Newcastle did well yesterday in getting the 1-1 draw at Watford but we really need wins to take us clear of the relegation zone.
That’s especially true with the games in January and early February looking very difficult against four top six clubs.
Rafa was pleased with the performance, but of course, we were so close to an excellent win but for a defensive lapse after 82 minutes that allowed Walford to equalize.
It seems Rafa will not talk about the transfer window coming up – maybe because it seems such a shambles – at least from the outside looking in.
Rafa Benitez – on the touchline at Vicarage Road yesterday
The gaffer was asked in the Chronicle if he had plans to meet with Ashley and this is how he answered:
“I won’t talk about the transfer window or January, but I’ll talk about the game.”
“The way that the team was performing here is the way we can get the miracle done.”
“When you talk about this league, with teams that are so strong, sometimes it can happen.”
“But for us every point is important. So to go here and to get a point cannot be negative, it has to be positive.”
“Could it be even better? Yes.”
“But I will take it as a positive.”
While we got 9 points from our three games in November, we have 6 points from our 7 games in December.
One win at Huddersfield and three draws against Everton, Fulham, and Watford – and three defeats against West Ham, Wolves, and Liverpool.
But hat’s 15 points from the last 10 games.
The truth is if we can keep up that average for the rest of the season we should escape relegation with 45 points.
🙂

How bloody predictable, a half decent result and it’s well done Rafa. If they’d sneaked a winner it would have been because we sat back and should have attacked more, our tiny handed managers credentials as a top flight manager need to be looked at, all the clever posters know that.
Fair and balanced my ar$e.

Comment #3Could be all smoke and mirrors – not really a cue for despair simply because the chip wrappers need to sell print and would love to make us out to be mugs. Maybe Mike’s PR boys are chucking flashbangs out prior to the deal being announced you never know. We will only know end of January i think. Unless Mike himself comes out and flat out admits it.

Comment #4It looks like we will get relegated now as Ashley will not give any money for new players.
Cannot see us winning at home for a while and a draw against Cardiff is the best we can hope for.
Rafa will have to sell before he can bring in anyone.
