was Stoke vs Port Vale and the
Stoke morons trashed Port Vale’s
ground – the mackems will see
a weakly stewarded fixture as an
excuse to cause mayhem.

I’m a mint sauce man as well; on chicken, beef, lamb, anything. I think it may be a Geordie thing but not sure!
