Yes we know it’s like a yo-yo – we have a positive report on the potential Newcastle takeover one day and then a negative one, so we are all suffering from whiplash with the takeover.
Today we have an upbeat report after a letter sent by Peter Kenyon to Ashley before the Christmas holidays has been leaked to the press.
It suggests the potential deal is at an advanced stage and could even reach a conclusion soon, and that Ashley prefers Kenyon’s group as the best fit for Newcastle ownership.
The Sun are reporting on the contents of the letter – probably leaked by Ashley to show the takeover deal is real.
Newcastle owner Mike Ashley – Kenyon deal reported at an advanced stage
This is what is in the letter:
“I know I speak for both of us in that we continue to share a serious determination to finalize the agreement we have to suit both parties as soon as possible in the new year.”
“We have both spent many months discussing the parameters of a final deal and as you know we have also invested heavily in time and money on our various legal and financial advisors.”
“I appreciate the time and effort committed to the detailed discussions by your advisors, lawyers, club, and, of course, yourself.”
“I fully respect your desire to ensure the next owners of Newcastle United understand the club, football, and have the appropriate financial resources.”
“And I am delighted that you think the investor group led by myself is the best fit.”
“On my side, I would like to personally assure you that I am committed to conclude our deal as soon as possible.”
“And, while we are both perhaps frustrated that we have not progressed as quickly as we would have wished, I would like to express personal gratitude for your patience and integrity in this matter.”
“And hope we can continue our discussions in the same spirit.”
Exclusivity has still not been granted to Kenyon’s group yet which means a deal has not been agreed in principle.
That will be the next step if the deal continues towards completion – Kenyon’s group will be given time to complete the deal without any interference from any one of the other three consortia.
Comments welcome.

Comment #12Like I said last night surely if talks are at an advanced stage then they would have a direct line of communication better than a letter!
Micky good spot no self respecting Brit would write finalize!

Comment #20SERIOUSLY!!??? How much is MA paying Kenyon for this? Sorry, too many false dawns, I just don’t buy it. Everything feels like this time last year, staged in order to give the fans hope we might be rid of MA DURING a transfer window so he doesn’t have to spend anything. I hope I’m proved wrong and he’ll be gone before long but at this point I just don’t buy it.

Comment #26Must have been his annual Christmas letter tucked inside the Christmas card along with a £5 Woolworths voucher to “get yourself some pick and mix”, love Uncle Peter x
That apart a confidential letter relating to a corporate deal is leaked ? If it’s by an employee then that’s instant dismissal but no one has left the building ? Where’s Charnley ?
Ergo if there is a letter then Ashley has arranged the leak which is a joke.
Last year Staveleys involvement was the crime of the century. Now it’s best practice ?
This has Azhleys fingerprints all over it. Or Bizhops as he’s told what to do.

Comment #27The letter points towards a massive impasse on the valuation of the club and continuing to attempt a compromise on the final price. Just how far will Turdboat go to make up the shortfall, 10 years of merchandising and free advertising???

I agree with you, sending a letter just doesn’t seem like the method of communication where negotiations are at an advanced stage or any stage.
In fact, the contents feels more like a verbal conversation the buyer would have with the seller.
Surely the negotiations are being conducted by their respective legal teams, and not Kenyon and Ashley.
Also, where does the NDA fit into the letter.

Just renew your season tickets bro, we are about to be sold. Honest.
Ignore the open letter, ignore the flag incident, ignore the transfer window and ignore Rafa situation.

Comment #35If I was rafa now I’d get Carroll. Surely he’d be available for about 5 to 10 million max given his injuries. I still think he’d offer us far more than he offers West ham.
I’d also try for gabbiadini from Southampton again should be cheap.
I’d look for pace outside of that in a left winger the lad from Germany sounds a good option.
Also I’d get a number 10, I’d buy Loftus cheek.
Diego laxalt however you spell it for a left back option.
I’d replace Hayden as well.
However I can see us signing absolutely nobody under Ashley.

I think your assessment is spot on, I think the Kenyon group want the deal done asap so they can protect their investment. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Kenyon have already contacted players agents in anticipation to purchase players in the Jan window, if a takeover is agreed, the Kenyon group may have to give Ashley a wish list and just reimburse him when the takeover is complete. I can’t see the Kenyon group risking seeing the season out on a wing and a prayer.

Comment #39Not only is it reeking of BS, but if Kenyon had anything to do with this, he has got himself off to the worst possible start with NUFC fans before any bid(?) is even on the table.
Were he to get control of the club, there will be no more respect for the loyalty or intelligence of fans than there is under Mashley.

Re “finalise”
I wouldn’t take too much notice as the transcript has been reproduced. Could be Kenyon was in the US when the letter was written, or just a US spellcheck.
If Kenyon’s name is quoted he surely wouldn’t allow it published without comments if no truth in it!
Ashley will still have to spend in the window whatever!
